My Crimson Fists (Pic Heavy)

Long time browser, first time poster here. I finally talked myself into getting some pictures of the Crimson Fists army i'm currently working on. Don't have any WIP shots so will just have to make due with the finished result.

First up is my scout squad:

Next up is some of my Sternguard Vets. I have used some of the actual Sternguard models and then filled in with old space marine vets i've had sitting around. One is all plastic and a few others will be by the time i'm done.

Here is my first Tac squad.

The special weapon marines in each squad have all the special weapon options magnetized incase I get sick of how they are equipped.

Here is Tac squad 2.

More to come as I get it done. C&C always welcome.

Very Nice! Have to ask...how long did it take you to get that far? I've just started a CF army myself and it's going pretty slow for me right now.

Also, how did you do the bases, they look really good.

Love to see more!

Joe

It didn't take as long as I first imagined. I'm involved in a league at my LGS and we step it up by 250 points every month. We started at 500 so that was the roughest to get done quickly. The bases were pretty quick and dirty. My SOB are also on city bases, but were not painted the same way. These were simply some sand, small shale chips, and random bitz box fodder. A few of them have those resin pieces from that GW basing kit. The paint was just Adeptus Battlegrey, washed with Badab Black, washed with Delven Mud, and then slight drybrush of Adeptus again.

i love the fists how you did them here... but as i look at your models one question continues to burn at me wondering the answer... the sarge with the fist in the air standing on the broken statue who is that. and how did you get em? i see so many with the model and wish i had one but i don't know where he is from and all.
though i think that the tac squad guy jumping over the rubble, while really creative, looks disproportionate. it may have been the angle, but the arm looks too thin and too long.

All I did was alter the angle of the arm and did a hand swap to the rocket launder hand. I believe the angle just makes it appear to be too small.

P.S. could you write your recipe for the blue,it's the perfect shade I was looking for my DIY chapter, please?!

The blue is actually really simple.

3:1 Regal Blue to Midnight Blue

Highlight with 50/50 Regal to Ultramarine

Unfortunately they don't make Midnight Blue anymore. When I heard that they were discontinuing it, I bought up the 3 pots my LGS had left. I have found that Necron Abyss will work, but you have to play with the ratio a bit to get to match.

By the end of the weekend, expect pictures of my Master of the Forge, Venerable Dread, and Assault Termi squad.

Ok, big update time as promised. Here are several new pictures of stuff I couldn't get around to photographing the other day.

Master of the Forge:

I'm pretty pleased with the way he turned out. I particularly like the auspex in his hand and the detail I managed to get out of it. It was quite a challenge getting all those buttons painted like gems. The red is blended better from darker to lighter than in the picture. The lamps i'm using seem to really really brighten up the red and kill a lot of the detail. I'll have to play with my camera settings to see if I can correct it.

My Dreadnought:

The lights also seemed to kill the highlighting on the gold a bit so just bear in mind that the gold really doesn't look that flat in real life. I'm really pleased with the banner as it was my first attempt at really doing anything much with a banner besides a number or little design. If I had to go back and so something to him, I would probably add some text written on his shins or upper arms to break up the big flat blue areas.

My Assault Terminators:

These have been my pride and joy to paint. I loved pretty much every minute of converting these and painting them up. I'm dubbing the unit the Knights of Dorn and my fluff for them is that they are Pedro Cantor's personal bodyguard and take the field with him always. I'll be working on my Cantor model in the future. Stay tuned for more Crimson Fists stuff to come.
