Nob Bikers vs Wolf Guard

ORKILL

Recommended Posts

Greetings brothers!

I have been away from the 40k world for about 3 years. My son is now starting to play and it has got me playing again. My painted armies were stolen including my Space Wolves. I still had an unpainted Praetorian army and some Codex Marines that were in storage. I am currently working on both armies now. However, I plan to assemble another Space Wolf army as soon as the WIPs are finished.

I live in a town where there are alot of 'heavy' lists. Nob bikers are a definite problem. It seems to me that a Wolf Lord and Wolfguard on bikes would be more than a match for these greenskins. Has anyone here tried this?

ALE IS ON ME!!!

welcome back fellow fang.nope dont really use bikes(mainly because its the 20th century and in the 41st century there bikes are practically the same) but use grey hunters with bolters(true grit still gives them +1 attack)

when theycome to you shoot and kill.

a dreadnought with assault cannon could come in handy and so could heavy bolters, they are orks so ap 5 should kill off most of them. blood claws are essential since they are pretty good in killing orks and you could just have your hq and blood claws/grey hunters in a rhino, or drop pod(that way the drop pod can kill some more orks)

now can i have my ale? ;)

Here it is!

No.... cause you loose. Sorry kicks but they have 4+ armor, 4+ cover save, 5+ invulnerable save, and feel no pain. These guys are very tough and worth most if not all of the 700-800pts you spend on them.

i agree with grey mage. blood claws do help to soften them up (as they won't get feel no pain or the 4 up in combat against power weapons, or could be insta-gibbed by power fists), but you really need to put a lot of shots into them. i have a decent amount of sucess with grey slayers with a lot of flamers, but thats 13th company, so not appicable.

you get no ale cause u didn't know what you were talking about :)

seriously though, you are on the right track. you need to pump fire into the squad. LOTS of fire, and then charge them with some big nasties (15man blood claw with powerfists plus wolf guard with power fist, plus like...wgbl with mc. lightning claws) to finish them off. thats my opinion though....

Seconded. This thread is going way OT.

Now, first things first, welcome to the Fang! If you're in Austin, Texas you might want to get these guys checked out, I believe IRL Bell Of Lost Souls run a bunker down there. They seem like nice (if slightly mad/obsessive) people.

Now, I haven't yet faced Nob Bikerz, so I'm limited on actual experience. I do do a lot of tactica stuff though, and as far as I can tell you basically want to do one of two things:

1. Hit them really, really hard. These things are incredibly tough and will require a good deal of fire to down - perhaps 80% of your force. It can be done, but if you are going to do it, do it properly. Don't rely on one or two "Uber units" of your own, hit them until there is literally NOTHING left.

2. Ignore them and try and focus on the rest of the army in Annihilate, or objectives the rest of the time. Feed them a couple of small, cheap units or try to tarpit them until you have cleared the rest of the Orks.

Unfortunately, as they are reasonably speedy and we have no cheap units or tarpits 2. isn't really an option. My best advice would be soften them with a Vindicator then charge with Blood Claws/ Grey Hunters / TDA.

I've met quite a few of the BoLs guys. They are a nice bunch and I plan on joining them for weekly battles and tournaments as soon as I get an army atleast 50% painted. The store they play at has a rotating schedule on their tournaments. One month it is "hobby" and the next it is "Heavy". The TH/SS termies are a popular choice there among the C:SM players.

Don't flamers ignore coversaves anymore? If so, a liberal sprinkling of heavy flamers on termies/dreads should be able to put quite a dent in those units (podding in next to them, of course); autohitting, wounding on 4+, AP4 and no coversaves means they suddenly only have their FnP left.

If the Nob bikers don't all have powerfists, ven/ironclad dread assaulting them could be crippling for the unit, too. Otherwise, I recommend stormshield/PF termies to assault them with.

I hate to say it but this calls for vindicators and is one of the few times I can see the landraider redeemer working out well. A mech-heavy list, supported by a footslogging infantry advance.... but thats just one way.

Really the key to winning against nob bikerz is the same as winning against orks in general- mutual support. Keep your units close enough together to help each other out. Take out any template weapons hes got ASAP and then stay within arms length.

The way to beat the Nobz is a few things...how you get to those conditions is another matter...however:

1. Use instant kill weapons - Meltas/Laz/Missiles - for shooting.

2. Deny them furious charge - get to them first.

3. Thunderhammers and Powerfists (instant kill).

4. Mass your forces and kill that biker squad.
