Ragner Blackmane
Hi again I was wondering wat models you use for your fenris wolves cause I can't choose any good models ? Also I was thinking of using the warg riders for LOTR as bikers and converting space wolves onto their as I want to try and make them look different. BTW if someone has already done this then tell me cause then I'll either look at their forum or do a different thing to make them different. THANX <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163604-what-do-you-use/ Share on other sites
LPetersson
This thread has a lot of good advice and pictures: http://preview.tinyurl.com/cascn5 The idea of Space Wolf wolf riders instead of bikers is darned good, although maybe a bit hard to justofy the 'turbo Boost' rule <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163604-what-do-you-use/#findComment-1923206 Share on other sites

Ryzouken
The most common model used for Fenrisian Wolves is the Warhams Fantasy Dire Wolves from the Vampire Counts range (I think). You can get them in blister packs of two for 10.00 USD (IIRC) The only recommendation I'd make is, do a base swap/model the included bases to be round to fit in with the 40k aesthetic, though you don't need to. Didacsoy
Here are some pics of two of my wolves. They are the plastic goblin ones with the Dire Wolves' heads (Vampire Counts army). I liked the meaner look of this heads better than the goblin version. I got them when you could order the bitz separately, so I got them for cheap, but if you know a Vampire Counts player, maybe you can strike some kind of swap deal. Just see how good they look even with a pretty basic paint job (not that I'm capable of anything better, mind you  ): Close-up of the wolves: They usually acompany my wolf priest, shown for size comparison purposes: There are a lot of other cool wolf models aout there, but these are easy to get, not too expensive and legal for tournament play. Do you like them? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163604-what-do-you-use/#findComment-1923387 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
Ive got four Reaper "Warmaster" warhounds... wich look like wolves with a lil bit of tac on them... like a service dog really. Theyre not as big as the fantasy ones, but I like them. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163604-what-do-you-use/#findComment-1923398 Share on other sites
TAVAAR
I use a combination of Vampire Counts Dire wolves, Goblin Wolf Rider wolves (for the "younger wolves") for my HQ's that aren't Lords. Then I use some reaper wolf things (not sure what its called specifiacally) for the "older wolves" for my Wolf Lords. It make the unit more recognizable and stands out a lot more on the field (AS THEY SHOULD, THEY'RE WOLF LORDS). SeanyPrawny
I use wargs. Kinda makes it easier for me to accept the prospero burns cover with those 2 wolves too lmao. Skirnir Ragefang
Ugh, don't use the Warg riders those things are ugly like the backside of a thousand son. They also don't look anything like wolves. The GW wolves are slightly better but not that great either. I'd recommend searching for a Wolf pack blister from reaper. I use one myself and the wolves look really cool. Here are some picks http://www.fantasyladen.de/reaper/darkheav...s/2800/2830.jpg If you can get your hands one Gamezone minis you should definitely go for the wolves their Goblins ride http://www.fantasyladen.de/gamezone/04-11.jpg http://www.fantasyladen.de/gamezone/04-36.jpg http://www.fantasyladen.de/gamezone/04-21.jpg I like my wolves looking somewhat like actual wolves, not like the monstrosities GW and New line cinema produced Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163604-what-do-you-use/#findComment-1923487 Share on other sites
Bran Scalphunter
Wargs from the GW line are closest to hyenas (hence why I use them in D&D for my Gnoll Characters) and entirely unsuitable for use as Fenrisian Wolves. The Wolves from Goblin Wolf Rider boxes are the best produced by GW, so I use them. That and adding the riders as foot troops to WAAAGH! IRONFANG! WAAAGH! is a extra bonus. I'd like to get the Reaper guys, but that means I'd have to find a use for 15 or so rider-less Goblin Wolves. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163604-what-do-you-use/#findComment-1923497 Share on other sites
Ryzouken
Dire Wolves might have been from the goblin line, I'm not familiar with fantasy. The only caveat to remember, is that GW official tournies require a % of GW mini under all that paint and whatnot (or an original green sculpt) Now obviously, no one is going to bust your models open to check, but it is something to remember.
