Eripu
Hello B&C, Picking up The Ultramarines Omnibus as reading material for a spring break trip, I was reminded how much I enjoyed painting and playing 40k, and decided to get back into it. 5 years ago I stopped playing as I just got to be too busy and didn't have the time to continue playing. At the time I had a decent size (and fully painted) Tau army as well as a small CSM force (which I was in the process of building and painting when I quit), both of which have disappeared into the warp... So, I'm starting over from scratch. The Night Lords fluff, color scheme, and combat style always appealed to me, so I chose them as my first (hopefully of a few) army. My idea for the army is to play a pure NL strike force, no cult marines, little HS, and lots and lots of units capable of moving fast. I don't have the codex yet (its in the mail...) but atm I'm thinking something like this (hopefully i can cram it into 1000pts): Lord, jetpack, pair of LC 2x10 CSM in Rhino's, (1 squad with 2x flamers and a asp champ with pw, the other with 2x melta and a champ with pfist) Big-ish squad of Raptors with 2x flamer and asp champ with claws or a pw Small-ish squad of raptors with 2x melta I don't really care to be uber-competitive, and I like the fluffyness behind that list (and it is the way I want to make my army, which is all that really matters...). So in that vein I bought the new rulebook (haven't played since 3rd ed O.o ) codex and the csm battleforce (which I got a REALLY good deal on, so the zerks and possessed will be used for bits). I was too impatient to wait for them to arrive though, so I went to my local store and picked up a ton of paint (my old paints are also lost in the warp...), and a raptor with an assault weapon, which I figured was a pretty safe buy given the list I want to run. He is relatively complete, obviously missing the jet pack and a weapon, as well as painting the base, but his primary purpose was as a color test model and I think he turned out alright. I'm still a bit rusty at the whole painting thing... The pictures aren't all that great (they got a bit grainy, not sure why...), and I see a few mistakes after looking at the pictures, so they will be corrected. They look considerably better from a few feet away ;) Oh well... C&C welcome and appreciated :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164644-eripus-night-lords-wip-thread/ Share on other sites

Eripu
When is a great time to start a new army? Well, less than a week before Call of Chaos III begins of course! I signed up for the Call with a pledge of 3 items, taking the optional route of not naming what they are because I'm not sure what I will have available model/money/parts wise over the next three months. Regardless, one of the three items will be my first CSM squad, which is a 10 strong squad with CCW, 2 flamers and an Asp. Champ with pw. The Asp. Champ will be converted in some fashion, though I haven't decided how yet. For the other 2 items I'm considering: A heavily converted lord, a fairly converted Rhino, a 5 strong Raptor squad, or another 10 strong CSM squad. Whether I can do the conversions or not really depends on my wallet, because I don't have much in the way of bits to work with, as all of my old bits are very much MIA. What I am *hoping* to do is the squad/rhino/lord, just to mix it up so that I don't get bored, but we'll have to see... And so, as a starting point for my Call of Chaos, this is the current status of my army: 1 Rhino on Sprues 5 CSM on Sprues And last but not least, the 5 CSM below (in various stages of painting completeness, and I do realize this is a bit of an early start, but I think they have far enough to go that they can still count for Call of Chaos, as I have a long way to go on chest/torso/head, and the backpacks and arms/shoulder pads are still on the sprues, and if you want to get really technical a 5 man CSM squad counts as an item, so I guess these guys are a Call of Chaos bonus!): And once again we get to see how terrible my picture taking abilities are. I decided not to try to alter this picture at all, as I thought my doing so negatively affected the Raptor pic, so I apologize on how dark it is and the fact that it is a bit out of focus, I'm going to try to keep improving... About the painting: I feel like these guys are looking considerably better than the raptor, which I didn't really take my time on just to get a color test model done. I think I'll probably strip the raptor and paint him up again once I get him a squad to join... So, C&C welcome and appreciated, and I hope you all like them. Chaos Lord Shamrockius
I like them. I'm doing some Night Lords at the moment and would be chuffed if they end up this good. I especially like the skull style face on the Raptor. I think the best bit of your posts are the fact that it's a 50-50 split on your own criticism in your painting and photography abilities... when both are better than mine! Keep working on both and you'll get there by the time both squads are done but you're doing fine on the painting at least. Brother Nihm
Your photography is fine, the lack of focus doesn't hurt much - it still gets the point across. Just get better lighting and you're set. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164644-eripus-night-lords-wip-thread/#findComment-1955399 Share on other sites
