Eldar Hunting partner

I have a friend that often fields 3000pts of anything. He makes a bit of a song that his Biel Tan kicked my butt and that since then I have thought of various ways to get some vengeance.

I play BT and I was thinking that as he has neither DH or WH (he seems to have just about everything else in cluding BT) I maybe able to get some advantage. Thing is I only want about 1000pts worth tops and no Inquisitors.

I run foot sloggers and prefer cc to shooting, and was wondering which army would fit in best to help kill off his pointy ears.

If you prefer close combat, go with the daemonhunters. Witch hunters are good, but they rely on shooting over combat. GKs are much better in combat than sisters.

I had vaguely considered this, but the numbers are small. What are they like at hunting pointy ears? That is the area I really need to fill. Having some range may not be a bad idea as my list doesnt contain anything with a range over 24 inches,(except 1 heavy bolter and 1 plasma cannon in the command squad) however I know that the GK weapons are superior to bolters.

Either way though, I need Eldar killers and not sure which is better for that. I havent got either codex so cant mathhammer it either. Others experience I trust more than math hammer anyway, its been played and the dice rolled.

It's a hard call, but narrowly, I'd go with Daemonhunters. They're more resilient, and many of them have Storm Bolters (Able to punch holes in Eldar Aspect Warriors). You could even fit in a Grey Knights Razorback or Grey Knights Land Raider from Forgeworld... that would be nifty.

Brother Captain Stern

2-3 Squads of Grey Knights in Power Armour

0-1 Squads of Grey Knights in Terminator Armour

(You could maybe also snag a squad of Imperial Stormtroopers, or two)

Daemonhunters, for a couple of reasons. First, Psycannons. They'll go through most Eldar armour saves (AP 4), ignore Inv. Saves, causes Instant Death due to Str 6 v T3, and will work wonders against the Avatar should he take one.

Second, Psychic protection. All Grey Knights have a psychic hood for their squad in the form of The Aegis Special Rule, and if you buy one for a DH character from the Armoury, it has unlimited range. That'll keep you safe from any psychic tricks.

I can throw a couple of options out for sisters: More bodies, Psychic protection in the shield of faith, access to bolters, flamers and meltaguns, good saves from power armor. Acts of faith can really cramp any opponent's battle plans, especially when The Passion boosts your Initiative in close combat.

Does that Shield of faith cover an area of affect of just the Sisters? Is there a chance of matching pointy ears in Initiative?

@ GMT: That sounds a good option as he runs a least 1 unit of wraith guard and one wraith lord, I guess who ever I pick must be able to take on these distraction units that can be a pain if left to it. Is that psy hood thing an area of affect?

Blood Raven: That sounds a better load out than I expected for 1000pts. I wont bother with the DH LR though unless it has something like the Blessed Armour of the BT and that is only an upgrade on the LRC.

For an idea of what I am up against (unless he changes the load out). 1 unit of Warp Spiders, 1 or 2 of Waith Guard 1 Wraith Lord, some heavy weapons and some other units. Almost forgot, and a lot more experienced general than me. Those are what I would call the distraction units, and would be what whatever ally I take would be used to tie up while my BT get on with killing off the other units more numerous as we play to the death.

The DH psychic hood has unlimited range, one of the good sides of having an older codex. Better yet, the wording in C:DH means it applies to powers that boost his units too, whereas The Aegis Special Rule only applies to a psychic power targeting the GK unit in question. Be advised though, you have to choose between the psychic hood and The Aegis, you can't use both on a single power. It is a very useful backup if the guy with the psychic hood gets killed.

I would go with Sisters. 1 or 2 Immolaters with Heavyflamers and Holy prometheum makes quite a mess of the eldar and forces them to make an LD test no matter what +it can move 12" and is stil able to fire. Which is great against harlequins.

You can also make them as dedicated transport for 6 Retributers with 4 Heavybolters. Or Dominions with special weapons.
