battle sisters paintscheme?

Vallejo white is not bad stuff. I'll use a White primer, then paint a very light grey, then highlight with white.

I'm thinking of going with variable hair color (like in the real world). Or red hair. Red hair is hot.

I find that for white armor, the best thing to do is to basecoat the armor areas Astartes grey first, then go over with either skull white or the thinned down white foundation paint. This provides a nice pure white colour, that can be altered and adjusted through ink washes.

If you're going to do black armor, and you really want it to look good, I highly suggest starting with either white or some other bright basecoat and using inks to shade down. It automatically highlights just the right amount in just the right spots. As long as you keep the number of coats consistent then every model will be highlighted the same and you won't have to worry about missing some critical spot.

I wish I had time/ability to post pix of the techpriest I highlighted using this method. It turned out to be a technique I will use again and again. The only word of warning is once you go too far black there's no returning.

For my black armored beauties, it's all about diversity of color to help soften the black. Tan colored holsters, green frags, white and gold symbols, gold trim, silver bolters and bases painted green.

Melvin, which paints do you use for your colour scheme? I really like it and want to use it for my army.

Chaos Black, Red Gore, Skull White, Shining Gold, Boltgun Metal, Elf Flesh, Camo Green, Commando Khaki. On heavy weapons, I do the shoulders in Shadow Grey. I used a non-GW black spray paint to base them. The red is difficult to cover the black base, but I tried it with a white base and hated what it looked like. Multiple layers of red, white, and gold.

After I spray the tanks black, I do a very, VERY light drybrushing of Boltgun Metal to make it metallic black without becoming silver.

I'm not a very good painter. I don't do any shading, but the lines are crisp and make sense of the detail -- which is more than I can say for a lot of shaded and inked armies I've seen on the internet or local clubs. I'm not insulting the technique per se, but some people do it and call it "pro" even though it looks like a blob of different colors in the shape of a space marine.
