RandomGuy
As many of you may know, next Sunday is the great devourer tournament in Newbury (UK). I was going to take my Eldar. I wrote the list and got the whole army done in November so I didn't have to rush around at the last minute, but they are kind of boring me at the moment. So typically I decided last night it was time for a new plan, Hawk Lords. The color scheme was stolen largely from metcalfedan's Crimson Fists. When I saw that I knew it would look amazing in purple. So after a fashion of playing around with pre-heresy Emperor's Children, I settled with the loyalist Hawk Lords. I have most of the models already, so it's just as case of painting them. This is going to end up in either the fastest painted 1750 list ever, or plan B... (note to self write plan :) Anyway here's the list- Shrike Tactical Squad w/HB, PG, PF Tactical Squad w/ML, F Scout Squad w/4xSG, 5xBP, PF/SG Assault Squad w/TLC, MB, F Assault Squad w/PF, F Land Speeder Legion of the Damned x5 w/HB Vindicator Predator w/LCS Thunderfire I've tried to keep the list as simple as possible for here. If people want to help me out then let me know and I'll post it properly in the relevant section. Anyway onto the test model. Sorry the lighting isn't great... I'll update you with todays work later. I'm hoping to get these done: The odds aren't great though Random Guy Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163944-painting-an-army-in-6-days/ Share on other sites
Captain Pugno
You are right - the scheme looks great I appreciate you have only a little time but - MOLD LINES - they are the scourge of a good model Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163944-painting-an-army-in-6-days/#findComment-1927216 Share on other sites

metcalfedan
6 DAYS? :jaw: Man you crazy, it takes me roughly 6 days to paint a single model in metallics, let alone a whole army. If you can pull this off then I will bow down to you as the Emperor Reincarnate! Good Luck! :tu: EDIT: Pssst... your not terrible at painting... RandomGuy
DAY 1 UPDATE Well it's been a good day for painting. But I've done no-where near what I'd hoped. I'll spare the WIP pics till the morning because I've got one Tactical to near purple status. I decided to start on the big stuff which i could use a spray gun on. I'm kinda reliant on the weather for this and so i thought it would be best to do it whilst the sun holds up. Anyway onto the pics... Predator The turret was done as a piece for my sisters of battle originally, to give them some more dakka for apocalypse, but since I hardly get to play it, I've stolen it for this project. I think the metallic cherub looks quite nice actually. The overall finish looks less shiny than the rest of the army, but when I get the vindi done hopefully that will all change... And the speeder I've decided to base the entire army as if it were in a ruined desert outpost and after I saw the eldar army from the recent To4G in WD and how those jetbikes had been done I decided to try something similar for my army. So here is the landspeeder's base. And then the whole thing: You can tell I really care about tlos with this army... Pssst... your not terrible at painting... Oh I am rubbish at painting. Trust me, the only reason I chose this scheme was because I thought it would look effective whilst still being a fairly easy thing to do. As for the dreaded mold lines I really do try to pick up on the bad ones. This scheme really does bring them out like drybrushing. It's just whenever i take them off it always worse than if I hadn't. I shall have a look for a tutorial later but if anyone's feeling kind any ideas? So 1 day down and I have finished a whole 170 points. At this rate I will fail epically. Bring on day 2  Random Guy Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/163944-painting-an-army-in-6-days/#findComment-1927479 Share on other sites
Daneilla
Wow, I seem to have registered just so I can post here. Oh well. You really do have a task and a half on your hands. Still that predator looks amazing. I too love this color scheme. I may have to steal it for some pre-heresy emperor's children, any chance you could tell us how it's done..? Only thing I don't understand is what's with the shield? It's not on the army list so I'm not sure how it fits into the list. Keep painting. Any chance of seeing some infantry today? And I'll join metcalfedan if you can pull this off you truly are the emperor reincarnate... Tvayumat
I'm assuming the base color you are using is Liche Purple, which is the same that I use. What I did was mix up a batch of what I titled "Bubblegum pink", haven't tried Tentacle Pink though it looks to be a similar color. Either way drybrush the bubblegum pink color lightly over your purple armor plates and you can get a very cool (and QUICK) highlighting effect! http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh269/Tvayumat/SSL10327.jpg This is not the best picture, in fact it's terrible, but this guy had the bubblegum pink treatment, it's a bit sloppy but it was my first try and I cleaned it up. It looks much better on my tech marine, I'll try to get a pic of him for ya! RandomGuy
DAY 2 UPDATE Today has been better than day 1 even though I didn't finish any 1 model. I've made significant inroads into my tactical marines. See below. they still need some tidy up work doing and the bases need grassing. Still someone got their wish... Any chance of seeing some infantry today? Squad 1 Part 1 Squad 1, Part 2 (sorry this one is a bit blurred) Squad 2 Tomorrow I get to tackle the assault marines, and finish this lot off. But so far I've nearly done 545 Points. Getting there but still a long way behind. Oh well. Must try harder. Okay and now for the comments. I too love this color scheme. I may have to steal it for some pre-heresy emperor's children, any chance you could tell us how it's done..? The process to paint these guys is simple. There's actually no Liche purple in there either. Just metallics and washes. 1- Chaos Black spray 2- Paint whole model Boltgun Metal 3- Highlight/Drybrush Chainmail 4- Highlight/lighter Drybrush Mythril Silver 5- Badab Black model 6 Leviathan Purple model 7-Leviathan Purple model 8- Leviathan Purple model 9 Badab Black model 10- Devlan Mud model 11- Leviathan Purple model 12- Leviathan Purple model 13- Leviathan Purple model 14- Paint everything else... 15- Do Base I have done it without the last 5 layers of washes when I did my first test model, but it just didn't look right so I experimented and came up with that. Yes it's a lot of work but it sure is worth it (I think). Only thing I don't understand is what's with the shield? It's not on the army list so I'm not sure how it fits into the list. The shields are purely decorative. When I decided to do these guys as hawk lords I knew that there were no decals to do their shoulder pads with nor was the symbol (effectively the raven guard one in gold) going to be terribly easy. Coupled with the fact that any mistakes would mean almost starting from scratch because of the main metallic colour on the model. Once you've done all those layers you really have no inclination to do them ever again. So I've decided that rather than risk ruining my model on a symbol, I'd find a different way of portraying it. At the time I had my empire bitz box on my paint station and seeing that shield symbol I knew it would fit perfectly. I'm still trying to work out how to stick them on my tactical marines as the shields are curved and my marines don't like that but on the assault squads they just fit nicely over the chainsword arm. So no that's not a combat shield, just decorative. Anyway that's day 2 over. Only 4 more days to go till you lot have to bow down and worship me, or I look like a complete fool and out comes the eldar... mongrelfish
Even for just attempting this project your insane! My best attempt saw me paint 1500 points in a month and that was hard enough. Good to see a loyalist purple army out there too, keep it up!
