Master Chaplain Astador
Well for all of you who followed my Warforge, I'm having to put it on hiatus for now so that I can work on golden demon projects, since I have several days of vacation to use this summer I'll be on the road at Baltimore, Toronto, and ending in Chicago. So in preparation, I've been planning out some fun stuff to paint, and hopefully win, but really I'm just looking to grow as a painter. Now updates may be rare for a while, but after next week, I'll have some time between class and work to do some painting! ;) Anyway, my first entry that I'll be working on is the new Khorne Lord Zhafor model. He showed up earlier this week, believe it or not I ordered this batch of models last Saturday. (Well a friend of mine ordered for me! ;) ) Not much to show yet, the torso is just sitting on, and the pins are sitting in holes on the base, still cleaning the legs to begin working on him. New paints should arrive this week so I can start painting! :D http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo161/WarForgeStudios/Golden%20Demon/GD.jpg Probably will have more done on Sunday! Cheers Aj Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161934-work-desk-of-a-mad-man/ Share on other sites
blood_raven_240
Nice. Looking forward to see how this goes. Consider the thread bookmarked :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161934-work-desk-of-a-mad-man/#findComment-1902277 Share on other sites
Master Chaplain Astador
Haha glad to hear! :) I got to thank Il_Robez and Akaranseth though, they're two of my biggest inspirations to work on this model! :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161934-work-desk-of-a-mad-man/#findComment-1902308 Share on other sites
blood_raven_240
Heh, yeah well, credit to them too then :D If it's inspiration you're looking for, then try here! You could also take a look at the works of Canadian Golden Demon Painter, Vincent Hudon. Lord Graviax by Vincent Hudon - Warhammer 40,000 Single Miniature, Golden Demon Canada 2007 - First Place. Forsaeck, Aspiring Champion of Khorne by Vincent Hudon - Warhammer 40,000 Single Miniature, Golden Demon Baltimore 2005 - Second Place. How's that for inspiration? :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161934-work-desk-of-a-mad-man/#findComment-1902347 Share on other sites
Master Chaplain Astador
I have taken inspiration from those for several other models. :P The reason credit is due to Robez and Akaranseth, is because their both in the process of painting this same model. Vincents models look amazing in person, as do Akaranseths, Starks, and Lunchbox's. I luckily have the pleasure to have met all three, and they influence me greatly. Robez, when I can catch him on MSN is also a great inspiration and he and I tend to bounce idea's off each other. Oh and I can't forget Vtraxx, even though he never shows up on here that often, he's a great help. :) That was a nice little paragraph about my influences! :P Didn't think it'd be that long. I'm going to finish cleaning the legs now. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161934-work-desk-of-a-mad-man/#findComment-1902664 Share on other sites

Master Chaplain Astador
Haha Wiplash hopefully my log won't disappoint! :) The legs are cleaned, after I shower, I'll prime them and go pick up my new paints from the store in Grapevine! Master Chaplain Astador
Ok, well as promised, here is a bad picture of the leg where I am leaving it for the day. :) It actually looks smoother in real life, but it's only the first couple of layers. http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo161/WarForgeStudios/Golden%20Demon/GD004.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161934-work-desk-of-a-mad-man/#findComment-1903482 Share on other sites
Master Chaplain Astador
Well, I know this thread has died off, but I'm still kicking. Unfortunately, some non-PA contest paintings have taken up some time, as well as the Ultramarine Dreadnought posted in the HoH, well without his arms. :( Keep forgetting to photograph them. Anyway, Zhafor is coming up on my paint desk again. Once I finish my LotR contest model that will hopefully win my ticket to Toronto, and the Ultramarine Captain below, he will be in the lime-light. Now that doesn't mean I ever stopped working on him, I just haven't put as much in yet. But anyway, without further text and no pictures, here is the WIP Ultramarine Captain. Yet again missing pieces, (Legs!) and a poor pic. I tried something new with the flesh and used a bunch of new paints as just an experiment. http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo161/WarForgeStudios/Personal%20Armies/Ultramarines/HQ/captain002.jpg Blurry close up of the face http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo161/WarForgeStudios/Personal%20Armies/Ultramarines/HQ/captain005.jpg Comments and Criticism welcome! Messanger of Death
Your skin is stunning, even the blurry close up shows the level of detail you have applied to the face. Hope you develop as a painter through these projects and possibly even a placing. Good Luck, Messanger. Master Chaplain Astador
Another slight update. Worked on the blue blends some more as well as the metallics. Bolt Pistol is done minus some more highlights and possibly some freehand at a later point. Next up is the power sword, then backpack. ;) http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo161/WarForgeStudios/Personal%20Armies/Ultramarines/HQ/captain008.jpg Enjoy! Arch«•»Angel
that tone of blue you are using seems very different from what alot of other ppl use for UMs. kinda reminds of the artwork with calgar in TDA accompanied by honor guard fighting nids. i like it very much tho. great job. cant wait to see it finished. I'd go as far as to say it's a completely different hue instead of a different tone. Tone implies a difference in value of ultramarine blue... this looks to be more of a cobalt blue. Master Chaplain Astador
Where are the arms and torso from? Wouldn't you like to know! :) The torso, Sword, and Shoulder pads are filed down Red Scorpion Veteran pieces, the Bolt Pistol arm is a chaos arm and a bolt pistol hand from the commander box, and the head is a filed down IG Sergeant. Thanks for the comments guys, although I still haven't decided if the nervous tapping lunchbox spoke of is good or bad, so I'll ignore his! haha :P I'll have some more work done tomorrow. Oh and Pezz: Saw your SW Terminator bust, looked ace. I picked one up on ebay a while back and am only just now working on it. Started scraping the previous owners GS work off next need to file off his hair and the wolf parts! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161934-work-desk-of-a-mad-man/#findComment-1955138 Share on other sites

Started scraping the previous owners GS work off next need to file off his hair and the wolf parts! :) Man I'm painting him up like a space wolf for the owner of my LGS. If I could get my hands on another one, I'd Khorne or Slaanesh-ify him into next week... Man how cool THAT would be. What will you paint or sculpt him as if not a space wolf? Master Chaplain Astador
Well I was thinking Ultramarines, but I'm not 100% sure. Still up in the air, but I will more than likely not sculpt any chapter logo's I'll freehand them all.
