mughi3 Posted March 16, 2009 Share Posted March 16, 2009 Got a buddy of mine building a sternguard heavy crimson fist list. He wanted to try it out so i put my SOB up to the challenge. Some of his stuff was proxied and he had to borrow some of my stuff but we got it done. Game- points-2,000 kill points- (he started with 10, me with 11 so it was pretty close) deployment 12" His list- cantor sicarius X2 tack squads with melta/las X2 sternguard squads with combie meltas, heavy flamers in drop pods land raider redeemer .assault terminator squad My list- cannones with gear karamozov eversore assassin inquisitor with gear and land raider prometheus transport. X2 sisters squads melta/flamer in repressors X1 retributor squad X2 exorcists http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/SOB2k.jpg I won first turn, moving karamozov forward where he could do some good. flanked left with a repressor into the hills and positioned everybody else for shooting. the exorcists went for the land raider and did nothing, the retributors and prometheus went after the tac squad to my right and killed a few. His land raider shoots forward, he decides not to drop pod assault. he fires ineffectively at my land raider.his other tac squad moves forward. karamozov moves up and attempts to melt the raider but rolls the magic 1 to hit. and fails to grab it in CC. exorcists also try to shoot it. retributors and land raider continue to fire at tac squad, even using AP1 faith they still survive. the repressor on my left rolls over the hill and reduces the other tac squad by over half. the assassin comes in on the left as well but he is to far away to get into the fight. His terminators and HQs get out and assault karamozov and kill him, the redeemer tries to flame the retributors but their faith is strong (3+ invul saves!) The fist sternguard unit drop and try but fail to get the repressor to the left flank as it had smoked. he shoots and assaults the sisters to my left. they hold for 2 turns allowing the assasin to get in and finish the marines off. Game is tied at turn 3 1 KP to 1 KP. I continue to fire into the tac squad on my right, reducing it to 1 marine. which then hides to save the KP. my assassin tries to stop the sternguard to my right and manage to take them down to 1 before exploding in all his glory. the sisters to the right move up and fire with faith into the terminators but fail to kill much. the sisters subsequently get eaten by terminators only 2 survive and they break and run with a roll of 11 and with my faith gone the redeemer kills all but 1 sister in the retributor squad. The second sternguard unit drops in on top of my raider and melts it, the bottom of turn 4 sees both repessors, the land raider and 2 sisters units destroyed. Leaving me with the exorcists, 3 sisters the inquisitor and the cannones.......... What a turn around that was............. Having the game turn on it's head like that left me with little chance of victory. the remaining sisters try to melt the pod on my left and fail. the exorcist to my left shoots at it and also fails. the one on the right goes after the terminators taking them down to 1 + cantor and sicarius. the cannoness and inquisitor charge the sternguard on my right. the inquisitor dies to failed armor saves but the cannoness stands for another turn. Game goes to 6- the sternguard on my right that survives the assassin power fists my exorcist while cantor and sicarius stun and then destroy the one to my right. the sternguard to my left finish off the cannoness an the redeemer gets all but 1 sister near the pod on my left..... The lone hiding tac marine on my right comes out of the building and rapid fires the sister and she dies....... I got completely tabled, after more than half a game of almost nothing dying. FYI I'm prettu sure according to the drop pod assault rule he MUST deploy 1/2 of his pods (rounding up) on the first time. In the future, can you try and post the pics in the spot where they are taken? It was tough for me to visualize where the pictures were taken during the battle. WarriorFish Posted March 16, 2009 Share Posted March 16, 2009 I don't think you had good odds with those lists, even so you managed to survive most of the game before getting tabled so I'd say well done for that! There's not much else to say, sadly - other than good luck in repaying the favour in a rematch! I'd also like to say that I have no problem with SCs, especially not "counts as", but whenever someone turns up with two of them - and from different "parent" Chapters to boot... yeah. Oh well, at least it wasn't He'stan again. That counts for something right? Anyway, a nice batrep as always mughi - I like reading them! Though I have a couple of requests; can you put the pictures next to the appropriate turn text so it flows better, and I'd also like to see some close up shots of the action! Since the tale of the assassin's fight comes more alive if you can see how it looked on the table too! mughi3 Posted March 16, 2009 Author Share Posted March 16, 2009 OK i was going more for speed here, i was at the game store for something like 20 hours and played two 40K games, a long B5 game, a battletech game, and a game of infinity. with batreps to write for each and recovery time(sleep) i wasn't that focused on closeups and such, although i will admit it's the first game the eversore actually performed for me nearly taking out 2 squads by himself. karamozove making 8 out of 9 4+ invul saves in the first round of CC was fun to...although the one he failed was a thunder hammer which made him go I1 and die horrible in the next CC round. The list was made for competative play so i don't have a problem with him taking both characters, it makes for a tough list. not any harder than double lash or nidzilla builds.
