JEFF4i
Not quite great enough but...4th place out of 22! It was a 3 match set up with secret objectives, everything worth its own point values, etc. Match #1: Hold and Capture, or whatever the name of the one where you have one and they have one, I forget, I'm tired, gimme a break, lol. My secret objective was to kill 50% or more of their vehicles. My opponent: Sisters of Battle! My list: HQ: VenDred Extra Armour Heavy Flamer Assault Cannon Troops: Grey Hunters x 8 Melta Power Weapon Blood Claws x 10 Power Fist Power Weapon I'm pretty sure that's my list, not 100% but its pretty darn close. His list: HQ: Cannonness with... Troops: 8 (I think) Sisters, whatever the name of their main troop is Another squad, same payload Inquisitorial Stormtroopers x6, Grenade Launchers x 2 Vehicles: Immolator Exorcist Deployment=Spearhead Long story short, and since my turn summary isn't the best...I dropped the immolator and he just couldn't seem to get through my VenDred, sent lots of shots but nothing got through. VenDred took out the entire Cannonness/Sister squad, which was pretty cool. Grey Hunters easily held their objective, while blood claws and VenDred cleaned off theirs without enough time to take it, since we only finished through turn five. That's all it took though, considering my opponent is a pretty hard vet, I was quite pleased with the win. MATCH 2: CAPTURE AND CONTROL (again, yuck) 5 Objectives Secret Objective: Kill any unit in melee combat. Kinda easy for us Wolves, so I was happy to see that. My list: Same His List: Space Marines HQ: Chapter Master with Power Fist Troops: 5 Strong Tac Squad x 2 Elite: VenDred of his own This one was funny, another spearhead deployment. I placed my two near some terrain as did he. Again, I left the Grey Hunters back. Why? Rapid Fire. Melta. And they get 2 attacks on the charge or counter-charge, made sense. Again, took my Claws and Dred ahead. I dropped both of his Tac Squads, took 8 Blood Claws to drop 5 marines though, bad rolls His Orbital Bomb. missed by quite a bit Grey Hunters, again, didn't even get one shot fired off. My VenDred took down one of the Tac Squads by himself, and nearly the Chapter Master. The entire match, from turn 2, they were engaged. His power fist just couldn't seem to roll through my armor, and my DCCW couldn't seem to get past his Invuln save, too bad too. Did well enough though, killing about 2/3 of his points and keeping the Master engaged. By the end he couldn't have any objectives, as the only unit he was left with was his Master (at one point he assaulted my VenDred with his own, which I blew up, hehe). Another win, of course got my Special Objective. Match 3: CAPTURE AND CONTROL (QQ) 3 Objectives. Special Objective: Pulled kill 1 unit in melee again, lucky me. My List: Same His List: HQ: Warboss on a bike with Power Claw Troops: Shoota Boys, a bunch Ard Boyz...a bunch I won the roll to place and had everything going for me against this Ork player. I lost though. Why? We had a special rule for fun where you roll a d6 at the beginning of the turn, which was made to show Khorne's influence over the battlefields. What did it mean? Roll a 1, you essentially assault eachother, and attack yourself accordingly. Roll a 6, you get fleet foot to attack them sooner. In turn 1 my blood claws would have easily hold an objective except for one thing...they rolled a 1. 2 Power Weapons when attacking yourself, when you also took bolt pistols for the improved attacks...well...I lost 4 out of the gate. Two turns later it happens again and I lose another 2. *sigh* In other words, this squad died taking out his Orkz. My VenDred did quite well, destroying his Warboss by laying into him with the AC and then assaulting, flamer didn't do anything suprisingly. He took out a few 'Ard Boyz too, but by the end of the game my Claws were gone, two objectives contested, and one held by him. The special rule killed me, and is most likely the sole reason for my loss since he didn't ever attack himself, lucky rolls. I enjoyed the Special Rule and added some flavor, but was vastly frustrating for me since I was on a run for complete win. After Gamesmanship, Painting, Special Objectives, and Wins were all tallied, I ended up in 4th. 2-1-0 W/L/D With all 3 Special Objectives completed. My Thoughts: Honestly, for my first tournament with Wolves, in a point selection that doesn't cater to Wolves, I'm really pleased with this result. Didn't win anything, since only 1-3 got, but it was for a food drive anyway so the purpose of being there would have been great enough even if I placed last. VenDred is worth its weight in gold in a 500 point game, especially since I had to have 1 HQ and 2 Troops. Grey Mage
Good job man, glad we didnt stear you to far wrong ;). Seriously, everyone says we have problems at low point values, but frankly I think people just need to be a little more creative.... 1850 is where I always have problems. muzzyman1981
Yeah I kept hearing the same thing which is why I was worried about my league starting at 500pts but so far I have pretty much wiped the table, especially with my Venerable Dreadnought, I really have trouble at 1850+ as Grey Mage said.....even then its more my lack of experience more than my Wolves (can you say win against 2 Monoliths, lack of any real hitting power =P) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/165155-500-point-tournament-recap/#findComment-1943612 Share on other sites
JEFF4i
See, every match I've done with Wolves at 1850+ I do better, far better. Low points have always been tricky for me, but I'm pretty pleased with it. Again, if it wasn't for that special rule in the last game, I could've won with a couple rolls.
