Maijin
I was playing vs a SW army last night using a venerable dread as an HQ choice, instead of as an Elite. The question I pose is, as an HQ choice(or elite for that matter) is he still treated like a vehicle in all regards? At one point during the game he tried to claim it has independent character status so as to join with a unit of foot troops. A few other people argued he couldn't do it, so he didn't, but I wanted some clarification if it was a legal tactic or not. Thanks. Bran Scalphunter
As a Space Wolf player, I can tell you for sure that our Venerable Dreadnoughts are not Independent Characters. Even though they have the ability to be taken as an HQ choice, they are vehicles in all senses. So no, there is no way he should have been able to attach a Dread to any sort of pack. It doesn't have the IC rule in it's special rules, so if he tries to pull that again, tell him to show where it says Independent Character in his Dread's special rules. JEFF4i
They aren't ICs, no way no how. Still nasty, but not gonna happen. I don't even know why he'd want to do it, but you were correct. Ryzouken
In Mother Russia, Dreadnought joins you! totally kidding. HQ Vehicle, does not possess the Independant Character keyword/trait/rule= no joiny joiny On that note, how much easier would it make GW rules writing if they went and used a keyword:effect system of writing? Write the list, then for every keyword you used, include the effect description in a big table at the back. Then as long as you aren't a total ditz when it comes to writing the actual effect descriptions, and made sure to include clarifying text for any unclear interactions with other keywords... I just fixed 40k 6th Edition (yes, I really did mean 6th Ed. It's a prediction for the fix to the next edition of the rules.) Of course, as it's a nice idea it'll never happen but never mind. As for the whelp who claims our Ven Dread is an IC - no Ale for a week! It isn't an IC, you can't stick it in a unit, and it is still made of pure, solid awesome.
