Captain Idaho
Loved it, but the only problem is no-one wanted to be the Alien player in our group! If they remade it I would buy it, provided they cleaned up the winning conditions in campaigns. I loved the fluff that was inherent in the wargear of the Space Marines Chapters. Imperial Fists were the firepower tenacious Chapter, Ultramarines the balanced guys and the Blood Angels the close combat guys. Really wish they re-made it, maybe even as a variant of Space Hulk, combining the 2! Gurth
The old computer game was pretty crap compared to the real thing, TBH. The boardgame is a fun and uncomplicated game, if you ask me … now, if only I could get round to finishing the replacement models I've been working on :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164100-space-crusade/#findComment-1930574 Share on other sites
Kadaeux
Space Crusade was my first ever exposure to 40k. It was like a light going on. Strangely enough I didn't know it at the time, I found out they were connected when I started collecting 40k Properly some five years later. RADU LYKAN
space crusade is awesome, i have a few sets lying around plus the dreadnought expansion. never managed to play the eldar one though :) the only thing that would make space crusade better is adding space wolves to the mix :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164100-space-crusade/#findComment-1930607 Share on other sites
Vodunius
Myself and 5 of my friends all got into 40k via Space Crusade (as in fact did most people of a certain age - Space Crusade & HeroQuest were how GW first got its products into regular high street shops), we all have nostalgic feelings for it - even tho we now regard the rules as a bit rubbish, I do still fancy making a 3D board and a full set of minis* for it tho. * using modern minis, only real sticking point is the dreadnought - I'm leaning towards using an Obliterator instead. Terrahawk
Oh yes I remember Space Crusade. Actually it was my first exposure to 40K as it has been for other posters in this thread. As such it definitely has a special place in my heart. B) To be honest, one of the reasons I started an IF army was the fond memories of Space Crusade. I still got the game somewhere in my parents' house, hmmm maybe I'll add some marines to my IF army from the game. And the "Dreadnought"! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164100-space-crusade/#findComment-1932452 Share on other sites

I'm the same with Dark Angels, kinda, everyone else started doing 40k armies of the chapter they played in Space Crusade so I had to find another one to do ;). Heh, fortunately the Dark Angels are a pretty good choice for a Chapter. ;) Edit: Ooooh, my 100th post in a Space Crusade thread, this must be destiny. As I hinted at above, I've got an almost complete set of figures ready for it, using current models. For the Dreadnought, I did indeed also go for an Obliterator, and I decided to replace the Necrons with mega-armoured orks, since IMHO those seem to fit the stats better than current Necrons do. All I need to do then is scrape up the courage to buy enough Terminator sets to give three players all possible choices … :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164100-space-crusade/#findComment-1933055 Share on other sites
Mekelan
Well, I'm getting (back) into the 40K hobby through Space Crusade. I should probably start by saying I'm 27, and me and a group of friends of the same age are having good fun playing Space Crusade. I haven't played since I was a kid (about 13 I think). At least two of us are making custom SM chapters to use in the game (using existing rules of course). I won't bother posting them up since the chapters are a bit cliché, but a 7-man squad (we're using the Dreadnought expansion) is much more manageable than a 30-50 man army, hehe. At least once you're grown up and have commitments and "proper work [bleh!]" and such! Like others, I'm also working slowly towards replacing all the aliens with modern minis (currently almost finished the Gretchin and working on the Genestealers). Eventually I'd also like to make a 3D game board, put all this together and I'll have enough to keep me busy until I'm 30 haha ^_^ Of course it doesn't help that I live 300 KMs from the nearest GW store, and about 50 from the nearest GW products stockist - so everything is mail-order, which is cheaper but also so very very slow (14 days+ usually). Dejay
Wow i forgot all about Space Crusade until i saw this topic, it brings back fond memories, was what got me into 40K in the first place. Mjolniir
i found a game on a garage sale, absolutly loved it, but almost no-one had the patience to sit through the relavively complex rules (compared to monopoly or risk). so i put it away, and slowly found out about 40k over the intervening years. finally started an army about 3 months ago. Gurth
Eventually I'd also like to make a 3D game board Same here  I've purchased some Hirst Arts moulds with suitable 25-mm floor tiles, bit I'm still trying to figure out a good way to make the walls that aren't too thick. I've been thinking that some of GW's building sets, mainly the Manufactorum, could supply suitable-looking walls, if I cut them in half height-wise so each wall panel will make two walls. Brother Ulkesh
That's a coincidence - I found my old copy of the game at my parent's house last week... All the original minis are there - just painted really, really badly. I should have an old WD somewhere that had got rules & a short campain using terminators instead of marines. Those were the days / kids today don't know they've been born / I remember when this was all fields / [insert your own "old-timer" cliche]. ironhands.com
Ah, Space Crusade, my old friend. I got into 40K early on (Rogue Trader era) but never liked the over-complexity of the rules! There I admit it. Needless to say, Space Crusade was like a godsend- it was super easy to play, I could get ANYONE to play. Problem was, it was never available in the US. My dad picked up a copy for me when he was visiting the UK, bless him. That was the beginning of a long love affair with the game... Eventually, the needs of my gaming group required adding more depth to the game, so I developed "Rules Crusade", and have been using it for all my campaign gaming ever since, including Marine and Imperial, Chaos, Ork, and even Necromunda and Mordheim campaigns. Currently the Gorka Morka rules are getting a workout (PM me if you'd like to join our campaign!). Check it out here: http://www.ironhands.com/rcintro.htm I found it hilarious that GW tried to capitalize on Milton Bradley's inroads by publishing Advanced Space Crusade- that game was more complicated than 40K, and a needless distraction from what should have been their focus at the time: Space Hulk. It's no wonder the Specialist Games are treated as the red-headed stepchild... Anyway, I've long since dumped the old rules, boards, models and blips on Ebay, but the spirit of Space Crusade lives on in our campaign games. May the Emperor bless it in memoriam... -S Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164100-space-crusade/#findComment-2023844 Share on other sites
Brunensteiner
Like so many others here, I got into 40k through Space Crusade ( and got into Space Crusade via Heroquest) but I think Space Crusade was totally awesome Ive still got some of the models to this day-theres a website that you can get everything you need to play (except the dice, Ive only got a red one left) and all the rules, missions, expansions,WD supplements etc. Its been a goal of mine to track down a copy on Ebay-basically I love Space Crusade. :eek Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164100-space-crusade/#findComment-2302699 Share on other sites
Micky B
I found a copy at a car boot sale last year. Not all the pieces were intact but who cares! It is fast moving, simple and a good few people could get involved making it a good social game too. If GW want to do a flash new remake then count me in. Imagine Space Hulk standard miniatures of BA, IF, and Ultras combined with all the different monster groups that can be used. Wahey! Are you watching GW? Brunensteiner
dude you wikipedia much? :) The cool part about it is you dont need a whole army-and it had Orks,Gretchin(Grots),Genestealers,Chaos Marines,Necrons and a weird Dreadnought.
