New to the Hobby, new to Daemonhunters

Greetings everyone,

Well after a few grueling months of efforts my sister who is both into Warhammer 40k and Fantasy managed to convince me to start off an army. As a dedicated roleplayer I first asked for books where I may learn more than just Dawn of War and is sequel about the universe, factions and others. My sister has been playing with the Ordo Hereticus for five years now and since we want to take part in a 2v2 team competition that will come in a few months and reading fluff (Grey Knights series anyone?) i have chosen to take the banner of the Ordo Malleus.

I have spent my money on acquiring two Ordo Malleus Inquisitors (and retinues), a Grey Knight Hero, 20 Grey Knights in Power armour (I spent two weeks converting two space marine tactical squads), two space marine dreadnaughts, three boxes of Kasrkin (Inquisitorial Stormtroopers) and I also own three Rhinos.

I am happy to be here and ouf so many questions come through my head. I look forward still to learn more about the Inquisition and I know they're old armies but it's the lore/stories that attracted me.

May the Emperor be with you,

Imperator Gloriam!

Brother Captain Bogdan, 5th Company of the Ordo Malleus Chamber Militant.

Fire away, this is what we are here for. Be sure to read the resources available, many veterans inhabit our hallowed halls. Check our Water Warrior thread, near the top of the forum.

You have a good start there, I would recommend, at some point, a Grey knight Terminator squad for your hero. I assume that you are familiar with the core rules of the game, targetting units, assault etc. Since models in terminator armour can't sweep enemy units after an assault, the hero joining a power armour unit would hold them back. Gine are the days of lone characters running around, not getting shot at.

Greetings brother!

I am glad to hear we have another soul to dedicate to the Emperor's service. You seem to be off to a great start, and the army you described is a perfect way to get accustomed to standard DH units while still boasting a competent core. I'm also glad to hear one of your family members is an active player - if only I were to be so lucky.

Anyways, one particular phrase in your post struck me - "(...) dedicated roleplayer(...)". Not to come off as overbearing, but if you find yourself greatly interested in learning about and enacting Inquisition-based fluff, I might as well go ahead and point you towards the Verus Imperator Adventum Role Playing Thread, located in this very forum. It's a good place to develop your story, and interact with like-minded players.

Regardless, I just wanted to take the time to greet someone as enthusiastic as you to our hallowed halls. I hope you have a great time purging the unclean!

Sincerest regards,

(Former) Inquisitor Nikolai Basavriuk

You've come to finest Inquisitorial resource on teh Internets [sic]. ^_^ Always a pleasure to add another member to our hallowed halls.

Don't be shy, but do check out some of those stickied topics. Lots of gold to be mined from there.

I just wanted to add two major thoughts to what my brethren have already posted:

1) The only dumb question is the one not asked. Even if it seems silly, check what other people's opinions or experiences are, and remember that lots of people read other threads and still find bits of information they didn't know in there in someone elses story or response. You'll get lots of different answers, the Inquisition especially is tailor made to be customizable and ecclectic. Read all the answers, try what you like or agree with, don't worry about the rest. There is no one true way.

2) My advice in collecting and fielding units is this: Read the fluff, read the Codices, grab what looks NEAT and FUN for you. In my experience, picking the units that you find cool works very well for the following reason. If it appeals to you in looks and flavor, chances are your brain wants to field it the way it was intended, as opposed to taking something you don't like and trying to force it to work when it's a unit or strategy that your brain isn't inclined to. I believe it is more important to pick the weapon that matches the warrior, rather than trying to force a warrior to match the weapon. I practice this belief in my playing 40k and Fantasy and have never been dissappointed with it.

Above all, have fun and welcome. We only burn fictional heretics after all :)
