juckto
I wanted to get some feedback from players on the pros/cons of using Chaos Marines with Mark of Nurgle vs using Plague Marines; and pros/cons of using Chaos Marines with Mark of Tzeentch vs using Thousand Sons. Why? I have a few LotD models that I've been meaning to bulk up to a proper size force and I figure that either a Tough army or an Invulnerable army would do a decent job of representing them ruleswise. I will be doing a "pure" army because all the models will be painted in LotD colours. Don't bother recommending I do loyalists and take 3 Elites of LotD. They're not a good unit and I'm not changing to damned loyalists for a :P unit. eyescrossed
I'd say Thousand Sons or Plague Marines. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161701-legion-of-the-damned/#findComment-1899440 Share on other sites
Roultox
Well two problems. Icons can be taken out and your marines feel as mariney as the next loyalist. So a specialist will have to do for you. (I would even suggest using NECRON rules, special 'guns' and special 'durability' included) But that probly isnt what you aim for. Legion of the Damned is generalised around spectres (specters) being ghostly, and deep strikey. Too bad the deep strike thing cant be represented better. But you can represent their ghostly selves with inv save and feel no pain. They arent known for shrugging off more small arms fire then the next marine (toughness5) so going with Thousand Sons may be it, but you will miss out the meltaguns and other rifles you have. So.... Lets see.... If you went with icons, all those devistators, elite marines and so on, plus leadership can be represented.... Hmm... Grey Knights~.... They have a ghostly-shrouding rule. Good melee and good shooting, and pack specialists everywhere for your special weapons. Also a decent idea. Well, you have quite the dillema properly representing them as a solitary force without homegrown/other rules(LOTD apoc datasheet). Since ALL the official rules are out for the legion of the damned, maybe you could just request that you use the old Lost and the Damned marines rules in the old Chapter Approved Annual 2004 book.' Oooooooh wait, They get a 6+ inv save and deep strike right? Try Black Templars using the Inv save vow, and burst in with transports.. Or go with chaos. Just ideas to muster with, in case you want to experiment. GunnarRedsun
honsetly, in my opinion, plague marines. then they are toughness 5 and feel no pain. in the current marine codex they have a 3+ invul and deep strike. well as far as deep striking and using chaos, you are s.o.l., but i think the plague marines will best suit the survivability aspect. also, the mark of nurgle will be quite helpful on the other units in the army as far as not taking as many hits. i dunno though, its just my opinion Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161701-legion-of-the-damned/#findComment-1900228 Share on other sites
chillin
I would go w PM...TS's can't have spec weops and hve to have a sorc, neither of which make for a very good LotD count as. the Tz and Nurg icons are just too pricey for what they can do.
