HJL
A situation arose in my last game where a unit had gone to ground, i then shot at the unit behind them. Because there was still a unit in front they granted the unit behind a 4+ save, enough though they were hugging the ground. what was this, were they waving their guns in the air above them trying to deflect bullets?! some one show me a rule saying this is wrong!! Seahawk
Nope, it's not wrong; the unit behind still gets the cover save. However, the cover save would only be granted if you're still shooting through the unit. If your line of sight goes completely over the intervening unit, no cover save, as per the normal rules. HJL
but the unit is still standing there, they just count as going to ground, so they are still physically interrupting los. Seahawk
So then it's a cover save for everyone! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164068-going-to-ground-and-granting-cover/#findComment-1928780 Share on other sites
HJL
logical beyond belief. I wonder if they thought it threw before they wrote that rule... werewolf_nr
I really wish they would have just dropped all the exceptions to the true line of sight rule. Can you see all the squad? y/n Can you see less than 50% of the squad? y/n Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164068-going-to-ground-and-granting-cover/#findComment-1928797 Share on other sites
Praeger
Just remeber that just like all rules fluff can be used to show how it works. 1 - just becouse its called "going to ground" does not mean they drop flat onto the floor. 2 - what really happens is that they go into positions or use equipment that grants them a better defensive bonus - imagine guard digging fox holes, or tau using potable shield grenerators, chaos demons apearing as mist etc and you will have the right idea However its done, remeber that the combat is meant to be fluid in real life, each turn taking place at the same time as your enemies, each turn lasting maybe an hour or so depending on whats happeneing. When you take all of this into consideration some rules like this make more sense, not just from a rules stand point but also from a logical one. Scott-S6
I don't know where you got the idea that each turn represents an hour. I'd say that it represents minutes. The kind of skirmish that is shown on the 40K table would be over faster than we can play it. HJL
so its another case of, if it cant be explained logically and it makes no sense, just say its magic...
