Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
I asked the question first young pup. 0b :) then your answer is simple: NO. to think otherwise would bring shame upon the wolves of fenris. to make the answer more difficult: NO all psychic powers are derived from the warp, ranging from those by eldrad ulthuan to the allfather himself. the warp can push you in various directions, but only by your choice can you become corrupted by its use. BLACK BLΠFLY
Yes but supposedly this power did not come about until with the Eye, hence my curiousity. 0b  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163294-wolf-at-the-door/page/2/#findComment-1986495 Share on other sites
Max_Dammit
I think gating came about as a necessity, ships get destroyed and thunderhawks to, in the end only troops remain and they have to get to new places, a rune priest would think up this ability and could make it so if he wishes, its the way the warp works in my eye Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163294-wolf-at-the-door/page/2/#findComment-1986507 Share on other sites
BLACK BLΠFLY
Then 13th Company Rune Priests are very powerful indeed. I just don't see why this would not occur until journeying into the Eye while a Space Marine librarian can also cast this power. Max_Dammit
yeah, now they can, now that the 13th has left the eye on a field trip, all those smurfs go :Oooooooh thats nice, wonder if i can do the same :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163294-wolf-at-the-door/page/2/#findComment-1986549 Share on other sites
clanfield
id like to add to the broth about a big diferance between a librian and a rune priest ,were as librians channel the power of the warp through themselves, rune priest's use there rune's as a focus thus distanceing themselves from the warp by no small amount ,it makes sense to me that the warp has a lesser effect upon them because of this practice Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163294-wolf-at-the-door/page/2/#findComment-1986659 Share on other sites
BLACK BLΠFLY
It's funny how smurf players have not figured out how to capitilize on our old tactics. I guess they love their combat squads too much. 0b :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163294-wolf-at-the-door/page/2/#findComment-1986929 Share on other sites
Beef
It's funny how smurf players have not figured out how to capitilize on our old tactics. I guess they love their combat squads too much. 0b <_< Maybe thats why we dont get the snazzy super pycher powers that most codex chapters use. Some chapters readilt embrace their pycher (spp) brothers whilst SW are still in awe and a little unnerved by them. As for the gate its only a power that manifested in the 13th company Rune priest as Max_Dammit stated due to nesseity. If it was a power used pre heresy than the Rune priest of todays SW would still know how to use it. No doubts being in the eyes has made the Rune priest of the 13th company even stronger and better able to channel the powers of the Warp. No doubts some would have gotten corrupted or had a demon take them but those are the risks all Rune priest/psychers take. The Wulfen would not succumb to chaos as its a defence against it usually. thats not to say they become so animialistics that they would not kill their own battle brothers. Hence the need for a wolf priest to keep them in check. somebody who is so strong willed he can keep them in check. Think of it like that guys cesar the dog wisperer. He is the Wolf priest and the dogs around him the Wulfen. Even though he is a little guy you see the way he controls some big bad ass dogs just by his shear presence. SeanyPrawny
That guy freaks me out, all he needs is a pointy hat and I' be sure he's a wizard! I agree that gate is all due to the 13th. Only after they came out out the eye for a little rest did the others see how cool the ability was and made it their own. Vash113
The short story isn't introducing Bullveye and Jorin couldn't come later as Bullveye has already made an appearance in the final Blackmane novel Wolf's Honour. It's also not necessarily a Retcon, Bullveye in Wolf's Honour was only leading a fraction of the Company and it's possible that such was the case pre-heresy, secondly while no Wulfen as we know of them in the 41st Millenium were present, that doestn't mean they didn't exist in the 13th or that such is a retcon either. It's not entirely clear whether the Space Wolves used fully transformed Wulfen at all or not, as it's entirely possible for Marines succumbed to the Mark of the Wulfen to hold the transformation at bay indeffinitely and that may have been the case with the members of the 13th till they chased the Thousand Sons into the eye. Also no the Rune Priests are not corrupted, neither is gate necessarily just a random manifestation, it is actually according to Wolf's Honour most likely a trick the Rune Priests learned from their time fighting the Thousand Sons. Why all Chapters now have similar abilities is beyond me, but I personally think Mat Ward and his gross and despicable Ultramarines mega-bias is to blame. <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163294-wolf-at-the-door/page/2/#findComment-1987273 Share on other sites
clanfield
isnt sternhammer a wolf priest .... so bulvi is the company lord Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163294-wolf-at-the-door/page/2/#findComment-1987696 Share on other sites
Beef
Yes sternhammer is a wolf priest and yes Bullvey is a 13th company Wolf lOrd but that does not make him the only Wolf Lord of the 13th company. I did not even relise the New codex marines get the Gate power. :cuss, How did they manage to learn it so quick. Unless Matt ward is actually Tzench and the Ultras are a 1000 son offshoot ;) Actually maybe Ventri after spending so much time in the eye of terror came back to macragge with a few tricks he picked up Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163294-wolf-at-the-door/page/2/#findComment-1988072 Share on other sites
Grimtooth
There is a vast difference between being able to gate anywhere on a battlefield and up to 24" on a battlefield. I will gladly keep my anywhere gate for my 13th Co rune priest. BLACK BLΠFLY
Thanks for the valuable feedback on the 13th Company. I have learned quite a bit about one of my favorite armies reading some of the posts here. 0b ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163294-wolf-at-the-door/page/2/#findComment-1988314 Share on other sites
