Flaffles
I'm painting a squad of DW, and I'm wondering...Say I have an Ultramarine in the squad. On the shoulder pad with his Chapter's symbol, is it black around the trim, or is it still painted in his UM Company's colors? Machine God
well in my opinion yess i have a deathwatch squad painted up and i left the pad trim the same No! You paint the the shoulder pad in the Chapter Colours! The rest of the armour is 'Blackened' with CB, apart from the right arm which is MS. Cruor Vault
While traditionally only the shoulder pad is left in normal colors, I think it makes more sense to leave the entire right side of the model in its original colors. Think about how many chapters there are that are not readily recognizable without seeing at least half the body. The Colossus
Helmet, and shoulder pad (not trim) in chapter colours perhaps? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161933-deathwatch-modelling-question/#findComment-1991855 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
I thought it was black armor, silver arm with original shoulder pad..... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161933-deathwatch-modelling-question/#findComment-1991858 Share on other sites
The Colossus
The studio ones are done with all black armour, including trim, shoulder pad in chapter colours with chapter symbol, and left arm silver, including shoulderpad. Chest eagles are silver, eyes and gun casings are red. mega_marines
As I've seen and noticed with others, the background itself, and done with my own models is that they have entirely black armor save for the left arm which is silver and the shoulderpad is the silver Deathwatch pauldron. The right shoulder pauldron is their chapter color and symbol, but the trim is silver like the left arm. Hopefully, this answers your question. CDR Grendelwulf
I believe the confusion may stem from an early picture in White Dwarf, showing chapter trim... http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/thumb/c/c7/Deathwatch01.jpg/300px-Deathwatch01.jpg ...and the painting by the studio team, using silver trim only on the pads... http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/6/64/Deathwatchmini.jpg I would say a little variation can be allowed for either way, as long as the rest of the armor is in Deathwatch colours. Ciao, CDR Grendelwulf I'd go with the former and paint the trim in the chapter colours. That was probably the original intent and then the Eavy Metal team messed up (again).
