Two Predators or One LR?

Just curious what people think about using two Predators versus one LR (any flavor) for general purpose fire support? I don't have anything really nasty to transport in a LR just yet, but was thinking it might still outclass the two Predators simply because it would be more durable (and fewer KPs) and can still put out large amounts of dakka, even while moving.

playing with two predators or one LR well that leaves a lot to option of other people to just answer that question. i offer with this option that a lR cost 250 while a predators are any were for 85 to 160pts depending what configration you taking in your army. also to me i looking at what is more important to me is not weather your getting bang for the point but durable than 1 LR while i like the idea but one thing i ask. what would you rather protect 2 predators or 1 land radier.. i rather hard choices.

most of the time I would take the pred's I think you have more options with them, for the 250 points for a land raider you can get 2 reasonably kitted out preds that will have more firepower and a front armour that is almost as strong (13 to 14) if you can keep at range or from being outflanked with them, they work pretty well.

where the land raider makes it's money is tranporting large numbers of marines.

I'd take the Land Raider. If all else fails, put a Tactical Squad into it - nothing will make your opponents cry more than an AV 14 scoring unit.

Also, remember that the LR is AV 14/14/14, the Preds are 13/11/10

Don't make the mistake of thinking only about front armour. Your opponent won't.

Depends on your enemy and your own army. Facing some seriously nasty tank-busting capabilities, like heavy equipped Eldar, or lots of Meltas? Then having a single target as costly as a Land Raider will not give you much pleasure. Against anything else though, having one of the toughest things in the game really IS your friend.

For general purposes, the Land Raider might just be the choice. Preds really don't shoot better if unequipped, and if equipped heavily, they lose their advantage of cost. With the Machine Spirit, the Land Raider really is a VERY agressive unit, wheras the Preds might be harder to manage, might waste shots when shuffling only a few inches, and will die to a stiff breeze if your enemy ever gets in your rear. Land Raiders can take any sorts of beatings, shield a scoring unit, and kill just as much stuff as the Preds can.

Good point, even a little Scout Squad could be kinda useful, more so if they're BP/CCW and actually charge something.

Yeah but most people rely on Melta weapons to take out heavy vehicles and within 6" there isn't alot of extra protection between AV11 and AV14.

My vote would be 2 Predators, probably 2 "Combi" Predators with AutoCannons and LasCannons.

Thats 4 S7 and 4 S9 shots @ 2 possibly targets.

The Best a Land Raider can do is 3 S9 shots (rerolled), 3 S5 shots (rerolled) or 2 and 6 respectively.

Plus you're saving 10 points on the deal.

If they are having to try to get around the back of the tank, then they are having to put some kind of tank hunter well around the side of things. It will take them effort and resources, and for the money I would say against most lists the 2 options are going to take about as much fire as each other before popping.
