I always use the way I learnt from a good friend in 'Eavy Metal:

Chaos Black U/C.

Silver:

-Overbrush Boltgun Metal.

-Drybrush Chainmail.

-Veryvery watered down chaos black and asurmen blue wash.

-Drybrush Chainmail.

-Line highlight Mythril silver.

Gold:

-Basecoat Scorched Brown and Dwarf Bronze 50/50.

-Dwarf Bronze Shining Gold 50/50

-Shining Gold on very small sections.

-Mythril Silver on absoloute highlights.

The rest is basically the same as every other space marine.

Hope this helps!

I've just finished some Grey Knights this past week or so and while it's still fresh in my mind I thought I'd add the method I used to the pot:

Armour:

Basecoat Boltgun Metal

Wash Regal Blue into Recesses

'Bulk' Highlight Chainmail (cover most of the armour plates but leave some BG Metal and the Regal Blue depth.

Glaze Hawk Turquoise (as light/heavy as you like - lighter is better IMO)

Re-apply Chainmail where you feel necessary

Edge Highlight Mithril Silver

Gold:

Vallejo Bronze (Shining Gold)

Wash w/Dark Flesh

Highlight Vallejo Gold (Burnished Gold)

Wash (watered) w/Gryphonne Sepia

Edge Highlight w/Mithril Silver or Chainmail

I'd like to see them done as an NMM effect - but I feel they look better in metallic. Hope this helps OP

I have a great dislike for 'shiny marines', so I painted my a dirty, dark grey, as I think they would be if they were in the thick of it. Once I get my order and start knocking them out, I'll post a step-by-step, now that I've refined the process quite a bit through practice and screwing around.

Some early on examples of my metal terminators :

lol... i rarely undercaot my models... am i a heretic?? I just never have any luck with the GW primer, always ends up going on too thick or is stupidly watery and flood all the details... so i say myself time paintstripping stuff and just paint the model ;)

I used to paint mine using a basecoat mix of chainmail and blue (wasn't a GW blue but i would guess something like mordian blue or possibly regal) and then just added mithril silver for each highlight... if i wanted the metal to look more blue i just added a thinned down blue ink into the very recesses of the armour....

Sounds like you're not using it right. Shake for at least 1 minute, 5 is best. Then hold 12" away from models and spray in one continuous motion back and forth. Wait until dry, rotate models and repeat. Dead easy :) Then any areas not undercoat in the nooks and crannies, just paint in with watered down black or white paint. Your prooblem sounds like you arent shaking it enough.

the trick is to get the armour to have a faint blueish tint, but not so much in the crevases. and you can use whatever of the silvery metals you want depending on how dark you want em, i prefer chainmail with asurman blue tint, then badam black in the crevases if you hit em with the mithrill, plus it cant hurt to badab black the crevaces to add life to it.

Now I don't play gray knight nor have I painted any but my

Custom chapter I am currently working on uses largly unpainted

Armour, only their chest and right arm are differant being black.

However my meathod for painting unpainted armour is:

1) Drybrush with tinbits.

2) Drybrush with boltgun metal

3) Drybrush with Mithril Silver

4) Wash with Badab Black.

Skip down to post #7 where I show my tutorial with pics. I have streamlines the process after a few models:

Changes:

Used airbrush to basecoat overtop of chaos black primer with boltgun metal

Use Normal Dry brush with mithril instead of tank brush

Use smaller drybrush again for larger curved surfaces such as shins

Essential the results after 9 hours of work

nicely done!!

there are a ton of youtube vids on painting them that are quite good, I have watched a LOT.

also I will have a decal sheet made here soon, and posted in OI, that will have at least 25 heraldry transfers for the shoulder shields!
