battle sisters paintscheme?

Recommended Posts

I used bone armor and red robes... and what i found out about black is that it looks like i didn't paint part of the model.

This is particularly the case with the hair color... which i use as my squad identifier... it was really hard to get black hair that didn't look like i just left it primed.

so i would recommend limiting the black detailing to very small sections... and not something as concentrated as the top of the head.

Black can be done very easily with a Charadon Granite highlight/drybrush. It takes the "void" look off the black and doesn't make it look like you haven't painted it :)

As for white - it looks very good but is a pain in the backside to get looking good. I'd suggest trying out a few methods of painting white to see which works best for you (if at all...) before deciding.

Why not try out the SoB painter here on the B&C and post up a few ideas?

Well, for my SoB I went with Boltgun Metal and a few details in Mithrial Silver for the armor and red robes.

White is a nice color, but as others have said it can be a real pain to get looking right; the only way I've found to really make it work is to use multiple coats of paint. It does look nice once it's done, but plenty of other colors can look just as nice with much less trouble.

Using tools like the SoB painted WarriorFist linked or the army painter in DoW Soulstorm if you have it can be handy for the early ideas phase, but ultimately you'll have to paint a few models and see how they turn out. I'm still miffed about my two squads of Sisters that seemed real nice with their gold paintjob in my head and on the various programs I used to guess at how they'd look, but ended up looking gaudy and ostentatious when I actually painted them.

I just recently painted a squad of Dominions realy easily: I took those sisters and spray painted them with Army Painters pure red primer (some of the sisters were already in black primer, some not. Then i painted robes with bone white (vallejo) and faces with Tallarn flesh (GW). I may paint weapons et all. with some other colour in the future and maybe dip them into quickshade, but right now they look realy nice.

Well for me i used a 4 to 1 Shining Gold and Tin Bitz mix to creat a sort of bronzy gold and highlight with Shining Gold. And a tabard of Scab Red.

Hair i use Space Puppy Grey highlighted with White.

Comes out really nice and i followed tht all over the army and tanks.

But as suggested i think experiment is best, paint 4 sisters different ways and see what you like.

I took 7 colour schemes before i was happy, guess im fussy :)

It is an actual GW paint scheme

here is the one I did using the army painter here on the B&C

some of the gold piping should be silver but I like the gold

from the lexancium

The Order of the Bloody Rose is one of the Orders Militant of the Adepta Sororitas, or the Sisters of Battle, founded in honour of Sister Mina. They are based on Ophelia VII within the Convent Sanctorum.1-p65 Their colours are primarily a bright blood red colour with black cloaks on the outside and pure white inside. The weapons are the same black as their cloaks.2-p19

from wikipedia

Saint Mina had a reputation for being fierce, mysterious, and deadly in battle. She was murdered by a blood cult, whose agents had attacked her while praying. Her body was found along with the shrine, covered in the blood and the corpses of twenty of her attackers. Her symbol, the red rose, represents her strong character and her final death. Thus, the Order of the Bloody Rose was created to honor her spirit and her martyrdom.[5]

So, it's fluffy to keep the red/black/white. Obviously there can be deviation from this but it's on a personal level correct?

What about hair color? I'm seing standardization there as well, but does there have to be?

I jsut did all mine black, because it's easy and looks mean :). However, had I more time, I'd give them all the normal shades of hair (no blue or purple or green in the Imperium!)

My scheme is like this.

sister.php?bpe=636363&bpj=636363&bp=636363&bpc=FFD500&hdt=636363&hdm=FFFFFF&hdl=636363&ey=1A00FF&er=636363&pi=8F5300&reb=FFD500&nk=636363&ch=636363&abs=636363&bt=FAFA8E&is=FFD500&sk=8F5300&ull=636363&lk=FFD500&lll=636363&lft=636363&url=636363&rk=FFD500&flk=FF0000&lrl=636363&rft=636363&slt=FFD500&sli=636363&fs=FF0000&srt=FFD500&sri=636363&iss=FFFFFF&slv=8F5300&ula=636363&lla=636363&lh=FFD500&ura=636363&rla=636363&rh=FFFFFF&ri=FFDD03&tr=FFD500&bg=000000&rb=B8B8B8&gr=B8B8B8&

Yes, only the right hand is gold.

Now that nearly no models are painted is another thing... And the 2 'things' going out from the fleur is white and the little band on the fleur is gold is another thing... Crappy army painter...

Thanks I'll try that in future!

After much experimentation the best method I have found is to:

1. prime them black

2. base coat of ice blue

3. Paint white over the top of the blue

This method needs the least amount of paint applied! I don't like to prime in white as it doesn't allow for the same brightness on the finished model

Not a bad idea there! For me, I hate painting - again - the same area. With the above scheme, I'd be painting over the blue and trying to avoid all the fidgets. Bump that! BUT, it does give the desired effect and that's undeniable.
When I get to where I am painting my Sisters their armor will be a champagne color with lite pink filigree on the armor. I want all the models to be standing on marble flooring with sakura flowers around the floor and perhaps falling from certain areas of their armor.
