scouts with a 2+ invulnerable?

sorry if this is elsewhere,

but am i reading this right, if i take a techmarine of any kind and bolster defences so a 4+ cover becomes a 3+ cover then place a unit of scouts with camo cloaks in that cover they have a 2+ cover save?

if i am thats a very sneaky and evil tactic.

This is completely legal, but has been around waaaaaay longer than the new Marine codex (look at Eldar Pathfinders - they get +2 to their Cover saves), and even with the new 'dex, it's been around since the first week in my gaming group.

EDIT: Why does the title say 2+ Invulnerable, though?

I would assume the OP put this as a cover save is basically an invulnerable save

On another note, my regular opponent uses this trick in almost every game. Deep striking behind the cover, flamers etc all counter it well.

Which is waaaay wrong. Cover saves and Invulnerable saves are two completely different things. No comparison should be attempted.

I would have to disagree with you on some levels here. A cover save can defend against anything an invulnerable save can, as long as the cover is there of course. It's also an additional save, or instead of, so its the same as invulnerable save though. You said no comparison should be attempted, but i couldnt resist :P

But before this gets to off topic, as I stated earlier this is legal and can be nasty :D

Totally correct, snipers can camp with relative safety of a 2+. And yes Cover saves are similar to invuln, they can both negate things that even armor doesn't have a prayer of stopping. Invul just has less things that negate it than a cover save does, though lately with things like the deamon dex even invul is seeing a reduction in its relative protective power.

Nope, the cover save will not be of any help against flame thrower weapons, castellan missiles, dragonfire bolts and various other things, while the invulnerable save could still be taken against those. An invulnerable save would be ignored by a psy cannon, where the cover save would help. Invulnerable saves usually don't go away once combat starts either.

Incinerator ignores cover and invul, plus it's AP4 :) heh, Eldar hate that weapon.
