youthminister40k
The title says most of it. What you see is the AoBR Dreadnaught, captain, Tactical, and Terminator squads. In addition is another tactical squad, two converted Sergeants with Powerfists, a throwback Terminator chaplain, and in a separate picture, a Librarian i just purchased. Has anyone seen this guy? I haven't seen him painted anywhere else. Perhaps he's just an older fella? Also there is a tiered hill I'm going to work on today. Now begins the evening! http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt52/youthminister40k/SANY1736.jpg http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt52/youthminister40k/SANY1740.jpg http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt52/youthminister40k/SANY1744.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164623-an-afternoon-of-the-hobby/ Share on other sites

Rhaja
nice work Youthminister, I'd like to know how u made that first piece of terrain. Also I'll have to post an old libby model I got the other day off of my brothers friend, old model I don't see much of. youthminister40k
The first piece is three cuts of the cheap white Styrofoam. I generally don't like using it because you can see the "bubbles," but I've covered the sides with DryDex, which is a form of drywall spackling. It's pretty cheap and comes in small containers. They're glued together and on top of a 1/4 inch (or close to .5 a cm) think piece of pressed wood, also pretty cheap. I'll add some sand in spots for texture and then brush the whole thing black (NEVER SPRAY PAINT STYROFOAM! Unless you want the melting that will occur). Then I'll add scenery grass to it. That you can buy in BIG bottles at a hobby store that does trains and other scenes. It's cheaper than what GW has. At any rate, that's the process I go through, hopefully I'll be finished by tonight. Manserus
When I do terrain out of foam...I usually use water base spray paint! If you use normal spray paint for basecoating....spray it on a piece of paper of wood and use a large brush to paint your foam! I have 4 cans of water base spray paint and it works perfectly and it's pretty fast!: I use: - 1 black - 1 green - 1 grey - 1 brown You can buy those in a home depot or something like that! youthminister40k
When I do terrain out of foam...I usually use water base spray paint! Thanks Manserus, I'll look into that! Here's progress so far. On the hill I've added some sand in spots: http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt52/youthminister40k/SANY1752.jpg http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt52/youthminister40k/SANY1753.jpg And added a black base coat. Careful with watered down paint and glued on sand. If you are too rough with it you'll upset the sand and start moving it around. http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt52/youthminister40k/SANY1766.jpg This pic looks a little sad but I've already touched it up with a second coat. And the marines: Basically I've given each base a sand texture by painting on watered down white glue and sticking them into a small container of sand. Then I attached some masking tape sticky side up on a shoe box top and lined them up to be undercoated. This way nobody blows away in gale force winds or when you spray paint them. http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt52/youthminister40k/SANY1754.jpg And now I've got some undercoated marines ready to paint: http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt52/youthminister40k/SANY1755.jpg But I've been at this for a long time. I need some supper! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164623-an-afternoon-of-the-hobby/#findComment-1936030 Share on other sites

Pig Of Sparta
Ah, a 'classic' libby :P. If I may though, I'd suggest replacing the bolt pistol arm with one from the current range. As good as they looked back in the day, in my opinion the old marine arms don't hold a candle to the new ones. (Rogue Trader ones are the exception). Look forward to seeing what you do with him. By the way, what chapter are you painting your marines as? youthminister40k
Planning on Crimson Fists, I like the story of a rebuilding chapter. I've looked around on e-bay for the librarian arm with the book, but no luck there and GW website has let me down as well. The bolt pistol will appease me for now. I'm currently staring down an $8 Terminator assault cannon on e-bay and can't make up my mind. This one makes the hill in my opinion. http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt52/youthminister40k/ATT00058.jpg Order of highlighting http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt52/youthminister40k/ATT00061.jpg After a quick test, the whole thing is cover in watered down white glue. http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt52/youthminister40k/ATT00046.jpg My wife helping out.
