The Fall of Thilosus Prime

Recommended Posts

Greetings to all. Well the Crusade of Brotherhood has taken a backseat these last few weeks. Why you ask? There has to be a good reason, we demand one! Well pressure of work, a bout of food poisoning, a long weekend in Moscow with my intended....and the fall of Thilosus Prime. Our small gaming group (very informal) have dcided to wage war on the surface (and in the orbit of) Thilosus Prime, a forge world that has fallen to the Dark Mehanicus. Basically a whole host of Traitor warbands are fighting over the planet and all it's resources. So far we have the following warbands involved:

The Warband of Occolar the Thrice Blessed (this is Doug's Emperor's Children - PIPA or Perverts In Power Armour as they have become known, and their Dark Eldar allies)

Kolazzar The Slaughterer (Rogo's World Eaters)

Bakkus The Petrid (Gary's Death Guard or couldn't you gather that by the name)

Vorl The Warped (Dave's Thousand Sons and their allies from The Scourged)

Dark Apostle Arak of the Word Bearer's (Plum's Word Bearer's bearing the word and with Daemons in support)

The Warband of Lord Juslav (Aaaron's Black Legion)

The Grand Company of Honsou (my Iron Warrior's force and their Night Lord allies)

We are using the excellent double-sided floorplans made by Rackham for AT-43. These are really excellent at representing a forge world. Our GM and referee Paul, is also introducing random elements into the game such as Dark Mechanicus units defending their world (basically heavily modified servitors etc but using Necron rules). I've plumped for the IW as they are sworn enemies of the sons of Dorn (my Crusade of Brotherhood Force) and I think the character of Honsou in Graham McNeil's books is great. After the destruction of his fortress he has decided to stake it all on capturing Thilosus Prime. He has joined forces with Polus Nekt, a renegade from the Night Lords.

We've decided on a no vehicle rule (dreadnoughts allowed) and so far it's been great fun - every game is a total bloodbath and Paul is great at keeping things rattling along. There has been rumours of a team on Inquisitors arriving soon complete with a force of Grey Kinghts, Battle Sisters and Deathwatch. So anyhow here's my first Iron Warriors, I apologise in advance as some have mould lines showing but I wanted to get them painted up so I could experiment with a colour scheme. So far I have a black undercoat, boltgun drybrush, armour trims in gold (followed by a brown ink wash - my local hobby store still had some GW brown ink left - so I bought all five pots!) with a fina lwash of everything in devlan mud.

So far so good,

I like your IW very much, good definition with the dark washes.

Yes, the old "I wanna paint already". I've suffered from that illness for a while. We all know that it's a timeconsuming task to clean up the models but in the future please do. Your skills with the brush are good but showing moldlines are going to haunt you in the future. Still I look at some of my models and go "arrrrggggh" why didn't I remove them? To bad I found out to late, nowadays I'd just do it.

How do you paint your hazard stripes btw? They look really sharp. I'm planning on putting those babies on my IW soon but I can't seem to find the right way.

Keep up the good work & post more pics please.

Cheers

Vandael: I may actually clean those mould lines off and repaint them - it has started to bug me now! For my hazard srtipes I used the following (over a black basecoat):

Iyaden Darksun

Golden Yellow highlight

Devlan Mud wash

And that's about it really!

Terminatorinhell: Agree with you on the IW helmet. GW made a bad decision when they withdrew all the individual bits off of the online store. If you want these now you have to buy a pack containing torsos, weapons, helms and shoulder pads - a bad day for all IW gamers I think.
