Weapon Question

Hello I have only recently(two days ago) acquiered the SW codex.

I have been going through the codex today and a small tidbit caught my eye.

There are * beside Assault Cannon, Melta weapons, Plasma weapons and Sniper rifle point me to look into the BBB for additional rules for these weapons.

If we use the "additional" rules from the BBB we could get rending for AC(maybe even Heavy 4 since that profile is shown in the BBB), rending and pinning for snipers, melta weapons that get additonal D6 for AP, plasma guns that get got.

On the other hand if we do not get that we have sniper rifles are useless, a glorified version of HB in the form of AC, Plasma weapons that do not explode in our faces and melta weapons which are the same no matter what range they are used from.

As far as I can see it, the problem comes from the fact weapons and special rules for weapons became separated in the 4th edition.

The FaQ/Erratas from both 4th and 5th edition do not address this problem so my questions to you fellow games is. How are you dealing with that.

I am really interested in finding out the solution as I intend to play C:SW for my DIY chapter.

Cheers

Hey Hrvat,

The summary page at the back of the codex is accepted to be an over view and overwritten by the new rules. Anything in the armory that is in italics references the space marine codex. For example this includes lightening claws plasma pistols etc etc. So you take these from the new SM codex. Anything that has *extra rules* by it refers to the rulebook and so you take them from the rule book.

The bottom line is that you use the weapon rules in the new space marine codex for anything that isn't wolf specific (e.g wolf pelt).

This also means that anything that refernecs a rule in the SM codex that no longer exists, no long works e.g fang of morkai.

I hope my explanation gives a clear reasoning of why we use the SM weapon list.

And welcome to the fang brother.

*Throws Hrvat an ale*

Long Fang

The hard fast rule is check the Armory, if it is in italics in the Codex Armory list then you take the profile and description from the Space Marine Codex

If anyone tries telling you that meant the 3rd Edition Space Marine Codex...firstly, restrain yourself from beating them about the head with the BRB (Hardcover), second ask them to point out the phrase that tells players to use the Codex(es) and/or Rulebook that was current as of the time the Space Wolf (or other appropriate material) was published.

Welcome to the Fang brother, ALWAYS check the FAQ (GW's and ours) before asking a question, odds are it's been asked and answered there.
