Khornate daemonic horde (Cybernetic daemon pix up now)

Recommended Posts

I recently read the BL fantasy novel Blood for the Blood God! and loved the story. The main character was the Skulltaker and his imagery inspired me to start a new army... finally! So here are some pictures to share with all you deamon lovers out there!

I wanted a very dynamic look for the Bloodletters so I spent a lot of time working on the bases... otherwise they tend to model up looking like an ape running along the ground. For a 40k theme I have added a lot of rubble to the bases:

It actually took less time to model the Bloodcrusher and he is intended to have the same look and feel as the Bloodletters:

Awesome dynamic poses! Only a couple things to criticize:

-I would rid them of the guns. Daemons wouldn't use fire arms, ESPECIALLY not Khorne daemons

-I would do more with the Skulltaker conversion. I was going to do similar, but used a regular Bloodletter body. Add a Bloodletter head to their Fantasy Champion body.

My version of the Skulltaker is a mortal champion of Khorne with this idea taken from the BL novel I mentioned above. Another Bloodletter riding a juggernaught is not going to work with this theme. I really like the Chaos Lord to be completely honest.

The plasma pistols... Sure the Bloodletters can't shoot them but they could easily be used to club an enemy in close combat though and I believe these bits help bring out the theme. The Skulltaker has a plasma rifle, ammo bags and a couple of grenade lashed onto the back of his mount too. I think they look pretty darn cool and help to make the army stand out in with a 40k theme. :D

Nice looking conversion work, mate. The basing really helps bring out the 40k theme. I tried something similar with my bloodletters. Guitar string is a wonderful thing.

I notice both this thread and the one Plastic_Jack linked to show demons with guns (plasma, melta). Whats the thinking there? Just for the coolness of the posses, some sort of theme idea, or do you have some "counts as" ranged attack you want to take?

Can't speak for Black Orange, but as for mine - it just made sense that daemons would adapt and evolve and adopt new and advanced methods of slaughter, especially in 40k. The flaming daemonic swords make perfect sense in a fantasy setting, but hey... if wholesale slaughter is the desired outcome, I would personally drop the sword and pick up a melta from the battlefield.

I would think that at minimum, daemons have a kind of wolf-like cunning, and they certainly have the requisite thumbs to make use of more advanced weaponry.

I'm just a modeler, though. Not much of a player - so as far as game rules - I was just shooting for a cool looking, decidedly 40k daemon, I suppose just used counting as a standard 'letter. Heresy? I dunno. Just thought they looked neat.
