Brother Tancred
I'm thinking about modelling Berek Thunderfist but can decided how to equip him and his wolf guard squad. Was wondering if anyones got pics of their Wolf Lords and retinue for insperation and advice on the best equipment for them? Cheers Tancred Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162666-wolf-lord-guard-equipment/ Share on other sites
Yeti
I don't have a pic ... but here's how I equip my Wolf Lord : Frost Axe, Belt of Russ, Bolt Pistol, Frags, Wolf Pelt. Comes in at 125 pts. Personally, the Frost Axe & BoR are essentials. The higher Str hits at Init make a big difference and the Inv save is essential ... everyone will be giving you handshakes with power fists. About the only other suggestion would be a Wolf Tooth Necklace. If you plan on going after elite units, hitting them on 3+ is always very nice. Grey Mage
Berek Thunderfist used a powerfist.... so you should probly go with that. *shrugs* of course you dont have to. WolfBitten
If i recall, Berek didn't even have the option of NOT using a powerfist, since he had it built directly into his bionic arm... "He stroked his beard as he walked, unconsciously flexing his power gauntlet. His mind wandered back to the battle in which he had lost his natural arm and smiled slightly. In that battle, he had squared off with Khârn the Betrayer, the legendary berserker of Khorne, a Chaos Marine whose name brought fear to even his own side. Now that was a battle, Berek thought to himself." - Taken from "Sons of Fenris" So yep, if it's gonna be Berek....it's a powerfist :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162666-wolf-lord-guard-equipment/#findComment-1912245 Share on other sites

I was thinking more along the lines of a storm shield powerfist combo and the other wolfy items so I get 3+ invunerable with 5 attacks hitting on 3 and wounding most foes on 2+ :D but the fist is mainly based on fluff. But I'm still considering building him like the fantasy chaos Crom model where he'll have a frost axe and storm shield in his right hand and the powerfist on the left and just use the axe in games. Skirnir Ragefang
If you want to model Berek and his guard, you should include Mikal Stenmark, his champion. He wields a sword called Redclaw. If there were other named characters, i don't remember. Sternmark was a WG battle Leader btw, not a normal WG....it's stated specifically which is why he takes charge whenever Berek is busy :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162666-wolf-lord-guard-equipment/#findComment-1912325 Share on other sites

Vash113
For Berek I'd suggest modeling him with a Power Fist bionic arm and a Frost Blade in the other hand with a Storm Bolter mounted on he back of his arm and Terminator Armor using Logan Grimnar's rules to represent him. Here are some of my Wolf Guard Battle Leaders and Wolf Guard Bodyguards: http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m307/Vash113/Space%20Wolves/IMG_0222.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m307/Vash113/Space%20Wolves/IMG_0226.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m307/Vash113/Space%20Wolves/IMG_0225.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m307/Vash113/Space%20Wolves/IMG_0224.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m307/Vash113/Space%20Wolves/IMG_0215.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162666-wolf-lord-guard-equipment/#findComment-1912687 Share on other sites

Grimfoe
Here is my Wolf Lord, Jugger Grimfoe with his retinue: I didn't go crazy with the wargear options as I'm thinking that the options will be more limited with the new codex. Just a simple Thunder Hammer and Stormsheild for Grimfoe and only powerfists with the Assault Cannon. Max_Dammit
I made sure not one of my WG is the same, this way i can split the incoming fire and attack and give it to the one with his runic charm in tact or the one i could miss if i fail my save Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162666-wolf-lord-guard-equipment/#findComment-1913938 Share on other sites

I plan to allocate fire either to my Assault Cannons, if I think we'll be in hand to hand from here on out, or to my TH/SS guard if I think that I'll make more of the saves and I want to keep the ranged weapons. I think we have a flexibility here that other marines have really come to envy. I'm not sure we'll be able to say the same once we do get a new codex. Brother Tancred
I've just had some thoughts about modelling Berek with a chainfist. Do you think it would be allow gameing wise to be a frost sword attached to his gauntlet? It would make it easier to convert a storm shield over a storm bolter so he's not all CC. I was thinking a TH/SS gaurd, I was thinking 2 HF/PW because Berek has a reputation as a CC fiend  unless some one can persude me for AC, ML is a bit expensive for my liking. The final guys will oviously be Mikal with power sword and SS and either another PW/SS or a PF/SS. Grey Mage
Heavy Flamers arent a bad idea if youll be assaulting out of drop pods alot.... so this is certainly an option. I prefer the assault cannon for its umitigated ability to reach out and touch someone you know? Nothing really beats Str6 Ap4 Rending.... X4 for saying "I can see you, :cusshole". In any case I can see a chainfist working pretty well, holding one of the older metal minis at the moment and I think it could be done by filing off the motor servo on the base of the weapon and a bit of the gauntlet. Itll make the chainblade look slightly longer and the fist less massive and well, powerfist like. One last comment, if your going to go the heavy flamer route I can stress enough just how much they need a ride. Drop pod or an LRC.... but something. Please dont doge the swear filter and just use the smiley Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162666-wolf-lord-guard-equipment/#findComment-1914365 Share on other sites
Brother Tancred
I was going to drop pod them so they can burn as many heretics as possible before getting stuck in, plus with everything getting cover now I find assault cannons not as effective. But I'm going to magnetis the arms to that I can use both weapon options and play test them.
