UK GT Final Reports

Recommended Posts

Well, I will be posting up the battle reps for this (most likely tomorrow), my first tournament final, and I'd just like to say now that, to anyone reading this who i actually got to play, our games were blooming ace - I couldn't have asked for better!

I totally changed up my list from the heat (for those who remember!!!!!) and went with a mech list (the idea was to give me mobility and firepower.

WGBL with TDA, AC, FB, WP

V.dread; pod, HF, AC, EA, SL, pod.

Dread with TLLC

Dread with ML/PC

8 GH (including a WBPL with PF and combi-plasma) with 2PP's, PG, bolters, pod.

6 GH with PP, MG, in a razorback.

8 BC's with PF/PW, rhino.

Pred with AC/HB

Pred with AC/LC's

Vindi with siege shield.

Overall, I went 3 wins, two draws and a loss, which considering the general level of lists and play at the finals, I am mightily chuffed with and got me to 25th out of the 140-odd people there.

More tomorrow! With pics of all games - yeah!!!!!!

Great going - looking forwards to the gory details.

Yep "chuffed" means very satisfied, as opposed to your chuff, which would be called your fanny in US. In UK that name is received for another part of (a women's) anatomy.

<Laughs> I fell foul of this one because in my region of the UK it means that you are pleased but I worked away for a few weeks once and made the comment at work. It obviously meant something else to the people I was working with.....

But to get back on topic I cant wait to see your Pics and bat rep mate.

Hope you not forgotten us & this UKGT report. It's unhead of a Space Wolve not telling a story of epic battles, it as much unheard of as to think what heinous crime an Ultramarine must commit to be banished to the Eye of Terror. When they turn left instead of right on the parade ground? Forget to say there prayers in the morning?

IP

Lol, no, I've been sooooooooo busy with work and my new gf, this is the first time I've actually come into the fang in ages!

However, by tomorrow, I shall have some reports for you! Either that, or ales all round and i'm off to the eye for a bit of Russ hide and seek.

NR :tu:

Well, its taken me a very long time to get myself the time to write all of these up – hope you enjoy my account of the UKGT finals!

BATTLE 1 – CHAOS

The first game of the weekend saw us using a pitched battle deployment, with secure ground and 3 counters. My opponent was a really nice guy named Guillermo (I think he was Spanish, and I hope I spelt that correctly!?) whose English was a little patchy, but in all honesty, the game went massively smoothly and I really enjoyed it. Anyhow! He had:

Abbadon the Despoiler (Eeeek!)

10 Khorne Bezerkers with Icon; I think the AC had a PF?

10 Marines, two meltaguns, AC with powerfist, Icon of Khorne.

6 Daemons

2 Obliterators

2 Obliterators

Daemon Prince with Lash and wings.

Land Raider

Basically, Abbadon and friends rush up in a Land Raider and try and kick seven shades of hell out of you whilst a Lash prince and friendly oblits add to the fun.

DEPLOYMENT

I won the roll for first turn and chose to go first – I wanted every chance to take out that LR asap. Everyone deployed in a huddle in the centre of the board, with my Vindicator and Predators deployed in a shield of AV13 in front of everyone else. My opponent deployed everything opposite me, slightly to the left, with Abbadon and the bezerkers in the LR, marines to their left in some ruins with one set of oblits behind the LR, and one pair on the far right to snipe at my tanks’ sides. The daemons and DP were deep striking.

The counters were spread in a line across the middle of the table – one in front of the ruins on the left (in the open), one in the centre area terrain, and one in the open on the right.

My opponent elected not to steal the initiative. Game on!

TURN 1:

Everything in my arsenal opened fire on the Land raider, moving a little to let the BC’s rhino past to move down my left flank. However, to my utter frustration, I only managed to stun the bugger. Then, up stepped the Vindicator – scattered 4”, penetrating hit, wrecked! Woooooooop. Sadly, no-one was injured in the LR’s destruction.

I also brought down the GH squad and WGBL next to the far-left oblits, and managed to kill one with their firepower.

In the Chaos turn, he moved the pairs of obliterators up to snipe at my tanks, but their fire did nothing. The marines on foot moved out the ruins and ran towards one of the objectives. Abba and his bezerkers moved and ran into the central area terrain piece.

This is the battle in the picture below!

TURN 2 (game at this point shown in pic):

gallery_22897_3454_606703.jpg

I didn’t get Loki down (he has definitely earned his name over the years) and so continued my manoeuvring. The BC’s rhino moved 12” and popped its smoke launchers, ending up on the hill in the bottom left. My vindicator moved up and launched a shell into the central bezerker squad, whilst the rest of the tanks and dreads split their fire between the oblits, marines and bezerkers. I killed five bezerkes, an oblit at the back and a few marines from the in-the-open squad this turn.

In the far right corner, I foolishly rapid-fired the GH squad at the last oblit there, but only managed to wound him once – I couldn’t assault. Doh!!!!!!!

Guillermo moved Abaddon out from the squad this turn, in an effort to get to the Vindicator, running him in my direction. The bezerkers stayed put, and the marines on the left moved back to their cover. Shooting saw my dakka-pred stunned by the last oblit on the right, who ignored the GH squad.

TURN 3:

My Dread arrived, and I put him on the objective on the left, where he could flame and AC the marine squad. The vindicator reversed 6” from Abaddon and the dakka pred moved in his way, so I could keep the vindicator alive! Everyone else stayed put! I decided at this point that Abba was moot; he might kill a tank, but that would leave him out of position to get everything else for at least a turn, and my main concern was taking out the scoring units.

Sadly, my shooting was pretty dire, this turn. My vindicator killed another 2 bezerkers with a scattering shot, the Dread killed 3 marines on the left, I failed to kill the oblit at the back on the left, but the squad on the right finally got their man whilst moving towards the objective on the right.

The Chaos turn saw the Lash-prince and daemons arrive. The daemons went central, to cover the objective that Chaos held there, whilst the lash prince arrived just in front of my armoured huddle in the middle – and lashed my squad 10” away from the objective! I hate that power.

Abbadon ran towards the huddle, and the chaos marine squad charged my Venerable dreadnought (their Meltaguns only shook him). He killed three, but lost his PF in the combat.

TURN 4:

The BC’s rhino moved up 12” to grab the objective there, ready to counter-charge the marine squad if they got past the dread. Everything else turned to shoot the daemon prince, and by the end of the turn it only had one wound left. I split the WGBL and the GH’s from each other, and ran them both towards the objective with the aim of at least AC’ing the prince if the squad got lashed again next turn.

Sadly, I tried to move the GH squad’s razorback through the woods towards the far right objective and immobilised it!!!! Bugger. I made a big mistake here, and got the GH’s out of the rhino to run them.

The combat between the dread and marines saw him kill another few (!!), losing his AC in the process.

In the chaos turn, the prince managed to lash the razorback GH’s through my wrangle of tanks, and got them all in assault range of Abbadon and the prince.

Surprisingly, they all died (bravely, I’m sure.) The combat between the Dread and marines saw it brought down to just the dread and the PF champion.

TURN 5

My dreads all moved around abaddon, whilst the WGBL moved towards the DP in the centre. The squad on the right moved towards the objective, but were about 5” away and would need another turn to get there.

Shooting saw me kill the last of the bezerkers, who had snuck out their area terrain to head towards the Dread and pod. I also managed to kill the DP and the last oblit on the board. And that was my turn!

Chaos saw abba charge and blow up the las-pred. The dread and AC did no damage to each other, and that was that!

We rolled for the next turn and it came up a one!

I had the left objective, his daemons had the central one, and my right hand squad was 5” away from the right-hand one. Draw!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Well, that game was massively fun.

I was very pleased with the army in what was actually only my second outing with it in its current version! The firepower that I had in the list was really useful here, allowing me (with a little luck) to take out the LR and then pick off everything else.

Abbadon was a pain, but something that I had to just suck-up and ignore, as he is just so hard to kill that my shooting him would have been wasted, IMHO.

I wish we had got to another turn, but such is life, and Guillermo played a great game.

So, just like my heat, I had drawn the first game, which I was quite pleased with - it would put me about half-way up the rankings and hopefully, I wouldn’t face anything too horrible!

Thanks for reading!
