youthminister40k
Always love slapping spackling or the like on foam board. I'll make sure I show you some of the ruins I'm trying to do later. I like the assault marines a lot. The sergeant's pose is interesting, did you glue him on the back foot? All wip looking great! Karitas
He's glued on both feet actually :) I thought it kinda made him look like he was being supported by the thrusters, and either just landing, or just about to take off. i had to glue some weight into the front of the base tho, to balance him i use wood filler, which i assume is called "spackling" across the pond ;) i find it gives a nice texture to the otherwise very artificial looking foam core. i look forward to seeing your construction efforts, i love terrain making EDIT here's a better look at the oddly glued sergeant http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/Karitas/DSC_4072.jpg *self edited to remove excessive smilies :).. damn.. Karitas
This was on the sprue at noon :) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/Karitas/DSC_4080.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/Karitas/DSC_4081.jpg (it's 8:30 local time now. and i have done other things, like tidy the house, paint the boards for the table, slap another coat on the trees, basecoat the librarian etc etc. probly about 5 hrs sprue to done for the razorback) here he is with his squad http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/Karitas/DSC_4087.jpg he'll carry the melta, sergeant and 3 marines, while the others will hang back and give fire support it's not perfect and theres some things i will go back and add/repair/improve, but the upshot is my 550pt force of ultras for the game tuesday week is done! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/Karitas/DSC_4082.jpg and here they all are i've still got a shedlaod of terrain to finish, but it's all detailing / painting now. oh and 550pts of orks to paint, hrm. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164104-returning-to-the-hobby-after-10-years/page/3/#findComment-1945900 Share on other sites
youthminister40k
Spackling is used on dry-wall, wood filler is still wood filler in these states! :jaw: Nice job by the way, 8 hours and there's a transport. What a day for you! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164104-returning-to-the-hobby-after-10-years/page/3/#findComment-1946046 Share on other sites

Karitas
@youthminister ah okay, i guess we'd call "spackling" "plaster" or "render" then. i use wood filler as plaster sets once it's mised with water, wheras i can keep a tub of wood filler for weeks and use a bit a a time. i love the stuff. to the point of almost building with it when it comes to craters etc :jaw: @Noi I was going to say "i would mate but i'm not as neat as you" but the truth is that razorback has the most tidy even basecoat i've ever done. thanks to my airbrush. back when i was into 40k i didnt have acess to an airbrush, and had only every used one for graphics work on paper, dreading the masking etc. i've got one at home now and have used it for a few minis for zenithal etc, but hadnt used it on a vehicled WOW what a difference it makes no more visible brush strikes. except on the detail. damn, better start masking agian ;) . so yeah sure, get yerself to the midlands and i'll mass spray yellow for ya :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164104-returning-to-the-hobby-after-10-years/page/3/#findComment-1946061 Share on other sites
Karitas
So apart from undercoating 50 orks and getting black snot from inhaling spray (yeah i know, i need a mask) i've finished the terrain - all apart from the orky buildings, which are waiting on available bitz from my boyz build. so here, as promised, is the terrain update:- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/Karitas/DSC_4094.jpg The statue, which i'm going to use as an objective in most games, likewise the ammo dump - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/Karitas/DSC_4095.jpg something about some of the inks i use photgraphs really badly, the sandbags look way better than that :/ http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/Karitas/DSC_4096.jpg Craters they have a bit nore depth irl, bad photo angle and lastly, all those woods - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/Karitas/DSC_4093.jpg i'll update later in the week with the table set up :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164104-returning-to-the-hobby-after-10-years/page/3/#findComment-1949095 Share on other sites

Kerrigan
Looks very nice in all. One little (big) thing though, please use transfers! The ultramarines symbols you paint really pull the overall quality of your painting down. It's so easy to apply. There are solutions for better setting of transfers. Karitas
Thanks for the comments both, Kerrigan. i personally work on the theory that if i dont practice then i'll never improve, and decals would prevent me practicing ^_^ I also started with this hobby back when decals were a really bad idea, but i see from some people's work that they have come on a long way. mightygoose
i love these darker looking ultramarines, it actuall looks like they have fought a few battles rather than being parade ground fresh...
