Venerable Dread oh how i love thee

Recommended Posts

So last saturday was a RTT tournament at my new flgs 35 mins away instead of the hour before it closed.

the list didnt do so hot with a lot of castleing against my drop pods however in the first game something stupdenous happened my army was all but killed with a vindicator with just a stormbolter and a venerable dreadnaught with just the dccw rallied at turn 5 and wrecked havoc on his entire army up until turn 7.

im in disbelief that my dread managed to climb down from his perch march across the table and just decimated his dread 3 squads of marines 1 scout one vindicator, 1 whirlwind.

it just strode up to the vindic smacked it and bomb! walked then assaulted the whirlwind! boom! charged into a squad of marines who were joined by scouts and a few other marines crunch! in the end it was my venerable to 4 of his marines after it almost destoyred his entire army.

that and the thank god for reroll rules on the ven. ok lets see you rolled a 6 on pen and 6 and 5 on glance..... ok re roll them ah much better 1 2 1.

anyone else have astounding stories of venerable dreads just refusing to die?

btw my opponent was a salamanders army.

It seems any battle my venDread is in, he refuses to die. I once lost two units of bloodclaws to two Demolisher cannons pumping into them. But, that venDread just kept strolling through, as if for a light afternoon walk.

And proceeded to show the enemy how a space wolf really fights, by killing everything.

My venerable dreadnaught died his first game to an eldar ranger... ever since hes had a hardon for killing them. The most impressive thing hes ever done was took out an ork truck, three killakanz and then the squad who was in the truck before engaging mega-armored nobs and taking enough heat off my bloodclaws that they could finish the job.

I take him almost every game.

My ven dread is just an IG killing machine. My friend loves to play an IG gunline, and in the first 3 games we played I had it in the AC/HF configuration, and it accounted for about 4 or 5 squads each game, without getting scratched. So now he always brings 3 leman russes to our showdowns, but i switched the dread to TLLC/ML, and its taken down 6 tanks in the last 3 games, with its worst damage being an immobilized result after pretty much his whole army shot at it. gotta love that "hard to kill" rule

I finally put 11 BC's and a Leader in a Land Raider and even though the Necrons took my base I ended up wiping out 2 chaos units in cover and a their vindicator in turn 6 that were holding their base for my moral victory since my Ven Dread got knocked off the center marker in turn 5 after surviving 4 shots from the chaos vindi and many shots from chaos and necron HQ's and elites, Bjorn had been immobilised and had no weapons left of course but he was contesting the center until then. I highly recomend playing a Broken Alliance scenario the next time you only have 3 players show for game night, making and breaking deals with the other players was a blast and added a lot to the game. I would recomend extending the game beyond the standard game lenght because I still had enough on the field to take on the Necrons... the chaos player only had 2 Chaos Marines left at the end of the game so he would have probably been shooting at me for fun since I took his base and almost tabled him.

...the Ven Dread caused the other 2 HQ's to flee in turn one on broken alliance... had I not gone last I would have been able to charge one of them which might have given me the move I needed to win the game however when it takes 2 converging 1000 point armies with Bjorn stuck in the middle to knock him off the center marker that was a lot of shots that were not directed at Bjorns comrades... a glorious death indeed!

Vrox, ahhh Venerable Dreadnought Vrox.

Yesterday he drops in as an elite. He destroys a rhino right off the bat, then gets assaulted at the bottom of 1. Was this is a nasty assault? Oh yeah. Whole 'boyz squad with a Power Claw. Freakin Vrox, through 5 turns, kills 10 of them, but can't drop the power claw dude, loses his arm. Well, he gets a little assistance from Wolf Priest Tamant, and when he can't do his melee anymore, who cares? He finally gets away from assault and shoots, killing 4 marines in the last turn!

The thing is, he didn't pay for his points directly, but he kept a full squad of 'boyz with powerclaw busy for 4 turns. Yeah, I think he was worth it.

Played a game Friday vs TAU(Dawn of war/Annil). TAU went 1st and immobilized my VenDrd in a 5+ piece of terrain at the end of the game 6 turns VD had no arms but in the final rd alone he took 40+ shots from the entire army and that includes 9-10 shots from st10 rail guns. The guy tried to kill the Ven in the final turn to take the VP lead but Gjorn the Everlasting would not fall. Played him again Sunday and he again manages to immobilize him but not till after he shot the hell out of his squads, to bad that a HF doesn't have a longer range b/c that is all he had left.

Vsing knornate CSM in a tournament

had the bejesus shot out of me by two preds

was beginning to look very bad for me, my dread dropped down the bottom of turn 3, shot up a rhino, got penned, guy rolled a 2 (4th ed, can't move or shoot)

but he had extra armour

next turn he punches a hole in the side of a pred. destroys it. sweet

everyone shoots at him - pred, melta gun among other weapons

he keeps getting penetrated, but all rolls are either 1 or a 2 (of course i had to make him re roll some!)

next turn he runs into a squad of 10 marines. starts cutting them down over the next 3 combat phases, during the 1st one his aspiring champion was lucky enough to hit on a 6 with a melta bomb. and yeh, he rolls a 1 haha. killed them, put my fist through another pred, and took an objective

ended up winning that one because of him
