Why should i go Space wolves

Hey guys. After playing fantasy for a few years, I decided it was time to get back into the game and join the fight in the 40k universe. After selling my old BT army and looking around, I've narrowed my choices down to either the Blood Angels or the Space Wolves. I like the both armies a lot, but I'm still not to sure on what I want to do. So, why should I go space wolves over the blood angels?

Space Wolves are vikings in space.

'Nuff said.

But seriously, there is no definitive reason to choose one army over another. Every army plays differently and has it's own color scheme and background. Take a look at both the Blood Angels and Space Wolves, and ask yourself:

Do I like their color scheme? Can I see myself painting 30-40+ models in this color scheme?

What about their background? Is it interesting/appealing to me or do I just gloss over it and get bored?

How does the army play? Can I see myself still playing this army a a month from now? 6 months? A year? Longer?

PS. Vikings.

In space.

BLood Angels? "Oh, me so pretty! Me go chop chop. Furioso, me use neat words because me so pretty!"

Space Wolves? Well, name one army that is as cool that is nice to people, has a reputation of drinking, and has been described as "clinically insane."

Oh, and Vikings...

In Space.

Vikings in space. All you will ever need to know.

Actually, tactically speaking, the wolves are much more diverse. We have better options for our IC and Wolf Guard (bodyguards and pack leaders) than any army out there. We can drop pod, go mech, or footslog with great success. Our troops can be geared for any of those tactics much better than a regular marine. Our Grey Hunters are far superior to regular tac squads. Of course, this might all change with the new codex that is supposed to come out this year. Anyway, Space Wolf fluff is some of the best that GW has to offer. The models are pretty cool. We have a very loose color scheme (as long as you have some kind of grey you are good to go). Our models don't require, but lend themselves to conversions. I love the Wolves.

By the way, has anyone mentioned that they are vikings in space?

why shoudl we convice you?

you'd better try to convince us that your worthy of joining the space wolves!

it may sound a bit harsh but it's true, either you're a wolf or you're not, it's actually that simple:)

i suggest you do a quick searchy about this subject because we've had lots of topics handling this exact choice and i'll think they clear up a lot

if you do decide to walk the ways of the wolf, make sure you bring enough ale for us :D

hendrik has it right, you should say what you like about SW, we can't make you play them, if you don't "like" them over another army... i can always count on him beating be to saying it.

but if that seems weird to you try searching there are few that show up:

Like this and this

They aren't just Vikings in Space. They're Werewolfvikings in Space!

If you are a closecombat oriented player who looks for a colourful and stylish army, i'd say go for it.

You should try starting with tracking down the Codex. If you happen to be german ( i suppose not, judging from your nickname) i could be of assistance. Don't just buy models that strike your fancy like me, i can now field a Greatcompanys worth of Wolves. (which need not be a bad thing :D) Speaking of Blood Claws 15 are more than enough for a start, but your first Pack should consist of Grey Hunters.

Remember there a two kinds of forces in the Imperium: Space Wolves and support.

I'm in it for the great fluff, the ability to field wolves alongside my characters, oh, and the ale!

To add to the above:

-Leman Russ ate and drank the Emperor under the table.

-Space Wolves have the balls to tell the Inquisition to leave, and they did nothing about it.

-I'm surprised no one has mentioned that they are Space Vikings yet...

-Huzzah

I tell ya! These young aspirants come waddling in here asking why they should join us!! I tell ya, it's the sign of the wolf time!

Listen, young whelp, we do the hiring - now fetch us an ale and maybe we'll let you join the fang!!

:D

I have to agree with whats been said.

Its like picking a dog. You dont choose it. It chooses YOU.

Space wolves are the same. Your either a wolf or not. If you are then there will be no escpae. No other army will give you the same feeling as the wolves.

I Have been in the hobby since i was little. Despite a long break. I was a wolf when i left and a wolf when i returned.

Failing that.

YOU EAT.

YOU DRINK

YOU PARTY

YOU FIGHT.

all at the same time! whats not to love.

Tactically. Blood claws fit in well if your all out offensive. But you will still need some grey hunters. Grey hunters are better all round. Being able to both dish out the pain on a charge. Or equally well receive the charge. A good starting place if you want both and with you name would surely be a Razorback born squad of greys, and a land raider crusader with 15 frothing claws and a leader thrown in aswell.

Disregard all these blunt replies, good man. the answer is a question.

Do you want to play with space viking werewolves, or do you want to play with space vampires?

The thing to consider between the two is that there is not too much difference. Space wolves have the Leman Russ Exterminator, BA gets the Baal Predator. Space Wolves have rock hard infantry and leaders, as do Blood Angels. Blood Angels have the Death Company, we have the Wulfen. Both armies are known and renowned for their ferocious close combat abilities.

Not too much difference, except that the Blood Angels didn't stop thinking highly of jump packs.

If all else fails for you, there's always eenie-meenie-meiny-mo.

Can't tell you why you should play them, but I can tell you why I love them.

1. Stubborn, very stubborn, they follow their own way. (very much like myself)

2. I love werewolves

3. I love real wolves

4. I love techno centric barbarians

5. The SW fluff is excellent

6. Russ, by far my favorite primarch

7. Play style, up close and personal in shooting and assault

8. Color scheme

9. Based off vikings.

10. Very anti Codex but VERY loyal to Russ, the Emperor and the Imperium

11. They love a good drink, a good brawl and delicious meats. (many of the other chapters are .....rather bland and stiff backed)

12. Love the lost company angle

13. Love the style of the 13th Company, the most savage of the most savage.

A lot of people come asking to be convinced but if you need convincing then is the army really for you?

In my experience your either a Space Wolf... or your not. Either the army is for you or it's really not and it comes down to what you want not what we want. It's more important what you like than what we like.

Space Wolves are basically raucus, fun loving, loyal, space vikings. Personally I find them the most fun of any of the Space Marine Chapters by a long shot but I can't say whether that's your thing or not.

Read the Space Wolves: A Comprehensive History if you want to know more about the chapter.

i must say, good descision on the wolves (pardon any bad spellling please, i'm quite exhausted, and haven't slept in a few days ), we are the finest the imperium has to offer! that said, my great company has 12 grey hunter squads, and 4 blood claws at full strength (including my grey slayers as grey hunters), and while blood claws are great, in the newest rules (as in not being able to consilidate back into combat), they aren't as good as they used to be. still, there is nothing as great as the look in your oppenents eyes when you set down 2 squads of 16 blood claws (including leader), and run forward. i love that look. in fact, come to think of it, i know a 1k son player who needs to get that look again. i'll be back later guys, i'm gonna go play my wife ^_^
I've stated it previously.....let's try and get away from the "Why are you asking this? We should be asking you if you need to join us." Or "if you don't already know they aint for you" sentiment. Sometimes there may be some things the person has not considered which tip the scales one way or the other. Simply state why you love your army. :D
