10 DW Ven Dreads soon to be 15

What I like about this lot is the amount of characterisation you cram into these models, in a strange way they've become kinda human. My favourites so far are the Mortis autos – they just look awesome en masse. The pose of the FW Ven to be the Libbie looks a bit awkward, maybe it's the body to legs twist and angle that is just a bit too extreme.

Commander Remiel:

Actually I haven't even gotten to applying them to the model yet. Though your right they do look like something ready to be broken. Because of that I'm rethinking the storage/transportation medium to be used. Have thought of leaving them off, but they really do make the Dread more unique.

Ah! I got mine from eBay so I did not know they came separate when shipped from FW. that previous owner attaching them!

I like what you have done to make them all individual. While I do not have as many (only 8 right now), I will definitely be looking at yours for some ideas. I already have plans to use REMs on the arms to allow swapping of weapons.

Actually the Sarcophagus of the FW Dreads are not yet attached to the legs, can be quite a balancing act, on the Libbie Dread that was the only pose I could get without the top toppling off, the socket is too shallow, I'll need to drill it out when I get around to mounting it to the legs.

Am working on the PC Dreads and the Chappi right now. I should have them finished next week some time.

Thanks for the feedback

15 ?!? :) And I thought I was goin over the top with 6 ;) Only done 2 so far, but I have plans for the remaining 4.... although that could rise now <_<

Mine are all going to be FW Dreads, they're just too cool. Just wish they're do a MKIV Ironclad.

Nice work so far. I especialy like some of the poses you have done. Look forward to seeing them all finished.

Got the basic paint down on the three PC/Dreads:

Now I'm wondering about a couple of things.

1) The Plasma Cannon Core. Am thinking of some muli hued blue green. but I'm not sure how to pull that off.

2) And the big one are the, Skulls & Bones, and Wings on the Chappi. Am thinking of a Bleached Bone over the Chestnut wash over the Skulls & Bones. And the same on the Wings with a Skull white highlight.

3) The Chappi, and soon the Dread Commander, and Libbie, are all getting Burnished Gold on their metals, with a final highlight of Shinning Gold.

Have to take a break, and I'll get back to them next week.

for the glow, i'd suggest a really reaally watered down wash of green

then a even more watered down wash of blue after the first has dried, and then build back up to white again, for the coils.

i'd test it out first on some spare sprues though to make sure you've got it covered.

I'm back.

Been working on more than my Dreads. And I am at a new place with the painting.

Here is where I'm at with the new stuff... Plasma Coils, and heavy detail on the Chappi.

Chappi R side:

Chappi Front:

Here is what I've still to do. And I need your help... Chaplin Dreadnaught, and the Plasma Coils.

The PC's are a Snot Green wash, with a Hideous Blue wash on top, not bad, but not great.

On the Chappi you can see the I've used a watered down Burnished Gold on all the metal pieces w/ chestnut wash on the PC/DCCW. Legs, feet and trim will be highlighted with a shining gold mix. But the quandary is the Wings, Skulls & Bones, and the Purity Seals. they all started with a Chestnut Wash. Then I tried a DA Bleached Bone & Skull White dry brush wash over the top. came out too muddy.

I want the Wings to pop out and still be able to see the Purity Seals. I'm happy with the Skulls and bones though.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks

Ok i just spotted this thread and its, well, i dont know lets let smilys describe what i cant

say  :woot: :turned: ;) :jaw:

So you want c and c on the chap dread i say good job so far but the plasma cells could use a wash of blue, the wings a wash of brown and then a bone drybrush.

Next:

Here are the Plasma Dreads, led by the Chappi. I spent an ungodly amount of time trying to get the front Wings perfect. Finally had to just stop and go with what I had. I'm more of a player than painter anyway and I want to put these bad boys on the table.

Now I've only six 3X MM, 3X AC Dreads left to do.

On a side note, you'll notice the Chappi does not have the Spikey Halo attached. It was missing when I got the Model from FW last Jan, so I decided to add the DA Icon thingy. Now on the upside FW has finally got the Halo to me, but it looks terrible mounted in front of the DA Icon, and I don't trust my lets break it off skills. I'll add it to the MM Libie FW Dread instead.

Chappi Right Side:

I'll get to the bases when all 15 Dreads are done.

Haha indeed as you say, great minds thin alike brother! ( Also did a big scroll om my chappi plasma :P )

Looking awesome with the heap of tin-cans walking around B) And I agree, the wings can be a pain in the @$$ to get right, I stripped mine and re-did him since I wasnt happy with it. Woring on him right now actually.

Me thinks that possible summer-1st com-apoc game is looking sweeter by the second ( or should I say by the dreadnought ).

Keep going, more dead guys wanting paint!! :)

humm... Break all that up into three 5-dreadnought groups and attach a Tech-marine in full servo-harness with attached servitors to each 'formation' and call it three 'Ancient's Formations' for Apocalypse battles. Heck, if you have the money... go for FIVE servo-harness tech-marines and servitors and field FIVE Formations of 3 dreadnoughts each.

For my own army, I currently have 7 dreadnoughts of various types, and plan on adding 4 more soon. NOT including the chaplain and librarian dreads I'd like to add as well. This, obviously will be an over-large Ancients force, so even though I have ONE tech-marine in full servo-harness with full servitor retinue, I plan to add two more tech-marines and more servitors to be able to split the resulting 13 down into three groups for apocalypse battles.

Since the theme of my army is 'lions', the combat servitors are modified cybercat figures from another line of models that have been modified to add mechandrite tails, heavy weapons, and other 'bits' to make them look more like GW models.

Just my thoughts,

Rymeer

I defiantly have the Ancients Assault Force in mind.
