Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus display for Adepticon

Recommended Posts

Saturday was the team tourney day and here’s the final pics from the Mournival team we put together this year. Note that it’s not all my original work. Each player contributed their own 1,000 pts & unique objective markers to the mix.

As an FYI, here’s the corresponding work-in-progress thread.

For those interested, there’s some additional commentary in my blog.

All comments welcome. Cheers, -OMG

Got more and bigger pics of those land speeders? Wow...

I need to take some but I’d be more than happy to do so. That was my intention after recovering from the weekend. I also want to add a pic of the Cpt. Eidolon (or was it Saul Tarvits?) model that was used as an objective marker. I never thought I’d enjoy painting a purple & magenta marine before but now that I’ve crossed that line I admit to really liking it.

Thanks for the comments gents. -OMG

You're going to have to get how everyone made their commanders, i'm just "wowed" by them!

The Horus Model looks a tad small from that position, maybe a 'role-call' of the commanders, so we can see what they all look like together, i'm worried that Horus isn't big enough (I really can't imagine Horus thrying to squeeze into a Termie suit <_< )

Still, they all look very, very good, OMG! My congrats and condolences!

You've motivated me to get working on a 'Display Army' with a friend of mine, we're both fans of the DA's, so obviously... hehe

Thanks

Arenis

(EDIT) You're also going to have to get a picture of a single 10-man Tactical squad from each army, would be rather cool to see you they've been modelled/painted, as I can see the far-left Luna Wolves look rather blue...

I could try to get some commentary from the other team members but otherwise I can only speak for my own. If you go back in my B&C blog, you can see at least one WIP shot and some of the thought that went into it.

In the end, I had to reconcile Torgaddon, who gets a very minimal treatment in the novels, to the WYSIWYG requirements of Pedro Kantor. So, though the books never said that Torgaddon fought with a power fist and, “Dorn’s Arrow” like bolter, he did for our purposes here.

So the model is based on (the new) Sicarius’ torso. The head is from the Dark Angels upgrade sprues. His right hand has what became dubbed as the, “pepper box bolter” or a stormbolter w/four barrels. The powerfist hand w/helmet came from the Masters of the Chapter and that’s it. More of just a kit bash than a conversion.

Still, worked for me. I know that there are better & WIP pics of the Horus model. Actually, it’s at least 60% greestuff. I’ll see if I can’t get them to start a thread on it.

Cheers, -OMG

The marines on the left of the display are done in the, Son’s of Horus scheme while the other as Luna Wolves. We wanted to show the separation of the Mounival members that stayed loyal to the Emperor vs. those who fell. You can see that same theme carried through in the banners on the embarkation desk display as well.

Brilliant work as usuall OMG, you really pinned this lot to the artwork that they are based off. You seem to be able to churn out the armies when you need to so i cant wait to see what takes your fancy next! Something purple maybe? ;)

S.O.N.

Nice! I'd like to see how they worked on Horus, and I'm sure others would as well... We'd all like to see if they did the Warmaster justice...

I just realised that after closer inspection of the banners, so unobservant of me... heh

still, cheers for the info

Oh!

Woa, I did NOT know (even though I read Horus Rising) that the Sons of Horus and the Luna Wolves coexisted as entities. Oh wait, yes I did. That`s weird ... Sons of Horus = Horus Company = first company of the Luna Wolves?

wasn't the Sons of Horus colour scheme greyish green?

I don’t have the books in front of me but I believe the color was described as sea green or turquoise, IIRC. Perhaps the pics don’t do the actual models justice but they are a rather odd shade of green in person. I’ll check the text at the next opportunity.

@Emperor's Instrument – And thank you again sir.

I didn’t mean to mislead you with that answer. I do believe the entire legion changed over to being called the Sons of Hours at the same time. We used that transition to differentiate those companies that stayed loyal to the emperor (2nd & 10th) from those that fell to Chaos and allied with the Warmaster (1st & 5th).

The color choices were made on purpose with that transition in mind. If you look at the largest banner at the top of the display, that about says it all per that aspect of the theme.

Thanks again, -OMG

Here are some additional & more isolated pics of the newer models in the display. Namely, the Emperor’s Children objective marker & the landspeeder conversions.

I think this wound up be Capt. Eidolon with, “temptress.”

I’ll post in my blog here in a bit with more details.
