Space Wolf Omnibus, what do you think

Well, I haven't got the Omnibus myself, I've read it but I don't own it... I do have Wolfblade if that's any consolation. I'd like to get my dirty, ale-soaked paws on it though, just have to get Sons of Fenris and Wolf's Honor to go with it.

@ Prathios- I do own that though. ;) So next time I go to the Wolf Priest, if he tells me to start eating onion soup I should be worried eh? Especially if there's a Tallarn there with him?

:D

You might want to find a new wolf priest :P Oh and owning Wolfblade is no consolation, this is the Imperium of man. Buy the Omnibus, the Emperor *cough, All-Father* will love you more for it. 12 Thrones isn't going to set you back now is it? After all I hear the Space Wolves are paying pretty good these days. Oh and I hope all of you are caught up with the Horus Heresy by November... I still can't believe we got Dan the man Abnett to write the Space Wolf book. Score 1 for the coolest chapter in the Imperium.

Here's the Space Wolves Omnibus from an Ultramarine player and first-time Black Library reader's perspective (I've got about 100 pages left, or thereabouts):

It's a great read. Book One was slow, and took me quite a while to get through. I liked how Ragnar was built up as a character, but his 'supporting cast' in this book felt like throwaway characters. Some of the most intruiging guys got the least face-time!

Book Two ups thepace and the action, but had some god-awful character development. Not of Ragnar or the Wolves, but the Inquisitional 'supporting cast.' The climax at the end was poorly done, and pretty much a deus ex machina. Big, bad fiction writer's bugaboo.

Book Three is the best so far, but suffers from some of the same problems the first two did. Interesting supporting cast who never get any face time, or further elaboration. Some of the situations and events Ragnar witnesses are flimsy as all-get-out. it feels like he was placed in these spots just so the audience gets a better understanding of how the Chapter works on the inside and higher up, but it's a poor literary device when the author fails to give us a compelling reason for the events.

There's the English major in me coming out. You do five years of literary critique, and you just can't stop doing it. lol.

Overall, though, it's a great read for its cover price. I was a semi-fan of the Wolves before reading, and am now fully ensconced in my fandom of the Chapter. So much so that I am thinking of making the Wolves my second army, should I ever complete my Ultras.
