The floors here are so clean........

Got a fun little game in with my sisters. the army i was up against won the Seattle GT(but played by a friend of the GT winner) so i figured my second hand SOB army i bought from a friend because he needed some cash would get beaten up pretty badly especially since i just crammed in a few pricey units to bump it to 2K

My was this game the exception......so here goes

His list-

Night lords

slightly altered with the loss of the old night lord rules-going slaneesh heavy but without lash of submission

HQ

.X2 demon princes

Troops

.X2 full chaos marine squads with rhinos

Fast attack

.X2 10man bike squads with melta guns

Heavies

.X2 vindicators

noise marine squad with blast masters-not sure where they fit in the chart.

My list-

HQ

.lord karamozov

.cannoness, blessed weapon, rosarious etc..

Troops

X2 10 sister SOB squads, vet superior book of st. lucious, melta/ heavy flamer, repressor transports with the works

Elite

.inquisitor, psychic hood, rosarius, power armor etc...

.eversore assassin

Heavy

.retributor squad with heavy bolters

X2 exorcists

Game-

.5 objectives

.12" deployment

.points-2K

Turn1

SOB win the roll and set up, then the chaos scum seize the initiative. bikes boost forward, vindicators roll up as do the demons and then the pain begins-

The vindicator to my right scatters wide and the land raider is spared. the one to my left nails a repressor but only manages an immobilized result. he shoots at my retributors a bit killing one and karamozov, then its my turn.

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/svn1.jpg

The land raider rolls over to the bikers, the nearby exorcist lends its support. they take minor losses and then get assaulted by cannoness and inquisitor. i cannot roll a 4+ invul save for the life of me. the inquisitor dies and the cannoness is down to 1 wound, but she is well trained for such things and stays in the fight. holding the bike squad for another turn

the SOB to my left dismount their broken ride(it fires an HK at the vindicator to no effect) and the other moves up to assist. they lay down a torrent of fire bur the chaos bikers do not yield.

Karamozov moves to shore up the right flank while the retributors lay down fire on the chaos marines across the field...laying half their number low.

Turn 2

His demon attempts to grab my land raider but only manages to stun it. his bikes finish off the cannoness, my assassin comes in but i forget to move him into assault. since i hid him so well behind a hill i forgot he was even there. his other demon assaults the SOB unit that had to walk while the bikes strike the other. In the face of the demon the sisters have no fear for nearby on their transport a holy icon heralds the glory of the emperor and they bear the book of st. lucious. This demon cannot prevail against their will.

The bikes do a far more serious blow yet the sisters there do not falter......the chaos gods(and player) are annoyed.

The vindicator to my left takes the heavy flamer off the immobile repressor with an armor pen roll of double 1's for a glance 5. the one to my right scatters wide doing no damage.

He ignores my assassin, silly him.

My turn again.

The demon to my right annoys me so i smite it, karamozov scores a wound with his melta, the retributors score another and the angered machine spirit of the land raider yet one more. the exorcist moves into position to fire on bikers in the open. scoring some of their number.

The mobile repressor moves to get LOS on the vindicator menacing karamozov but its HK fails to do damage. The rest is CC. his demon takes down another sister yet they do not falter. the sisters in battle with the bikes all fall save save one bearing the holy fire of the heavy flamer. her faith is tested, with no holy icon near and the sister superior slain she alone must test...and she passes!

Turn 3

Chaos is at a quandary, so many targets to attack and so few units to do wit with. The demon boasts gifts of slaneesh shall take karamozov on with 5 attacks on the charge striking first, but before that his marines and noise marines pour fire into karamozov but only score a lone wound from a bolter round, his vindicator hits and the emperor protects, Karamozov saves......the demon charges striking 3 times, only needing 3+ to wound the dice are cast and come up 1, 1, 2..........so Karamazov pokes it in the eye and it dies.

Behold the emperors wrath!

Karamozov consolidates towards the vindicator

The bikes attempt to melta the exorcist and fail so they assault it and score an immobilized result.

To the left flank-

The demon scores no wound but neither do the sisters leaving combat tied. the last sister falls to the bikes, her faithful services is noted.

The sacrifices of this battle have been great but the tide turns-

Karamozov fresh from his victory moves up and puts his melta shot into the vindicator destroying it. the retributors, land raider and exorcist fire on the bikes. taking their number down but they do not run. the assassin boosted by drugs moves forward and catches the bikes from behind. slaying all of them for the return of 1 wound. the 12" charge was a bit of a surprise for the chaos player, i think next time he will not so easily ignore the assassins of Terra.

With the right flank clear the mobile repressor doubles back to aid the exorcist in dealing with the surviving bikes. taking their numbers down but they do not run.

The SOB pay delay to hold the demon at bay and much to my opponents grumblings they hold.............

Turn 4

With nothing to do on the right flank the enemy fires at karamozov with marines to no effect

On the left he makes on final attempt with the bikes to kill the exorcist and fails. his vindicator exposes itself to try as well but scatters wide.

Karamozov marches into the face of the marines trying to lay a wound on him and contests their objective in the process. the assassin moves in to support, the retributors and exorcist take the noise marines down to one. the exorcist/repressor to my left fires on the bikes again taking their number down to a mere 2. the raider repositions to fire on the remaining intact marine squad. they do not take enough wounds to break.

Another round of CC with the demon and the sisters hold it still.

Turn 5

The battles end looms, the bikes abandon their fruitless chase of the exorcist and move to aid their demon prince who is apparently incapable of beating up some girls. his lone in tacts marine unit having been in the back field most of the game, moves to consolidate on an objective. the other attempts to shoot and assault Karamozov, the mistake is theirs and they break and run under his might..i hear some grumblings about my "monstrous creature" from the chaos player.....even though he has 2 that are comparatively cheaper and better than karamozov

:D

Karamozov contests his objective as the marine squad runs, the raider tries to put fire into the remaining marine squad but they stay, the remaining mobile repressor moves towards the one held objective in hopes for a turn 6 so it can contest. the exorcist to my left fires on the exposed vindicator scoring a pen 2 that becomes a 3 thanks to AP1 destroying the threat of the last demolisher cannon while garnering some irritation from the chaos player at the exorcists,

With the aid of the bikes his demon is Finlay free of CC and the last of my "troop" SOB fall.

The dice is rolled and the games ends at 5...

Victory to chaos but only just barely, the tide had turned against them, had it continued i think i might have been able to get a tie at the least.

I think this game is probably on of the best performances (and most fun) my sisters have ever pulled off.

as I said from he start i expected to get creamed by this tournament list. Granted his demons could not hit the broad side of a barn, or wound with it, and my faith with wargear made all the difference to turn it around like this was a pleasant surprise.

My opponent is somebody i play often and sometimes he gets a little cranky when things don't really go the way he expected, i think his unfamiliarity with the SOB gear and units added to this.....me rolling lots of 5s and 6s for my exorcists didn't help his mood either.

Under troops. :D

His list was a bit odd to me and the strategy used (sending the bikes in unsupported + moving them too close to let you charge them) but thank you very much for sharing, it was a good read.

I think he moved them up fast to kill my dangerous ranged units namely the exorcists and such as well as tie down my troops since we had 5 objectives to deal with, he did have the demons supporting each bike unit or close by and he did move up his vindies. it wasn't actually his army but he is building one similar to it.

Having my SOB never taking mods to theur LD tests and using faith to survive wasn't what he was expecting i imagine. Then there was the dice gods.

:D

An exciting battle! I'm glad you gave him a run for his money, though he should be ashamed for his little whinge session about Karamazov. In my experience, Chaos players tend to whinge a lot though (but not as much as Eldar ones :D), so no great surprised.

Definitely good to see units performing well, especially the Assassin. Goes to show that the closest games are often the most fun!

From what I could see, the army looked well painted, and that always helps create an atmosphere for the game. Despite my imagination, it's very difficult to experience the epic fights when your models are tussling with a load of grey and black

I was the opponent in this game with the Night Lords. Sure, there are things that i could have done better in this game that would have made this a very different game, but condisdering that I got this army last wednesday from the Seatle GT winner, Chase Linbo, and having only played 3 games with it before this one, I think i did pretty well.

My unfariliarity with SOB was a little irritating to me because they have some strange rules and this being the first time i have ever played against SOB's, I did not know what to expect.

I will try and post some pics of the army that i was using latter on today if i get a chance.

Indeed, playing against SoB for the first time is a somewhat terrifying experience (as with all armies, really, but especially so due to faith powers), but once you understand the army and the context faith is used in I've yet to discover someone who raises much of a grumble. In fact, much of my understanding of SoB comes from playing against them, though you could say that's the best way to learn from any army!

For example, it gives them a (finite) versatility that none can match - you're standing there thinking "I could do X, where I would be at the advatange" but then realise that a faith point could be spent and all of a sudden you're on equal footing... or worse. The SoB are one of my favourite armies to play for just this reason, as you have consider all the many ways it could play out and an experienced SoB player will make you work for victory.

I look forward to seeing some more pictures, especially of the Vindie...
