Quick update as I haven't had time to take any decent pics as yet.

Terms and additional GK troops done, hopefully that's it for this force. I am hoping I aint gonna get sucked into it like the Crimsons, however I am liking the look of the Lord/retinue packs.....uh oh...

Will get some army shots with the titan next week hopefully ;)

wow! those are looking better and better with more boots on the ground! did you paint the GKT and PAGK the same way as described earlier? would it be possible for a paint conversion table of sorts from Tamiya to GW or even Vallejo?

again looking pretty sharp buddy ;)

Started to expand the GK's a little. Started with some Asassins, love these figs, remind me of the old Rogue trader days... Got some inquis stormtroopers and Coteaz and his buddies incoming too

5. Now, here's the real secret, it's all in the varnish. give the models a good coat of quick drying GLOSS varnish to give it a little resilience against handling. once dry its at this stage you need to add any transfers. Now the secret ingredients, grab yourself a MATT varnish made by a company called RAILMATCH, I use the aerosols (#1407) so cant vouch for the potted stuff they do. Give the model a good going over and leave to dry for AT LEAST a couple of days. It takes long to harden off but this stuff REALLY brings out the richness of the colours and can convert a fantastic paint job into a bloody fantastic paint job, trust uncle Bully, I have been using it for years!

The matt varnish cuts gloss and sometimes makes everything look a little bit frosty-crystalline, but how does the gloss varnish look after going onto the metal? Does it from a plastic sheen, or does it sharpen the contrast and richness in the metallic particles? I can't imagine why matt varnish does more for the richness than gloss.

I suppose it all boils down to how you blend the original colours 7eal. The gloss varnish in my case tends to reflect light from all directions and completely wrecks the effect I am aiming for. Really annoying but my style of painting really doesnt lend itself to photography (at least not to someone like me with a camera in hand) my painting looks much better looking throuhg the good old mk1 eyeball! The matt varnish brings everything back down to earth and puts the highlights back where I intended them to be. To be honest I have never been a fan of the gloss finish on minis but the whole gloss/matt debate has been going on since a brush first hit the cold hard lead of a miniature. It's personal pref at the end of the day I guess but all I can suggest 7eal is go buy a can of the mentioned matt varnish and just give it a try, use it right it won't frost, will bring all the sheens into line (if you use several makes of paint like me you will know what I mean) and generally add a little more depth to the colours. Jaysus, ark at me....sort of sounding like I know what I'm talking about :P

Finally found a little time to paint these Inquis Stormtroopers and transport!

Corteaz and his retinue are next followed by a couple more GK Landraiders so I can put together the Hector Rex formation from the new Vraks book. Might paint up another squad of GK's too if I ever get the time

Anyhow, in the meantime here are some pics
