waaanial00
Hi all, I am going to be building an Ironclad as soon as I can lay my hands on a AOBR Dread. I have been massaging a list so that I can put a drop podding one into it when I realised that I had enough points to add the Assault Launchers onto it. I had a thought then, are they actually of use? Does anyone use them? They give your dread Offensive and Defensive grenades which means that those pesky S7+ people charging down your Dread get only their basic attacks and when you have to go through cover you are still attacking at I4. I mostly see the benefit being the addition of defensive grenades. So what are peoples opinion on adding these to the drop podding Ironclad? minigun762
I forget the point cost, but if its not too horrible I'd say why not. It increases your killing power when you charge by letting you swing @ I4 and it helps mitigate the first few Power Fists that are swinging your way if you get charged. Sternguard sergeant McColl
Useful? Are you kidding me? Last game against Orks I deep struck an Ironclad in a pod w/ 2x HF and assault launchers next to a loota squad. I burned them so hard they ran their way with smoking butts off the table, ork player paniced and attacked them with Nob bikers+warboss, Ironclad launchers give you defensive grenades as well so the warboss only got, what three attacks with the Powerklaw? Actually it didn't matter as he was instantly felled by a seismic hammer through his filthy face, the big nob had a powerklaw as well, but only got one hit and as he needed four's he couldn't kill the dread, he failed LD at a -3 modifier and was swept up. My Ironclads have never failed me. You won't find yourself making bad decisions because you wonder what to shoot at fearing it'll assault you, just helps him survive more damage than he already does. You won't have to choose between shooting at a vulnerable squad and shooting at one in fear of them assaulting, and It helps against anything in cover. I pair with HF's it's a good combo. tedwin183
I second the 2x HF...but the ironclad launchers are only useful in certain situations. Things like Orks, it can be very good for. Negating their charging attack is BIG, considering there'll be a ton of guys swinging at you on the charge. Also, for things like Tau that hide in cover a lot, it's useful. If you're not facing horde or anyone that hides in cover a lot, don't waste the 15 points. The Ironclad is beastly enough as it is. theredcorsair
Probably very useful if you are running against a squad of high strength enemies. But if you're assaulting a daemon prince, not so much Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162055-ironclad-assault-launchers-any-use/#findComment-1911295 Share on other sites
Redbaron997
I would say always take them, Most of the time you are Drop Podding in, and are a open target to be assaulted, since it has defensive grenades that greatly increases its survivability. And if then foolsihly dont assault you, then you can assault and have frag nades.
