wokkers
i have finished all the basic colors and most of the highlighting - but he looks like he just walked out of the local "dread wash". weathering? damage? help!? :P http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/wokkers/UM4C/20090323_DREAD_001.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/wokkers/UM4C/20090323_DREAD_002.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/wokkers/UM4C/20090323_DREAD_003.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/wokkers/UM4C/20090323_DREAD_004.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/wokkers/UM4C/20090323_DREAD_005.jpg thanks for looking. farmersboy
Well, the first thing to look at is edges - this is where you'll get chipped/worn paint - minimal drybrushing with a pale grey to show bare ceramite underneath maybe? Muddy him up - you'd expect to see mud (or dust) on his feet and legs. Look at photo's of tanks and the like after they've been out in the field - you could show scratches in the paint, rust in the crevices (a sepia ink would do that quite nicely). Blood on the power claw? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163891-aobr-um-dread/#findComment-1926725 Share on other sites

Raven Torrid
Well, I like it! In fact, I got it bookmarked....it looks simple but effective and I'm certainly going to use it as a reference when doing battle damage. :D Thanks, and good work! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163891-aobr-um-dread/#findComment-1929367 Share on other sites
Brother Blackbone
I really like the orange around the multimelta. I also suggest putting some minimal Scorched Brown and Black drybrush on the vents to show scorching of the metal. Have you thought about some additional badge markings, white checked areas, etc.? Those look cool when weathered with drybrushing/stippling of Graveyard Earth and/or Kommando Khaki. Lots of good weathering tutorials and examples out there. I usually try a few every time I do a vehicle. - Blackbone Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163891-aobr-um-dread/#findComment-1929915 Share on other sites
wokkers
believe it or not there is no orange in that blend. its all browns. i tried a wet blend for the first time and it kind of went awry :) i will add more scorched brown and black before the next update. wokkers
i have now completed the weathering on this fella. also added some 'crud' to his feet and lower legs. C&C please. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/wokkers/UM4C/20090331_DREAD_001.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/wokkers/UM4C/20090331_DREAD_002.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/wokkers/UM4C/20090331_DREAD_003.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/wokkers/UM4C/20090331_DREAD_004.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/wokkers/UM4C/20090331_DREAD_005.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163891-aobr-um-dread/#findComment-1936407 Share on other sites
farmersboy
That looks so much better than a squeaky-clean one, particularly the muddy feet. Nicely done mate. :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163891-aobr-um-dread/#findComment-1936607 Share on other sites
Brother Emelias
Now you need maybe a some weapon blasts and carbon scoring, if you can fit it in somewhere. Heck, throw some on top of the faded paint areas, like he just came back from whompin' a mud-hole into some Xenos hide. That'd give this baby some real battle hardened personality. Like he's been through it and is back for more! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163891-aobr-um-dread/#findComment-1936611 Share on other sites
youthminister40k
Well done. I've yet to master a good "weathering" technique but it looks like you've got a good hold on it Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163891-aobr-um-dread/#findComment-1936711 Share on other sites
Fire Lord Captain
Well and truly battered! It looks great. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163891-aobr-um-dread/#findComment-1936722 Share on other sites
Brother Blackbone
I think the weathering turned out good. The only thing I think that is not working that great is the color of the dirt on the feet vs. the color of the ground on the base. Not sure how you feel about this. - Blackbone Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163891-aobr-um-dread/#findComment-1937250 Share on other sites
Griffsnog
Awesome that dreadnaught looks like he/it needs a bath well done. Did you use the tamaya weathering kit for the mud? wokkers
thanks for the c&c. Now you need maybe a some weapon blasts and carbon scoring, if you can fit it in somewhere. Like he's been through it and is back for more! i thought about the bullet holes and stuff like that, but i had already finished the basic colors by then. didn't want to go drilling into a painted model :woot: I think the weathering turned out good. The only thing I think that is not working that great is the color of the dirt on the feet vs. the color of the ground on the base. Not sure how you feel about this. - Blackbone yeah i noticed that. i think maybe i should darken as it gets closer to the ground. thoughts? Awesome that dreadnaught looks like he/it needs a bath well done. Did you use the tamaya weathering kit for the mud? just khaki paint stippled roughly on to the surface.
