paulson games
Having a nearly a battle company worth of black reach marines laying around doing nothing I decided I'd put them to use. Since I can't modify them with templar bits they won't fit in with my templar army so I figured I'd make them into another chapter that I can use as an allied force. At first I was just going to do them in ultramarines as they'd be fast to paint but I just cant seem to let any model stay stock and everything I build need lots of converting. I also had some various pelts and capes laying around from mordheim that never really went anywhere, so figured what the heck I'll make some Inquisitor marines using a lion theme worked in with fantasy bits. I've always loved this figure and he's the basis for the theme: http://www.paulsongames.instantecom.net/i/warhammer/inquisator.jpg After much dremel work here's the first AOBR test marine http://www.paulsongames.instantecom.net/i/warhammer/lion2.jpghttp://www.paulsongames.instantecom.net/i/warhammer/lion1.jpg http://www.paulsongames.instantecom.net/i/warhammer/lion4.jpghttp://www.paulsongames.instantecom.net/i/warhammer/lion3.jpg http://www.paulsongames.instantecom.net/i/warhammer/lion5.jpg Not sure if I should grind off the skull on the back or keep it but give it inquisitor markings. He will probably get some chains and extra bits added to flesh out the model a bit more. I'll need to add a bit of greenstuff to fill in some small gaps and make the power pack fit slightly more flush, and probably GS or etched brass inquisitor markings. Also due for lots scraping as he has some wicked mold lines. The nasty gap in his wrist will go away when I glue the gun in place, right now it's staying loose so I can paint behind it. SHould I fill in the tears in the cloak to make it seem more inquisitoral? or leave it and make them look a bit more gritty? GhostLegion
keep the skull on some of them I think, maybe take from most...this will allow you some variations in the model. Overall I rather like the conversion so far. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162341-terran-lion-inquisitors/#findComment-1907836 Share on other sites
whitebeardixon
how much did you shave off on the chaos cape and the marine. im tempted to use that with my blacklegion Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162341-terran-lion-inquisitors/#findComment-1907872 Share on other sites
Shortsonfire79
I LOVE IT! I say keep the skull, and put some wings around it or something. (yeah, paint them on the cape) theoretically, it would be retarded when the wind blew, but it would look cool for models sake. If you have the tools, remove it. I would fill the holes, and make more shredding near the bottom. I think Inquisitors would be as clean as possible. paulson games
I removed a lot of material from the cape in one spot it's thin enough that I can see light through the plastic, went a bit too deep there actually. Definately not something to do by hand as it'll take forever, with a dremel it goes pretty fast. Basically the entire set of sholder pads were cut off then hollowed out as well as the arms and the box looking thing that normally forms the back of the warriors chest. Everything that wasn't part of the cape was cut off or ground out, with the knife I also trimmed and widened the neck of the cape slightly so it'd pair up with the marine armor collar. The marine has the backpack mount removed and only the very rear edges of sholder pad which I just scraped down with a knife. I've since cleaned up some of the parts on the arm since the black reach marines have some boxy type areas that are molded a little cruddy, but they certainly work fine for line troops, and way cheaper than a regular tactical squad. The dremmel tool is just amazing for conversion work, I'd held off getting one for a long time as they weren't cheap but now they are down to about $60-70 at home depot. I picked up the $70 cordless version and it came with a ton of differant tool bits. I'm still figuring out how to use a bunch of them, but the ones I make the most use out of are the cone shaped grinder which does the clean up work, and the bit that looks like a ball with ridges on it which does almost all the plastic removal. It just tears through the plastic and metal like butter, after yearsof doing that work by hand and usually bleeding as a result I can't stress enough how awesome it is for conversions and magnetizing jobs. Reyner
This looks like a great idea! I think you should keep the skull and as you say put a little Inquisition symbol on the forehead. For the cloak I think you should patch it up a bit also, making it look more "official". Ryno
I really like that cape conversion... I might need to give that a try. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162341-terran-lion-inquisitors/#findComment-1908340 Share on other sites
