My army pics

Well I started collecting in December and this is what I have so far. I've never painted anything before in my life so I wanted to get your takes on em. I'm not very good so be gentle, but constructive criticism is appreciated. Oh and I put them on a bunch of terrain, sorta setting up a diorama. And I took the shots with my Phone Camera and some came out great and others not so good. Well Thanks in advance.

Here is my one of 2 dreadnoughts, the other is base coated but not painted. It has a las/msl.

My Land Raider Crusader turned out better than I hoped, but sadly glue got on the gears so the door doesn't open/shut well. I painted the inside too but nobody will ever see it... :HQ:

Couple of my GKT's with Stern (my friend Tony who is amazingly talented did the lightning on the blades)

Here is Inquisitor Lord Gregory Gerard. I'm giving him a back story and what have you, hes a puritanical sort.

Here is my slightly modified BC whom I named Dvorn after the character from the Ben Counter novels.

http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/7654/dvorn.jpg

Here is Sgt Tagart and my one painted Storm Trooper with Plasma. Sgt Tagart got fielded against the Tau last night and averaged 2 kills per round of shooting with his bolter. I was excited.

Here is three of my painted PAGK squad, the Cally pic shows them a bit from the side.

http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/2472/pagkf.jpg

Here is my Justicar and Brother Ezekius who now has almost 20 kills under his belt making him the MVP in my army. That Incinerator is nasty.

http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/2421/ezekius.jpg

Here is my Broadside team solution, the Calidus Assassin. I love this chick with every fiber of my being, she always earns her points back and kills something important.

And my final picture (whew) is of my Vindicare who while im not amazingly impressed with I still like.

http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/9599/vindicare.jpg

I have a lot of stuff not painted, but I'm working on it. I have about 35 Storm Troopers to paint, another Dread, a GHLR, and 2 more squads of PAGK and some psycannons. Oh and my Inquisitors retinue.

Well I hope you liked the pics thanks for reading if you made it this far.

You've done all that since just December? :HQ: Impressive!

Better light would make it easier to make an honest assessment, but from what I can tell, you have a clean, bright finish, which always works well on GKs. I agree that your NFWs look very nice. Do you have any shaded depths on your models?

I'll see if i can get a better shot of some of them this afternoon in better light. I don't think I have much in the way of shaded Depths, the only thing I did as far as that went is I didn't drybrush any mithril silver onto areas in the recesses. And I put some blue was in some of the corners and such. But again since I'm very new to painting I don't really know how to do much. Just what a few people have shown me and mostly stuff I figured out on my own.

On a very very good week I can do 4 models, or one a week night. It takes me forever to paint this stuff, I feel kinda bad when my friend can make a model look twice as good in half the time. The GKT's all took over 5 hours and even my Storm Trooper Sgt took me 2.5 hours. The Vindicare took me an hour :HQ: I wish I could take credit for those Nemesis force weapons I just put the ice blue on and blue washed em, my friend put the shading and lightning on em cause I begged him to.

Ok got all the pics hosted and what not, here are basically a good portion of the models I already posted pics of but with decent lighting i got on my balcony. Hope you can get the angles and what have you that you guys needed to make a better decision. And I got three of the LRC because you guys seemed to want better ones of it.

Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it. Oh and on Brother Ezekius head (Incinerator PAGK), the mold was messed up right out of the box so I sorta tried to put some drybrush and wash on the right side of his helmet to simulate battle damage, don't know how it turned out though.

For your first paint they are really neat!

Now they could easily be imrove with a few tricks:

1) the eyes :

-mix your blue with some white (50/50), and paint a thin line in the middle of the eyes, and around them on the edge of the helmet near them,

-then use diluted blue ink, or rellay watered down blue to paint on top (and a bit larger) of the surrounding blue line you've just paint.

It will give the impression that you eyes are glowing. a bit like that :

I hope their won't be a problem with it (as it come from another website), but here is the tutorial I use (with other colour though):

http://www.coolminiornot.com/article/aid/288/page/4

2) your gold could be improve too:

-personally I will first use some flesh, chestnut, or brown ink on top of it,

-then dry brush some burnished gold,

-and finally highlight with some mithril silver

3) the silver part of the armour could be highlighted :

it seem that you've use a really bright metalic paint for the armour, so it's quite hard to higlight...

so first use a watered down blue ink on it, then highlight it with mithril silver

Same again, here is a tutorial from the same website for metallics :

http://www.coolminiornot.com/article/aid/649

You don't have to follow them to the letter (I use different colour, and apply less layer), but you've got the idea.

Let say that just with the use of one ink or watered down paint to darken your base colour, and then one highlight on the edge it really improve the aspect of the minis.

Anyway, it's a really good start, keep on painting!

Good luck, work hard,

Tchezz.

PS : on a side note, just in case you are like me, refrain from trying those technique on your favourite minis first! I had to paint my generals and mage (i began by WB) many time! If your not satisfied with the result, you could always easily strip the paint of your model, by letting them in brake fluid for a night or two!
