WIP Baneblade Conversion from IG to Space Marine Variant

I'm about 90% complete with this. I've always liked the baneblade and thought that a marine army could use it in apocalypse with some modifications, namely extra armour and better ballistics skill.

I decided to centre the turret, use the vindicator cannon and predator sponsons and file off the rivets. I added some thicker armour with plasticard to make it look somewhat more beefy and in line with marine tanks.

I reshaped the turret as you can see.

I'm waiting for some more greenstuff and plasticard to finish up. As well as assault cannons for the spot where the heavy bolters are originally located. I'll also be using a razorback turret covering to keep in line with the space marine motif.

Any C&C would be welcome.

Thanks

You sure that main gun is long enough? :P

I would have been tempted to go with Raider sponsons, even if only 1 gun, instead of the Predator ones, personally. To have a gun almost in mid air looks fine on the smaller Pred, but a little too vulnerable for what is such a hefty machine.

A good piece of work, though!

Thanks Doghouse!

I'm currently working on expanding the turret to make it a little more meatier and look in proportion to the rest of the tank (I swear, all IG tanks have that problem...).

I'll be sure to post pictures in a couple hours.

Thanks for the replies everyone. After some swearing and gnashing of teeth, I have managed to expand the turret to a much more proportional size to the rest of the tank. I think I may have inadvertantly created the Merkava Israeli tank. lol

As for why I didn't deck out the weapons, I felt that it was a trade off. Armour 14 all round and ballistics skill 4 are worth the decrease in weapons. I felt that something had to give in order to not make this obscene in terms of points using VDR.

In any case here's pictures of the tank with the new larger turret. A lot of green stuff remains as well as some more plasticarding I'm sure.

As usual C&C would be welcome.

Hm.. looks promising, for sure. I'd have to wait and see it painted, personally. Just can't visualize it at the moment.

Seriously though, how is it that some people seem to be so pro at making scratchbuilds with plasticard? The last time I tried it was a total bust and I simply had to scrap my idea.

This is actually my first attempt with plasticard. lol The only thing I can suggest is don't force things. Just score the plasticard and it'll break apart easily enough. A sharp xacto knife and a decent ruler are manditory.

Most importantly, I think you have to be patient. There were a lot of recuts with that.

Oh and Greenstuff is a godsend. It fills in gaps and errors. I've greenstuffed the turret and will photograph it again tonight.

I really appreciate the comments. I did try to tie it into the styles of the rest of the marine tanks. I do need to beef up those sponsons somehow though.

Thanks again.

Greenstuffing today. The turret is now seamless and looks ultra-smooth. As are some gaps in the body below the turret. I'm thinking of adding more plasticard in order to create more depth.

The sponsons I'm still torn on. They need to look chunkier, but I'm at a loss. Sadly I can't just go out and spend more money on this thing. lol I've spent close to 200 dollars on this if you count the baneblade, vindicator, and predator. lol Thankfully, I could use the rhinos that will remain from the latter two tanks.

As usual, pic below:

Perhaps the sponsons could be upgraded to land raider ones and mounted in the middle of the three possible positions. Because right now it looks like the lascannons would have their range halved because of their size and position. Plus super heavies scream for twin linkage for the non-primary weapons.

Hey all,

Sorry about not updating in a while. Life interrupted me. I've basically completed construction. I'm still awaiting delivery of the assault cannons for the front turret, but I went ahead with painting regardless.

60% complete on the base coat in Snakebite Leather, I can assure you that this won't look so bright when it's complete lol

I do wish I had an airbrush though lol

I'm also seeking two lascannons to twin-link the sponsons and beef them up. That can of course be completed in the near future.

As usual, here's the pics.

Well, time for another update:

Camo scheme is pretty much complete. All that's required is a mud wash to darken the colours somewhat.

Lots of trim and highlighting to do as well as touch ups.

I shall drill the barrels of the grenade launchers out and the stormbolter. ;)

Twin-linked Assault Cannons still have not arrived....grr....

What have I learned thus far?

Well for one, painting a baneblade in such a fashion is an exercise in tedium that can only be accomplished by the truly patient.

C&C welcome as always.

Thanks!

Yeah the camo fits into the rest of my marine army. All my vehicles are painted in camo with the same colours. A rhino and razorback are below:

My tactical squads are catachan green and my terminators are snakebite leather.

The whole scheme fits together when the entire army's grouped together.

Update time:

Did a ton of dry brushing of boltgun metal in order to make this beast look like it's been through some fights in its time. So what's left?

- Guns

- Tracks

- Imperial Eagles

- Chapter logo

- Tank number

- Lights

- Dirt/Mud, etc...

- Washes

C&C welcome as always

Nobody look in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Images Like This One on his Imageshack!!!! I don't know what that has to do with a Baneblade!!!!

I like it, I think the Pre-Heresy LandRaider sponsons from Forgeworld would have looked alot better on the sides.

Needs a highlight of some kind, and wash, looks to crayola right now.

Now you need some Marines riding all over it. The turret, the sides, one guy with his arm around the Demolisher cannon,

Do you have the dozer blade from the Vindi box? If you do see if you can slap that on the front! That'd look great!
