Collected Visions is really worthy?

Recommended Posts

I ask cause I really don't dig that 2nd ed style artwork, and artbooks are pricey. Are those text tidbits cool enough? There's art that give more insight on "unseen" 40K things? I believe there's Sisters Of Silence and Custodes despicted there. There is really exclusive artwork there?

Your thoughts.

Its the leading visual source on the Horus Heresy for one thing! A large percentage of Pre-heresy forces which are around have been influenced directly by the ideas and artwork in this book - so, I would say even if you aren't a fan of the many artwork styles in the book, for this alone its worth it!

Fluff-wise, the Horus Heresy book series is roughly following the events in Collected Visions, almost down to the letter (certainly nothing so far has been directly contradictory). The reason for this is that the author of Collected Visions, Alan Merret, is also one of the major influential factors upon the team of writers working on the BL Horus Heresy series. So, if you want to find out the course of events as they are going to happen, its well worth a read! :)

Personally, I love these books, and I think even if the artwork isn't your thing no fan of pre-heresy events should be without them!

I have to agree. Ocassionally GW/black library makes a really great book (Think of the ian watson novel Space Marine but for artwork) that in later years is going to be looked back on as a classic of the hobby, the HH artbook is one of them.

I'd get it while you still can- GW has a confused policy on what it keeps in print and what it chooses to reprint later on....you can never be sure that GW will reprint something even if it's popular.

Loads, there's a good panoramic one that has sisters of silence warriors on one side of the emperor and custodes on the other.

Is there is really exclusive artwork there?

IIRC there is some additional info and some pics but, the collected visions is, as the name suggests a compilation of all the art and info from all the individual HH artbook volumes and although it is pricey it's cheaper than getting all the individual volumes when they were out, it's a hardback book and it's quite substantial in pages.

Hope that helps

so far your questions as to what are there have been answered, but its worth is merely the opinion of the owner...

but this time i completely agree with everything said. the Collected Visions book is amazing, and fills in details on certain things that have been ignore or glossed over so far.

i would go so far as to say it is a must have for any fan of the Horus Heresy.

and i hate john blanche's art. i wish his fingers would break so he could never draw again. but luckily alot of the Sabertooth art from the w40k ccg is there, as well as single pieces to show gamers that good art dos happen even when blanche is involved.

I too must agree with everyone else on this topic. It is a must have for anyone who is a fan of the Horus Heresy fluff or 40k fluff in general. It also goes into more detail about the Kabal Machine from Mechanicum. Worth every penny IMHO.
I recently bought a copy. It really is worth every penny. I particularly like the artwork depicting the Custodes. However, if you're a fan of the Iron Hands, White Scars, Raven Guard, Dark Angels, or Ultramarines don't expect to see much of your chapter. Still an awesome book though.

No, but thats a little understandable - The Iron Hands and Raven Guard's only real role within the heresy was to receive a might ass-wopping at the hands of the treacherous Horus. Same too with the Ultramarines at the hands of the Word Bearer's (although it was only through their potency that they didn't get wiped off the map altogether)

The Dark Angels are going to be kept in the closet.

As for the White Scars, they did play a pretty important role in the seige of Terra, so I guess they could have had a bit more of a part in the books

I bought thje originals when they first came out and they were worth the £15 each i paid for the four books. Ok the 4th was not as good as it did not contain so much art work but more of the cards the system was built for. the fluff in the books is awsome. Definatly worth buying
Collected Visions is GREAT. One of my favorites of the 40k resource books I have.

I completely agree, it is a GREAT book (although there are minor caption inconsistancies) but it is an excellent book, probably the best source for any type of space marine artwork youwill get your hands on.

Plus its cooler because its Pre-heresy. B)

It's a great book, I haven't read much of it though. I've mostly flicked through the pictures and read about parts of the Heresy I wasn't familiar with (like the Blood Angels fighting the daemons before getting to Terra). My girlfriend loves it too, she wants to draw all the IA pictures at the start (so far she's done the Iron Warrior and the World Eater- which looks great as she used colour B)).
