SoulReaver296
i've been playing for a while, and some of my friends with SM armies like how tough and versatile my GK are, especially for being troops. some are thinking of adding a squad or two (by proxy) and seeing how they like it, maybe getting some for when they change up their lists. One player (Smurfs), likes the rules set, and the models to some extent, but doesn't like the fluff for having them in his army. his solution is to say that they are instead veterans of a different nature than sternguard or vanguard, focusing on balanced tactics (can't remember what his explanition for them being troops was, though). he plans on removing inquisitorial symbols and replacing them with ultra-signs, painting them blue, and may even come up with a new name for the squad. what are your thoughts on this? jeffersonian000
As long as he follows the rules for allying Gk's into his SM army, I say all power to him. He does not even have to use the GK models; he can easily just give a squad of tactical marines stormbolter, relic blades, and fancier paint job. Personally, I like the idea of GKT's filling in for Black Templar terminators, as they have that "Emperor's Champion" look. Alanter
That sounds a little heretic SoulReaver296. I think the Sumrfs have enough units. :cuss But on the other hand grey knights are not that good in a Ultra's army. If he wants to play them then let him. He will not be as successful as you anyway. Smurfs always wanted all the stuff available in the galaxy - they even could not get their hands of the chaos relic now known as the fists of Macragge. :cuss Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162743-grey-knight-identity-crisis/#findComment-1913146 Share on other sites
Brother Delias
ULTRASMURFS FOR THE snore.... god I hate those blue space pimps! Anywho, a person's money is their to do with as they please, so honestly he can do whatever he wants... Personally? I rather like the GKs and GKTs as they are, but stripping off the Imperial =][= off of GKs? For of all things that damnedable U? Ultramarines get enough loving from GW... they don't need to defile the most venerated space marine chapter in existance to pimp themselves further.... jakehunter52
So where does this guy live? I have a =I= shaped object that I have to deliver to him...in his face....repeatably. Seriously, that is going too far. He already has sternguard and vanguard veterans plus the command squads you can buy for the captains and chapter masters that he can dolly up in omegas and such, not to mention they have very similar rulesets (unfortunately...). And if he doesn't like the idea of having daemonhunters in his army, what is going to explain the shrouding? Or the difficult terrain for daemons? Or the fact that the justicar is a psyker? That they are an offshoot of Exorcists or something (which I also think is dumb because Grey Knights already existed for that purpose and they just don't have the same sort of epic Good vs Evil flavor)? And has he though how confusing this might be and annoying to say over and over, "They aren't Grey Knights but they use the exact same rules as them." THEN CALL THEM GREY KNIGHTS! Seriously, the other guys is just going to refer to them as such for the sake of simplicity and all his fluff means nothing. Also, I find it really insulting that he doesn't think that our army is flavorful or rich enough to use and he has to wash it over with his own over used theme (not suggesting he overuses it but GW). Yeah, he can do this but it doesn't mean he should. Spirit of the game man, spirit of the game. Almost as bad as someone claiming their SMs are one of the lost Primarch's legions.... Ozybonza
Let him do whatever he wants, as long as the models are notibably different someway as to not confuse the opponent, it's fine. Allot better than "You didn't spend as much money as me on Grey Knights so you can't use them!" Grand Master Tyrak
jakehunter52 Posted Yesterday, 10:54 PM <insert post> I think he just wants to use them in his army, not actually want the Grey Knights to become/be replaced by Ultramarines. At least I hope that's what he meant. If not . . . :) I don't see any problem with using them in his army, but why bother with all this "They're XYZ Honour Guard" or similar. Just play them as Grey Knights. They're just as good, and just as likely to be in your army. I just don't get it. Just so long as the models are easily distinguishable to his opponents, "counts as" is completely appropriate. One person's awesome fluff is another person's drivel. Who are we to judge? We're all somewhat biased, seeing as we're here because we're fans of the original. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162743-grey-knight-identity-crisis/#findComment-1915032 Share on other sites
ripath
Saying that they aren't fluffwise Grey Knights? That means that they are corruptible to chaos. Because Grey Knights are the only army that is not. Well look on the bright side. when you fight him that means that the smurfs have finally gone to chaos and you yes YOU get to purge them. Don't let them escape to taint others! The Emperor himself demands your victory against such a foe! Marneus calgar is the cherry on top if he plays with him. jeffersonian000
Could just be a unit of librians in terminator armour with relic blades and wrist mounted stormbolters. As long as the rules are followed, who cares what the unit is called or what fluff is being used. Prathios
I always wondered what the point of playing this particular game was if you didn't care about the fluff. Its designed for fluff happy folks like myself. Following the spirit of the game is more important than the rules IMO. Rules lawyers can ruin the game just as quick as an over fluffy person. Just my 2 cents. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162743-grey-knight-identity-crisis/#findComment-1916354 Share on other sites
Brother Delias
a certain bending of fluff for personal stories is okay IMO, however, complete disregard of a 20 year storyline is not. It's not as if smurfs don't have EVERYTHING else to play with anyways.... next smurfs will want Tau as scouts... ChaosLord Leon Enaek
Don't be silly, Ultramarines would never induct Tau units as Scouts. God-Emperor, even they can leave off occasionally. Tyranids as Scouts however... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162743-grey-knight-identity-crisis/#findComment-1917458 Share on other sites

Inquisitor =D=
How about a smurf Space Marine looted Carnifex. Just dont think about it too long or you'll go cross eyed. ^_^ You had to say it didn't you? Let em do what he wants. I still don't know why the Gk's aren't good enough for the smurfs but that's his choice to make. Me I was thinking about using Necromunda Arbites as "count as" Sisters of Battle. I mean they both have bolters right? ;) {Thinking back on it a silver armored unit of Gk's would look pretty sweet mixed in with a smurfs army. It'd be like a solid steel core in a fist of blue.} Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/162743-grey-knight-identity-crisis/#findComment-1919557 Share on other sites
