Wolf Guard Skald

Recommended Posts

Ok I will be soon starting work on my WGBL and his Terminator Bodyguard, I want one of the fellas to be my Companys Skald like Silvertongue from the Ragnar books. Just wondered if you guys could help me with a brainstorm for some modelling ideas. The first thing that pops into my head is to get him a large leather bound book in which he can chronicle the exploits of my heroes and thier men. one thing is that I'm not sure where to get one from if anyone can point me in the direction for starters as to where to obtain one from.

A Skald wouldn't carry books - he would know all of the sagas by heart and SW write in runes which usually aren't written on paper. Then again SW aren't actually norse so maybe they do use books...

As to the the books the chaplain on a bike has a rather nice leather bound tome but I dunno if you can buy it as bitz or if you have to buy the chaplain.

well i se the skalds (not silvertongue, but a generic skald) being older by far than the other marines... so i'd be tempted to do a pose where he is hunched over and leaning heavily on a staff of some description, maybe with scrolls and such like hanging from his belt... long beard and grizzled face are a must as are plenty of wolf pelts and charms... basically i've just described an idea i've been mulling over for a while for my rune priest... so probably of no real help whatsoever...

oh and check the inquisitor range for big books, you should be able to buy accessory packs with them in

Well modelling him as old is quite good imo.

Also skalds were poets telling the sagas of their kings so i guess a staff of sorts would fit him well and also a parchment,a scroll tube, pouches etc. I'd say the little bits around eisenhorn's image could be used by a skald. Also since he's so old he might have some gifts from the wolf lord or the great wolf like talismans artificer armour (if not artificer in game rules at least way more ornate than normal one imho) also you might want some runes inscribed somewhere they are fun to check upon i use diablo 2 runes and the runewords which had a meaning in game (i have on my wolf priest the "faith" runeword for example)

A Skald with a book is perfectly reasonable... before you sing that epic saga you have to take some research notes so you remember every bloody, contentious detail that might prove important eh?

Theres supposedly a couple of bound books.... but Ill go check aemicus to be sure. Something about the BT upgrade sprue comes to mind.

wasn't she a girl, don't get me wrong, you could pull it off with a good back story, but it seems rather unwolfy to me to include a girl into the wolf army when there are still so many norse gods, but do what you want brother.

Hail Russ, Hail the Allfather,

WWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

A Skald was like a Bard but instead of singing songs and playing lutes they remembered and recalled great sagas and battles. For example Morgrim Silvertongue was Berek Thunderfists company Skald and he was able to quote the exact number of battles Berek had led the company in.

Ideally a closed and bound book so it can hang off his waist, I noticed the Empire Wizard kit had an open book but the only closed book I can find so far is on my Mannfred Von Carstein miniature but it looks rather hard to remove and at £18 a pop rather expsenisve to be messing up. I'm currently working on some drinking horns for the lads as well.

EDIT:- Just noticed the open book in the Dark Angels upgrade sprue as well.

easiest way to get a closed ook is make it your self... 2 squares of plasticard with a lil bit of greenstuff in between, push them together and round off one edge and there you go, book...

alright technically the easiest way is take it off a sprue but hey...
