Rizara
hey guys. Been getting motivated again on painting an army For the past year its been really lackluster. been tryign to stay focued on 40k but its really hard to keep any motivation at all when your either stuck at home or working and not really getting to play. Anyways, been dabbling with dawn of war 2 a little, and gotta say, i am really liking the worn armor/battle dmg look of the marines more than the clean brand new armor look. So i am looking into finally getting around and revamping my old celtic marine army, and i thought going with a weathered battle scared look to the armor would keep it much more interesting. My only problem is i cant find a good tutorial on this anywhere. I have found some weathering tutorials and some links for battle dmg pics on vehicles, but nothing that really gives me any good ideas or suggestions or tips to making a slight battle dmg/worn look to marine armor. I don't want them to have blown in armor or bullet holes everwhere. I just want there armor to look worn, battle riden, like they do the mainenance on there amor to keep it fuctioning and battle ready but not reallly keeping the paint up to par to make it parade ready. So i guess i want to make it look like its been painted but the edges are showing more ceramite and less paint and polish. Also..to give you guys an idea. My main two colors for the army will be a scaly green and black. so if you guys got any good suggestions on weathering those to colors so they look worn, but not really muddy and dirty that would be awesome too. If anyone has any links, i would be interested in those too, links that is for techinques. I will say i want to make them look good and cool, but i also don't want to spend weeks on a single model either, so i am really looking for some speedy techiniques and ideas. Thanks a ton guys. Really trying to get motivated in the painting again, and since its a new force, i might as wel try to stay motivated on painting so when i get around to getting more time to play again(maybe this summer) i can bring out a fully painted force instead of halfway started minis. jester_prince
I had the same problem, I didnt want extreme battle damage so i just went with painted wear and tear. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/08032009007.jpg I saw this on this forum somewhere and I wanted to try recreate it. Its really simple to do and I think its quite effective. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/damagetutorial.jpg Hopefully this will explain how to do it. Its quick and easy, you just have to swap out the colours to your own, I think you might even be able to use boltgun metal as the centre colour to show the metal underneath. I only did it a little bit because it was my first attempt. Rizara
thanks guys. As for the GW link, thatsexactly what i don't want. I want there armor to look just worn, not so damaged its like they don't take care of it. And thanks again for that technigue death jester, i have looked into that already but not sure it really achieves the look i want. Guess i will just have to dabble and get some old models and test some ideas my mind has brewing to see if i can't get a desired effect. Thanks alot guys.
