Rorsome
Hi all, Couple of things came up in my last game about the thunderfire cannon, can someone shed some light on the correct way to assault one please, the below is how we worked it but i'm not sure its correct! 15 Hormagaunts assaulted my Thunderfire which was in cover, we'd be told by a GW staff member that the Cannon itself was classed as armour value 10 all round and that a glancing or penetrating hit meant it was removed from the game. However we were also told that when rolling to hit, the hits should be divided between the techmarine and the cannon, 1&2 Tech, 3-6 Cannon (that was for shooting though, does that apply to cc too?). So my opponent then rolled to hit, then re-rolled his hits to see what they hit (for the points sake say he hit 20 times, those 20 dice were rolled causing 6 hits on the tech and 14 on the cannon). He then rolled to wound the Tech with the 6 hits on him and rolled 14 dice against the cannons AV10. Alas both died, the above seemed to play ok but we couldn't find any official rules anywhere... if you know any better let me know! Thanks, R Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163051-assaulting-a-thunderfire-cannon/ Share on other sites
Cypher 102
Check page 55 of the main rulebook. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163051-assaulting-a-thunderfire-cannon/#findComment-1916286 Share on other sites
Legatus
They were wrong. You check whether you hit the artuillery gun or the crew when shooting at them, but not in close combat. In combat, enemy models can move into contact with the gun, as if it was a part of the unit, but then all enemy units will attack the crew, even those in contact with the gun. The gun is effectively ignored, it can not be attacked or make any attacks, but enemy models in BtB with it are counted as being in BtB with a member of the artillery unit. See page 55 for the rules for artillery. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163051-assaulting-a-thunderfire-cannon/#findComment-1916312 Share on other sites

eyescrossed
I agree with never listening to a redshirt - I normally keep to my self when other people are playing a game, but a few times I've just had to step in - one time a GW staff member tried to assault his assault marines 12". I was like "Uhh... They can only assault 6 inches", he said "Really now?", checked the rulebook and *face-palm*ed.
