Space wolf biker army?

ok, now i know quite a few old SW players that are sorry to see their codex go

 

so im working on using the new SM codex to build a space wolf like army

 

im doing this by using the rules for kor'sarro khan on moondraken and then using SM biker units a troops.

 

something like a 13th company fast attack feel with some attack bikers and vangaurd veterans

 

bare in mind im not trying to make a space wolf army list or space wolf codex im after an army with a space wolf feel

 

what do you guys think?

ummm.....i personally don't think bikers is very space wolf like. i would personally say Cato Sicarius' special rules would make a better wolfy feeling army. SW do have bikes, but i don't feel that they are what the wolves are about.

 

i would like to say it is not my place to say you idea is horrible or truly great. this is just my opinion. i feel these kind of threads come up every now and then, and the usually out come from most people is "why not just play space wolves?" there is nothing wrong with making a themed army, and that you aren't making a space wolf army, but if you are looking for something like space wolves, space wolves are the closest you will truly get.

I beg to differ. Bikes feel very wolfy to me. Tearing out full throttle toward the enemy in an irreversible BC charge... nice.

i'm sure bikes appeal to blood claws as when in training, they watched back to back episodes of mad max and night rider, getting themselves fully pumped while rocking out on friday nights to kiss, then go out and ride bikes. they then stand up on the seat and dive onto some evil doer, sending the bike crashing and bursting into flames which they put a chainsaw through some faces, massive riffs and heavy wailing pumping through his BOSE enhanced power armour, himself being sillouhetted by the burning of a fortress and slowly stamping his feet and doing this \m/ :) while pumping off bolt pistol rounds

 

when you do the biker army, i think i might have a design for your shoulder pads

Well it's fluffy for SW to use Bikes but not the whole army, the SW prefere to fight with their feet on the ground, weapons in hand. Tearing across the battlefield like madmen is for the Blood Claws and the Wolf Guard. If you want a feral feel with an all Bike army, just do White Scars.

actually, there are a few instances where a SW force would have mostly bikes, special missions mostly.

 

I can definitely see, in the new codex, the possibility of a single consolidated Blood Claws unit that can then be mounted on bikes as long as they number x models... It'd make any form of Blood Claw scoring, which would reduce enemy confusion and, let's face it, give the BC Bikers a nifty boost (bringing them in line with any other SM force.) Perhaps restrict taking them to 1 per HQ on bike (like Warbosses and Biker Nobs).

 

It'd be an interesting direction for GW to take them...

because im aiming for a space wolf themed army i think think it matters too much about how they work specificly

i see it more of an over view, SW like combat bikes get them there faster, the 13th company had wulfen, i want to

use wulfen as vangaurd veterans.

 

its a case of each to his own personaly i like the idea of the SW surrounding their prey and crushing them, thats why

i've taken kor'sarro because he lets my army outflank.

 

i've started to paint the army now so i shall upload them when they are done and then you guys can see the army as a whole

Yeah, vangaurd vets would make decent wulfen.... none of these units will quite have the 13nth co power, but I can see it giving the right effect overall..... Remember, a librarian with gate of infinity is almost a requirement, and a commander of course is.

I have a Space Wolf Biiker force myself. I am doing the Exact thing. Scarey.

 

I have a Command Squad tricked out and 2 more Bike Squads maxed. Getting the Attached Attack bikes next, and a LRC with Blood Claws and a Rune Priest, and Wolf Priest (Lib and Chap).

 

It's expencesive thou. A real point hog.

Well yes and... then at the same time most deffinitely... no. Vanilla SM Bikes are not best used just hurtling into CC like Wolf Guard or Blood Claw Bikers, their mobility and firepower are far more important, in CC they can hold their own but their effectiveness is limited and against dedicated CC Troops they'll bite it real fast, especially against anything with a Power Fist. If you want to do something CC oriented Vanilla Bikes are not the way to go IMO, they'll just get chewed up.

Eh... I don't think that would work well at all. The only SM unit that semi-accurately represents Wulfen would be the Blood Angels Death Company, Vanguard don't really do Wulfen justice at all I don't think.

True enough though I do find myself very bemused as to why you'd do Wolves like White Scars, they lack all the characterfull Wolfy units and wargear... but oh well.
