Hammer
Yesterday I played my first two games with the wolves (and 5th edition too). I started building a SW army some 9 years ago, but due to my friend also building SW's I abandoned the project so that we both wouldn't be playing with the same army... Along came lotsa other armies over the years; Black Templars, Orks, Dark eldar, Chaos marines, Hrud (eldar list), Blood Pact (LatD)... Whole lotta models that weren't the Space Wolves in fact. But late last year I decided to return to the fold and started working on a SW army. I finally got the models built (not painted, though) and played two test games with friends. We are all going to a local tournament (held in 2 weeks from now) and wanted to test our lists. My first game was against an Emperor's Children list. Bad deployment and a bit timidity in my gaming made me to lose that game (EC got one quarter to my none). I realised I needed to be a lot more aggressive with the wolves! I just didn't have enough firepower to outshoot something like the EC. Second game was against Migsulas TWAR (big robots using tyranid rules, you might have seen them at Dakka if you ever visit that site). A tie! No quarters to anyone. Since I have just 2 troop choises, I couldn't really contest the quarters, so I just drove in and unleashed my wolves on the big guy. Lost every infantry figure, but took down many carnifexes while at it. Broke the synapse creatures so that his troop choises couldn't hold quarters either. I have to say that even if I lost and tied the games, using the wolves were fun! There's no going back now. I'm a wolf player. For Russ, for the wolftime! Now I have 2 weeks to paint my army for the tournament. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164562-my-first-games-with-the-wolves/ Share on other sites
Dark Bjoern
Welcome to the Fang, Whelp. Yes, with SW you need (and you could) play more aggesive then with any other SM army. But SW are not only a CC army. With my basic 1500 points list i had outgunned the EC army of a friend. By the time you will learn that SW are very versatile. Good luck with your painting challange. How many points you´ll try to paint in this two weeks? Hammer
The tournament is 1750 points. Since I needed to build the army from scratch in short time, I built a very small list; 31 models. 2 of those models are Land raiders, though! :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164562-my-first-games-with-the-wolves/#findComment-1934964 Share on other sites

Grimfoe
Can I ask, why the Rune Priest? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164562-my-first-games-with-the-wolves/#findComment-1935097 Share on other sites
Hammer
Because I wanted to build a rune priest. My lists usually come together as units I want to model instead of what is the best stuff in games. Grimfoe
That's probably the best reason I've heard. I tend to play that way as well. I want to use my favorite units and then find a way to win. Typically, I don't believe a commander is able to choose all of his troops. But the best can find a way to win with what he is provided. (this is probably why I'm currently trying to put together a competitive list centered around my 700 point unit of Terminators in a LRR ;) ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164562-my-first-games-with-the-wolves/#findComment-1935125 Share on other sites
