13 Company (rune priest & storm claws)

Recommended Posts

This is my Thirteenth company rune priest I have started on. In the fluffyness he has an unhealtyh obssesion with bones so he is unsurprisingly known as Brage the Priest of Bones. C&C welcome.

nice work on the hair, although i'm not sure about the amount of bones (although you have posted a reference about his fluff) as it makes him looks like one of the legion of the damned...

also whats up with his left arm... looks kinda wierd in the pics, although it could justbe the angle or the fact that its still quite wip.

look forward to seeing him finished

I have noticed the arm angle problem and am working on a solution, it is worse in the pics than it actually is though, part of the problem is finding a good way for his axe to sit but i may end up replacing it iv'e tried three versions and aren't really satisfied with any of them yet. as to orphanfeast99 the chest bones are the rib cage of Tomb kings skeletal horses. Thanks for the comments they all help. and i know how bad some of these look in the photos but apparently i need to take some fuzzy pics so the little nicks don't show up. anywhoo here is an update on him and some of the progress ive made so far.

upper body just blue tacked together

and the Legs as they are, the left foot is a bionic, and i have no idea what it originally was (other than an arm, some sort of powerfisty thingy) i just know i got it at conflict a couple years ago.

There are some nice poses there, but my criticism is, use less chaotic heads, or really mess with them, heavily damage them. They are Space Wolves, and while they might have to use Chaos Space Marine armour out of necessity, they aren't Chaos Space Marines, its even more of an insult to the Gods if the Wolves deface items that represent the Chaos Gods.

You might also want to consider using a small selection of Traitor colours for the armour, otherwise all those extra colours will overpower the grey of the 13th Company, and it'll look like an explosion in a paint factory (thats the second time this week I've used that expression). Instead, use one or two Legions, perhaps those of any Chaos players you might regularly play against.

The Colors i am using are pretty much restricted to purple, blue, and red. or in other words Emperors children, thousand sons, and world eaters. i see what you mean by defacing the chaos equipment but on the other hand will that reduce its useability(that can't be a word) i will also be adding a bunch of chips out of the paint and the like on their armor if that would help? also the amount of chaos bits and armor is reduced in more of the models only a few pieces here and there, this pack in my fluff tends to be unlucky and therefore all the chaos stuff.

thanks for the ideas! keep the comments and criticism coming!!

You got some great GS work there but alas I also feel there is too much chaos. I know that the 13th scavange bits of armour in the warp but I have always felt that they would still overall look very Space Wolf like

Have you tried these out on bases yet as some seem at odd angles on the sticky tack

Please accept this as 'constructive' and not 'destructive' critisism and that it's only my opinion, but keep on with the army - the 13th rock

I agree with DGC here you really need to tone done the chaos helmets, i believe they do look a bit too influenced by the Dark Gods. Other than that you got some great poses keep it up.

Thanks For all the replies and yes i do understand that theses guys do look quite chaotic. however within each ten man squad there are only about one or two chaos heads, part of it is to mock the gods and another part is just trying to show sections of armor that had to be replaced wholesale. but thanks for the comments.

To Retributis: the grey armor is an astronomicon grey with a codex grey over top. i was planing on giving the edges higlighst working up to space wolves grey. but if you have any ideas i would love to hear them im kinda stuck as to how to make it look less "flat"?

To DGC: the angle of some are a little wonky but i have built many of their bases and the have large rocks and rubble on them so the angles work for their individual bases.

Thanks for all the comments, keep them coming and i will hopefully have updates soon.

I have also just finished the conversion on Wolf priest for the most part, and is ready for painting. i think i need to wolfify him a bit but im not sure how without losing so much of the cool detail on the model already. im also trying to show that for their army the HQ's are above the taint of chaos.

so here he is

A general rule GW gave around the Eye of Terror campaign for modelling the 13th Company was, use one or two Chaos pieces, otherwise the model will look more like a Chaos Space Marine. If you have an Imperial backpack, use Chaos legs, if its a Chaos backpack, use Imperial shoulder pads. The point is, you want a balance between the two extremes, each part complimenting the others but at the same time not overpowering the others.

This isn't a criticism about you, but rather some pointers about the 13th Company.

Nice simple but effective conversion. I say simple - I am too scared to try and remove the Wolf skull helm in case I muller it. As to wolfy it up, with the GS skills you showed in the first pic I am sure some small runes on the armour wouldn't be beyond you ability or a couple of furs over some of the more un-wolfy icons could help

For some tips on painting your wolves try and find the WD that was released at the same time as the last sets of plastics we had. I think that is where Anarnaxe has got the semi-quote. It suggested that any specific chaos icons/symbols should be defaced or best removed completely as although the 13th used bits of chaos armour to replace the bits they had that were damaged beyond repair they were still as loyal as normal marines (Space Wolf marines that is). The suggestion for keeping the colours limited to one or two chaos chapters not just one or two paints was to maintain some balance to the overall look and the idea of only one or two pieces of armour being chaotic was so that the general feel they were still loyal marines wasn't lost

Anyway, keep on and will be following with interest
