Wolf Guard Hengist
Annhilation, Dawn of War Ok I had a great game the other day against my friend Von Muller and his Necrons it was a very close game and to be honest Von Muller had me on the back foot for most of the game untill he used the Veil to teleport his large 20 strong unit of warriors. Russ was with me though and his unit scattered into my Vindicator and then got lost in the Warp. It was a kill point game and I ended up winning by two points but it feels like a hollow victory as I should have lost this one. Space Wolves 1500 Pts WGBL, Frost Axe, Ass Cannon, Wolf pelt, Runic Charm. Venerbable Dreadnought, Plasma Cannon, Missile Launcher, Extra Armour 4 WGBG, 2 Asscannons, 2 Combiplasmas, Power Sword, 2 Chainfists, Powerfist, Wolf pelts and Runic Charms 6 Grey Hunters, Meltagun, Plasma Pistol, Bolters Razorback with Heavy Bolters 8 Grey Hunters,2 Plasma Pistols, Meltagun, Bolters Rhino APC, Dozer Blade 10 Blood Claws, 2 Power fists Rhino APC, Dozer Blade Attack Bike, Multimelta Vindicator Predator Destructor Necrons 1500 points Lord with Orb and Veil Tomb Spider 20 Warriors 20 warriors 3 Destroyers 10 Scarab Swarms Monolith (Disguised as a Drop Pod) Setup The Space Wolves win the roll off and let the Necrons go first, Von Muller opts to set up his warriors and his lord in the classic necron Phalanx formation with everything else coming on turn 1. I decide to deploy my Rhinos using the woods to cover the flanks and keep everything else in reserve to come on in turn 1. Necron Turn 1 With the rest of his army held in reserve Von Mullers decides to use his veil and teleports one of his large units to try and get behind my Rhinos. He rolls the scatter dice and they appear right next to my Rhino, we then roll on the mishap table and he rolls a 1, Good game..... We decide that this didnt happen and that the warriors just re appear in the exact same spot they left due to some sort of error with the veil. There is no shootin this turn and Von Muller ends his turn. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01841.jpg Space Wolf Turn 1 Screaming from the Heavens my Wolf Guards drop pod slams into the right flank near some ruins the disembark and take up cover. They then let loose with three assault cannons at a warrior unit dropping half a dozen. My Vindicator rolls onto the right flank to support the Wolf Guard while the Razorback and Predator accompany my Ven dreadnought in the centre, my attack bike then whips onto the left flank alone. In a moment of madness I decide to pull my Rhinos back towards the Ruins as I felt they were a little un supported. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01842.jpg Necron Turn 2 The sneaky Von Muller starts by bringing back about 4 of his downed warriors and then decides to bring the rest of his army onto the board making all his reserve rolls. The Scarabs turbo boost towards my Predator covered by the destroyers. His Tomb Spider moves up behind his warriors whilst the Monolith lands right in amongst my Rhinos and near point blank range. The Monolith Shoots his Flux Arc and shakes a Rhino with a Gauss hit, his warriors then open up on the Wolf Guard but only manage to pop a Runic Charm. Space Wolf Turn 2 My Wolf Guard shuffle into better cover and again light up the Necron unit with Assault Cannon fire dropping around 6 again. My Vindi rolls forward six and lets rip dropping another two and putting a wound on the Tomb Spider. I dismount both Rhino units and move the Blood Claws in for an assault on the monster. Knowing that I didnt have the full use of my Meltas I tried to hit it a few times but the shots just bounced off the living armour. I then sent the Blood Claws in head first but the powerfists only managed a few uselss shaken results. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01844.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01845.jpg Necron Turn 3 Again about 75% of the dead Necrons get back up for more thanks to the Res Orb lord. Von Muller advances both of his warrior units into rapid fire range and shifts the Monolith away from the Blood Claws. His warriors again fire at the Wolf Guard and manage to kill one of the bodyguards. Von Mullers second warrior unit fire at my lead Rhino and Glance it to pieces with several immoblised results. The Scarabs then pounce on my Predator covering it in bugs while they begin to disassemble it as if on a factory line. The Destroyers fire at my attack bike and manage to put a wound on it, meanwhile the Monolith stick a Pie plate over the top of my Grey Hunters blasting bits of Space Wolf all over the place leaving two standing. The Two remaining Grey hunters devide to re evalute the situation from further back in the field. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01847.jpg Space Wolves Turn 3 Realising they were running out of Ammo my Wolf Guard decide to advance on the warrior unit in front of them whilst keeping up the barrage of high calibre AC shells. I was now in range with my Combibolters and fire the plasmaguns into the ranks to try and cause mass casualtys, again I only managed to drop 6 or 7. The Vindicator swung around and popped a shot at the Monolith hitting it dead centre but the huge round just bounced off the armoured hide. My attack bike and Dreadnought fired at the Destroyers but failed to land a hit, in the assault phase the Blood Claws charged the Monolith again but only hit once with a power fist which just bounced off. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01843.jpg Necron Turn 4 To keep things rolling all the Necron warriors I had felled decided to get back up and taunt the Wolves. Von Muller teleported his Lords units straight behind the Blood Claws position and this time landed on target. The Lords unit then rapid fired into the Blood Claws stripping the flesh from 7 of the Pups causing panic amongst the rest of the pack who began to flee. The Monolith lined up a shot on the Vindicator and hit the tank with a powerful particle whip shot but it must have been too strong as the shot went straight through the tank and out the other end only causing the crew to be shaken and offering a prayer to the All Father! The Scarabs finished taking the Predator to pieces and with so many glancing hits I lost count. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t119/Zal2885/Space%20Wolves/DSC01846.jpg Space Wolves Turn 4 The last of the Blood Claws re grouped and decided to head for cover along with the Grey Hunters. My Razorback squad dismounted and closed in on the Scarabs whilst the Wolf Guard got into assault Range of the Warrior Unit whilst spraying them with Assault Cannon and Bolter fire. My Vindi moved into cover while the attack bike moved towards the Tomb Spyder. With little else to shoot I charged the Wolf Guard into the warriors and Grey Hunters into the Scarab Swarms. The Wolf Guard battle leader and his men killed about 6 of the Necrons in close combat before they struck back and managed to drop a Terminator, the powerfists then caused anohter 5 casualties. the Necrons had lost the fight but managed to hold fast in combat while over on the other flank my Grey Hunters stamped on a few stands of Scarabs but didnt manage to finsh them off. Necron Turn 5 Von Muller could smell victory as the Wolves were slowly thinning out before his Phalanx seeing an easy target he used his veil again to Teleport behind the Vindicator. the unit landed but scattered directly towards the Vindi bringing the Lord within 1" of it. A roll on the mishap table ended it all for the Necrons as the lord and his unit found themselves deep in the Eye of Terror without a paddle. The Monolith whipped at the last two Grey Hunters but some good cover saves kept them going. In combat the Terminators finshed off the Warriors and the Scarabs dragged down a couple of Grey Hunters in return for a couple of Swarms. Space Wolves Turn 5 With little else to do the Tomb Spider was dropped by a lucky Storm Bolter shot from the Drop Pod and the Grey Hunters killed a couple more Swarms but not enough to kill the unit. We rolled to see if the game went on but we rolled a two and the game ended. Closing Thoughts I should have lost this one in my opinion, my units were battered and I think I would have lost the Vindi if Von Muller hadnt had been so unlucky with his Deep Strike but I guess that is the nature of the beast. My big mistake was Pulling the Rhinos back, I should have gone for a turn 2 or 3 assault on the big unit and chased them off the board with the Blood Claws but as the Necrons say "We'll be back". Wolf89
Space Wolves Turn 3The Vindicator swung around and popped a shot at the Monolith hitting it dead centre but the huge round just bounced off the armoured hide. That's really a shame, last time I faced the necrons, my one vidicator hit and rolled his 2D6 rolling snake eyes, the next turn however I blew the sucker up with a 5/6 then a 6. Good times. The deep striking is a fickle things at times, but two days ago against SoB, I had a unit of seraphim DS behind my vindicator lines, proceeding to blow it up as well as distract half my army to destroy them. Overall good read, nice to have some pics. to go along with the game, and your list is pretty well balanced, only major thing is I'd add in a few storm shield guys in PA as ablative wounds. Vassakov
Hmmm... well despite (or perhaps because) I play Daemons I have little sympathy for the DS mishap table. It's a lethal tactic when it works, but it won't always work and thats that. Sounds like you had a good, if tough game. Have an Ale! DGC
Hail Brother - a win's a win Why do you think they have the last man standing rules - we will fight 'till the last man falls Do you think Russ himself would tell you to go back and try again. No my friend. He would have you learn from the conflict so you can inflict more carnage next time. All leaders had to go through the tests of losing or not getting the best out of thier men, but to learn is what will make you great amongst the stars Know that the watchful eyes of Russ and the Emperor gazed down upon you and they rejoiced that the foul beings were stopped at all. Who can tell what would have happened if you had lost or how many others would have died had the Wolves not stepped into the breach I raise an ale to you brother and take heart, you know that you will avenge your fallen brothers For Russ, for the Emperor, for mankind Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163237-bat-rep-vs-necrons-1500pts/#findComment-1919136 Share on other sites
