My take on Grimtuff's Dognought

I didn't mean to infer that the tail should be anotomically correct. I mentioned the similarity with a servo skull. I just meant the current length made it look more feline than canine. It wouldn't be providing any balance or emotional manifestations like that of a real canine. It could be part of a communicative function like an antenna array of sorts or just be like that similar part of a servo skull. Possibly an extension to the exhaust system from the powerplant.

Maybe leaving the individual links visible (whether you expand them or not) and draping pelts or applying fur to it's sides for appearence sake. Another possibility would be modelling it as a banner pole and attaching a front facing vertially hung banner and maybe even adding a flag waving behind as well. Not only visible to ones enemies, but visible to those on either flank to embolden them to press the attack. Dreads can have banner poles, why not consider the option.

Anotomical correctness shouldn't necessarily be your focus with this particular appendige. It is a Dognaugh, a Dreadnaught resembling the form of a Canid. Resemblence isn't necessarily an accurate portrayal it is a a shape of form that resembles the intended. I wasn't nor did I mean to sound like I was trying to bust your balls or picking nits over your design. I am quite impressed with it actually and look forward to it eventual completion. I was just offering a different perspective as I know sometimes doing my own projects, I am often too close to it to see anything else.

Hey Growler67, no offence taken in any way, and by your last remark it is obvious that we think along the same lines. I openly ask for critiques and it wouldn't be the first (or last) time I have changed something even after spending time trying to get it right based on a suggestion from someone else.

As I said I will look at how the thicker part of the wraiths tail mounts up and after looking at wolf bones on the net I am inclined to agree it is too long. Lets see how things go with blending pairs of vertabrae together as I am not hot on adding any fur to it or a banner

Man, DGC, your Wolfnought is looking awesome! I would hate to see that thing on the table if I were fighting against your army!

Watching the WN's evolution through this thread has been really entertaining, and I must say that what you have now is head and shoulders above what you started out with initially. Totally awesome!

Don't forget to show the magnetized plasma cannons some love too... ;)

This model is simply breath taking. I love the tail but might have to agree with it needing a bit more "meat" as to say it seems a little off place on this big behemoth. I cannot wait to see it painted up. I have read through this and was wondering is this more of a diorama piece or something you are taking to the table top or both? keep up the good work brother.

I absolutely love that model! I have to say though, that I'm not a huge fan of the new tail. It looks very ratty. Maybe if you took some inspiration from some images like these:

I have managed to steal some time for the beast and got some work done on the tail. The armour plates are made from filed and trimmed Rhino track links, the top detail is made from smoke launcher tubes and strip styrene. I also added some styrene rod for tubing and some clips made from half-round strip styrene. The links are mounted directly on top of the wraith's tail and the rod is glued in the gap between. I mention this as the picture makes it look like the are way above them (dam Macro-mode), it looks alot better in the real world.

The mounting to the body is from a bit left over from the assault cannonnons with a lifting ring on top. I think this has beefed it up enough, but as always your comments are always welcome

Still need some readies for some Thousand sons for the base though

I LOVE the twin AC's immensely. I might've found a way to place the ejection ports more visibly (sides rather than rear facing) but again a very minor thing.

Growler67, I hope this shows them a bit better. They should be thrown well clear - hopefully

Now I really must get on with painting my WGBL

'Til next time
